There is a interesting history about the music "Estrada da Vida" from Milionário e José Rico, they did a movie based in the music about 1981 and it did a big sucess in China! They was invited by the government of China about 1986 and was received at the airport by dozen of impersionator chinese duos...

If you were Brazilian you wouldn't feel like that haha this genre has always, aaaalways the same lyrics and chords, there are like 50 other duos doing exactly the same thing. Think of cheesy American country x10.

To my (uninitiated) ears, it sounds considerably less cheesy than American country, though (disclaimer), I like cheesy American country to a certain extent--the same set of tunes and chord progressions cycled over and over again, but often some of the cleverest lyrics of any genre anywhere, full of irony and word play. Are you saying this seemingly very pleasant music (especially if I compare it to the 'top 10' here in Italy, where you rarely see real guitars, let alone harmonicas, at all anymore) has no redeeming value?
@@arjay9745 it does! In some level. The musicians can do what they're supposed to. What bothers me and many of my fellowmen is that it has come to the point where this genre, being extremely commercial while really not that hard to produce, has basically overshadowed everything else that the Brazilian musical scene has to offer - look for "como nossos pais", "brasil pandeiro" or "sapato velho" and you might see my point. But yeah, I reckon it could go worse.

I don't know if you're familiar with Jason Isbell, but he is, I think, one of American country's last hopes for remaining relevant at any more than the most superficial of levels (my above disclaimer aside). But I'm going to immediately check out your recommendations, so I can get a feel for where your original comment was coming from. And if you're reading this, Frank, thanks for facilitating conversations like this one.
