- Dishaye Stevenson was bubbly - always the life of the party and always loving on her family.
She carried a heavy load, making sure her 16-year-old daughter had it all, serving as a caregiver for her mom who had a stroke and is now partially paralyzed. And to top it off - trying to be the perfect wife.
“[Dishaye] did everything in her power to show him that she loved him no matter what,” Dishaye's sister, Jasmine Stevenson, said.
But, Jasmine Stevenson says somehow that love was not enough.
“It was a lot of red flags,” Jasmine Stevenson said.
They were red flags that their family didn’t catch in time. Police found Dishaye Stevenson’s body Wednesday morning after she’d been shot point blank in the chest. Police said Michael Smith, who is her husband, is to blame.
"Like I just don't understand. I just wanna know why,” Jasmine Stevenson said. “Why would you take my sister from us? Like why?”
Dishaye Stevenson's family told WFAA they knew something was wrong on Tuesday night when her daughter called to say she couldn’t get a hold of her mom.
“She never leave my niece no matter what, she never leaves my Mama no matter what,” Jasmine Stevenson said.
So, Jasmine Stevenson called her cousin, Anita, and they started looking for her. They tracked Dishaye Stevenson's car to the Pleasant Village Apartments, where her father-in-law lives.
“I seen a big handprint on the driver window. And you know, I'm a criminal justice major, so I start trying to use like different context clues,” said Stevenson’s cousin, Anita.
Then came a post from a community blog.
“It said that it was a lady shot to death, which was like three minutes from where we was at,” Anita said.

My sister said, "I feel like I am going to be dead by the end of the week." That was a Monday and she was killed on Wednesday. When I tell you I have NEVER fully recovered from that ordeal. It was 1988 and every morning at 4:45am I wake up and think about her. Domestic violence affects the whole family and destroy numerous lives.
They never tell you everything. You think it is not that bad but then it happens and you are raked with guilt for not digging deeper, asking more questions, doing more. It is so depressing.

My sister went through exactly the same thing…my sister was 4 months pregnant when her husband shot her 5 times…luckily she made it but is a quadriplegic and can’t do anything for herself…the baby didn’t make it but she also have 2 other kids who love her dearly and take such great care of her! Sending my deepest condolences 🙏. My brother was killed by his girlfriend. He was the oldest out of 11 children. She said if she couldn't have him nobody else will not have him. My father and mother spoke to him Wednesday evening he stated he will be home to visit early Saturday morning. Friday night we get a call that my brother got killed. My brother was a tall medium build man. Make it short ....my brother got off from work he got home her and her sister was there. She came towards him with a knife and stabbed him in the heart and killed him instantly. My mother rest her soul never got over that. I notice she got through it from Grace from God. My father which my brother his name sake lost his best friend. I will continue to pray for your family that God give you comfort and strength 🙏.

Really heartfelt. My family suffered the same loss. September 30 of 2022 my sister and her daughter was killed by my sisters boyfriend. The pain is still deep my sister left behind a son 20 years old. My niece had a 3 year old and a 1 month old

Because sometimes folk can speak the truth out loud and people wouldn't pick up on it because the cry for help is too faint. Its the reasons why we have hindsight unfortunately. Coming from a dv situation where I had to get my child and myself away completely…remember this, small red flags again, are still red flags. You never really realize how close you are to death until you leave for good.

You didn’t watch the video? They said he was sent to the hospital because he was full of so much PCP. So he was overly high on once of the worst drugs which can cause hallucinations and delusion. But he was also jealous it seems as she was the breadwinner even with a child.
