It's not that they are dancing well. Only Tamils ( or maybe south indians) will get it. It is a type of dance from tamil culture nothing flashy but goes with the beats and rhythm. Back then people used to dance to drums, Dance and plays were a big part of tamils lives like rap and beat boxing was for african americans. In this video you can see people dancing in someone's funeral. Not gonna say it doesn't look goofy but that is the explanation for that.
