Hey Lex, longtime fan and not a Ukrainian bot, beep boop. Brother, please stop this. This is a bad take and it was a bad interview. You made demands of a world leader to say nice things about a man who is actively murdering his people and are now blaming him for that. That is naivety and I know you hate hearing that, but it's true. If you see this comment, take a minute to think, maybe those personal friends whom you talked to are an echo chamber that you use to conceal your ego. Zelensky campaigned on a platform of immediate peace with Russia in 2019. However, he admitted to not fully implementing the Minsk II agreement, using it primarily for prisoner exchanges in his own benefit.
He ACKNOWLEDGED refusing to implement the 2015 Minsk_*TWO* deal, describing it as a path "toward the abyss".

To quote the late and great Winston Churchill when proposed with the option to negotiate peace with Adolf Hitler: "You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth"
I believe that today Vladimir Putin is that tiger, and his mouth is desperately trying to bite off Ukraine's head.

    • @craigrussell3062
      @craigrussell3062 12 часов назад

I think there are two strains of thought in his head. Clearly he thinks of Ukraine as needing to belong to the Russian Federation, and he wants it. But the US is also the tiger with Putin's head in our (I'm American) mouth. The historic purpose of NATO was to defend the West against the threat of the Soviet Union. But since the fall of the Soviet Union, which initially led to friendship and cooperation between the US and Russia, NATO has expanded ever closer to Russia's border. From Putin's perspective, what "NATO" means is places where the US can put nuclear weapon launchers that can hit him faster than he can hit the US back. In 2014, Putin saw Ukraine's pro-Russian leader thrown out in a US-supported coup that replaced him with a pro-US ruler. Imagine if China had butted in on Jan 6, 2020 to support the pro-Trump rioters who wanted to put Trump in office instead of Biden: that's what the US did to the Ukraine in 2014. Putin is worried that the US will bring Ukraine so completely under their orbit, they can install permanent military bases and weapon launchers there.
I'm not saying Putin's not an authoritarian with visions of empire. But so are we. And Putin's moves can be explained logically as strategically correct responses to our moves. He's been seizing Ukraine piece by piece since 2014, when he annexed the Crimean peninsula, but those pieces he's taking are literally buffer zones between Russia and Ukranian forces who are now literally firing US-supplied weapons into Russia. And if you think it's a bad idea to negotiate with Russia because she's a tiger with Ukraine's head in her mouth, that has to be counterbalanced against the reality that this Russia/Ukraine war has killed hundreds of thousands of people on both sides while accomplishing nothing for nobody except the shareholders in US and Russian weapons manufacturing companies. There are ways America can be a force towards creating peace in the region, but what you're advocating is the opposite.

@ yea. This is all well and good in your fantasyland, but the war still receives 63% support amongst Ukrainians and zelenskyy still has 69% approval rating amongst Ukrainians. As it stands now, Zelenskyy (should he choose to run again) stands a good chance in upcoming elections assuming he can provide a good plan for reconstruction. However, he’ll likely have very popular figures to run against.
He doesn’t want to stop the war because Putin has showed in the past that he uses ceasefires to rearm and fortify his position.
Zelenskyy has also showed multiple times that he was willing to negotiate a ceasefire, even floating the idea of temporarily ceding land in the Donbas. Despite finding mass graves of executed Ukrainian civilians in recaptured cities.
There are plenty of reasons to not negotiate with Putin. The man is a cold blooded killer trying to rebuild the borders of the USSR and he will come back for the rest if possible. This video has crystallised my feelings on this: I don't believe you are a Russian Spy, or a Russian Shill etc.
What I do believe is that you are listening to the wrong people, and your view on the war in Ukraine is subjectively wrong. Your expectations of Zelensky show a huge naivety and lack of empathy.
I think you hoped this interview would be a momentous point in history that people could point to in the "start of peace talks" so that you could have a badge for your lapel, and you are angry that Zelensky did not see it as such. Instead, he used it for the platform that it really is: a podcast, with a podcast host. Not a platform for international peace talks or world relations.
Reflect on this and reflect on the people you surround yourself with. But most importantly: take the (clearly needed) hit to your ego, accept the criticism and hold your hands up to say you were wrong.
And please reflect on your feelings on the war in Ukraine. You are currently on the wrong side of history.

If they were able to fight then, they could have prevented millions of civilian deaths, stopped 100 years of tyranny and been a flourishing first world nation today.
The idea that we should pursue peace and that it's a matter of 'seeing Putins view too' is utterly ridiculous in the context of a tyrant who wants as much power and control as possible.
Now brave Ukrainian fighters battle against evil on the world's front lines - to build a better world.

This appears to be a spectacularly distorted reading of the situation on so many levels. I truly believe that Lex may have the best of intentions. However, perhaps he could revert to studying this situation and begin from the absolute fundamentals of it.
Be cautious, detailed and balanced. take careful note of Putin's words, his statements and perhaps most importantly, his actions. There are many aspects to this situation which must be understood, but fundamentally it is ones actions that define reality, therefore certain elements must be understood and accept. For example, who exactly instigate the war. Who exactly instructed their military forces to use lethal power and illegally invade another sovereign, and by this point, democratic nation. Who broke their commitment to the Budapest Memorandum. Who has in doing so tragically sent hundreds of thousands of their countrymen to their early graves. Who was the leader that instructed their military to rain terror upon often entirely defenceless innocent citizens killing and maiming thousands. Who is documented to of personally orchestrated the illegal mass forced deportation of innocent children, resulting in this same person being wanted by the ICC. Who is the leader of a country recently found by UN committee to have engaged in systemic tortured, rape and killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war and private citizens. Who has tanked their nations economy and limited their people futures. Who has created an almost vassal state of a once great and promising nation, and simultaneously made their nation dependent upon China, North Korea and Iran.
You speak of the importance and gavity of words, the name calling, cude language and the general behaviour ill befitting of a national leader. And yet, it's Putin who consistently, and from the outside of the invasion, accused the Ukrainian leadership of being unworthy drug addicted nazi fascists, and worse. The same man who started the war yet refuses to alow his own people to refferrer to it as such. Who oppresses any and all opposition to his ambitions. Who regularly speaks of the use of nuclear weapons against others.
Reverting to first principles, who has been the aggressor, and who has acted only in defence.
Finally we should consider Mr Putin's attempts at reading history, and his interpretation of it being used to rationalise his illegal actions.
He speaks of Nato being a threat yet it's purpose is fundamentally defensive. The only reason for its recent expansion is entirely as a direct rusult of Putin's stated ambitions and the recent actions of his forces invading the sovereign nation of Ukraine.
Ultimately, history will gain a perspective upon this entire episode and I would suggest that Putin, will likely be found to be on the wrong side of history. A failed aggressor and a figure of national shame. In the context of this, I question Lex for repeatedly asking someone to just accept and forgive Putin's actions, it is not a subtle nudge or simple innocent child like suggestion. We all must all act upon what we consider to be correct, however, under these circumstances the weight of evidence casts a dark shadow over certain individuals history, forgiveness and understanding maybe available to some, but I would suggest not all.
Ultimately this is a truly tragic situation which will produce nothing more than loss, wasted and damaged lives, hatred, and deep shame. Whilst all should support an end to this situation from a human perspective, the terms of how this ends are important globally to avoid potential repeated cycles of violence hatred and loss. Aggressors need to be acknowledged and their misguided ambitions permanently and entirely curtailed. Whilst words are important, it's actions that define reality.

Claiming 'online attacks' and 'suspicious origins' undermines genuine feedback from people who wanted deeper questions or more balance in the conversation. It’s great that you prioritize preparation, but the lack of critical follow-up on key topics, like peace negotiations or Zelenskyy’s stance on potential compromises, left some viewers feeling the discussion was too one-sided. You have a unique platform-please consider engaging with these critiques constructively in future interviews.

Two questions, Lex, which I am sure you will never see, or have time to answer (I understand)
    1. It is my impression that most of the world's leading experts strongly disagree with you about the chance for lasting peace with Vladimir Putn's Russia. The prevailing opinion I absorb is that Russia might take a ceasefire opportunity to rebuild strength and then attack again in a few years, at best. It does seem like this is the underlying pattern and strategy for Russia re: Georgia, Ukraine, and other invasions. What makes you think differently?
    2. Do you honestly believe Putin wants peace with Ukraine? I think he is on record as saying that Ukraine is a fake nation, Putin's actions are consistent with a desire to rebuild the Soviet Union as closely as he can, and he seems extremely out of touch with reality. History would seem to indicate the only chance for peace with brutal dictators of Putin's ilk is to force them to submit with war.

As a Russian, I don't know if he is corrupt or an idiot. The Jew Zelensky is more Russian than the Jew Friedman because every Soviet person knows the phrase from World War II, "Russians don't surrender." Even knowing that he could be killed, Zelensky will not lick Putin's boots for the sake of peace. We in Eastern Europe have our own atmosphere; we can live under totalitarian rule but not respect it, maintaining inner freedom and self-respect, and we will never surrender to the enemy. Zelensky built his career mocking the authorities; he has never respected power and position, which is in the blood of many free thinkers. Friedman, Tucker, and others are just making careers by interviewing "great leaders." The West is rotten; real people are here, like Zelensky and Navalny, who are ready to defend their truth to the end. People in the USA will either cleanse the country of this crap that is currently in power and controls the media, or it will end up like Russia.
