    I had a butterkoferi in a 90 gal tank with other cichlids like oscars, jack dempseys, red devil's etc. I woke up one morning to see the buttercup have all the other fish in the corner of the tank. He wouldnt let any of them out. Its a very aggressive fish.

    We owned 2 pet stores in San Diego. I’ve seen hundreds of species of freshwater fish. This specimen has to take the title of King Bastard! Lol. Seriously, what an aggressor!

    Man, If I had an aggressive guy like that id be to chicken shit to put my hand in the tank. Occasionally when I'm doing maintenance on the tank my Bettas will give me a nip and that alone startles me hehe. :P

    I bought a baby Butterkoferi many years ago . He was slightly bigger than a quarter . I put him in a 30 gal. tank with an adult Firemouth , Jewel cichlid and oscar. Within
    24 hrs. all three cichlids were dead and only Buttercup (,as I named him) was left.From then on he had the tank to himself . "THE END"

    I’ve been wanting a few different fish that you just can’t readily get in Vegas!!! This is one of them!!! Illegal to sell here as juveniles and sometimes you can find them in Asian Aquarium shops as adults people bring them in.. but like You i love raising my fish from babies I also get attached to them very much

    Great looking fish! A popular old school mainstay in the fishkeeping hobby, and it's easy to see why. Let me tell you though, they don't call them Hornet cichlids just because they have hornet-like stripes. These fish can potentially pack some real attitude, so if you like it and want the experience of owning one or several? Prepare yourself.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 лет назад +1

      Lol, I definitely felt some of that attitude! The most interesting part is that this fish is very moody, at times I can clean the tank with no problems...and then the next time it attacks me when ever I stick my hand in the tank! Sometimes it can be annoying...but overall its awesome!

    I bought a 2" Zebra Tilapia. The first 2 days i put him in my 125g for the first time, it'd get bullied by another cichlid of similar size. Always getting chased around. But that only lasted 2 days!

    Nice buttikoferi . I have a pair of buttikoferi of about 8 inches and they are scared a little taken aback if I go near tank . Is that normal . Also with them have jaguar of about 9 inches who all the time messes with them

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  5 лет назад

      It depends on how long you've had them. At that size they should be bold, but if you've had them for a month or less than that could be normal they could still be getting used to your tank
