    🎉 Oh I absolutely love Trader Joe’s wine selections. It makes me feel like I’m actually rich. Rich in wine! but yes nothing feels better than to go here and spend a $100 on wine and leave out with 12 bottles of wine from around the world. 😂😂 there’s a few staples that I always buy from Trader Joe’s like Beaujolais by Georges Duboeuf and also they have a great Italian ValPolicella reserve. 🍷

    We don't have Trader Joes in Taiwan/Asia, but we do have Costco and also Carrefour (a big French supermarket chain) and RT-Mart which is a Taiwanese supermarket chain originally with a majority stake held by Auchan (another big French supermarket chain),
    We buy most of our wines from these three places and the variety, selection and quality has improved a lot during the last 5-6 years; as more regions, appellations and wine styles are becoming available. Kirkland Signature line of wines is growing and with Decanter reviewing their wines they have improved considerably.
    I don't have any regular buys of wines, but being subscribed to Wine Folly TV, being an owner of WF Master's Guide (Magnum Edition) & a Decanter subscriber I have a bit of knowledge about picking up good QPR wines.

      Pa state liquor stores have a great selection due to the amounts of wines they buy. But, it's always worth a trip across the Delaware river to NJ stores (Trader Joe's near Princeton or a Joe Canal's)

  • @MickPosch
    @MickPosch 9 месяцев назад

    If (like me) you're from New Jersey, and you're wondering why your local Trader Joe's doesn't sell wine, it may have to do with liquor license laws. I heard - though this is hard to verify, so correct me if you know better - that a chain store in NJ is only allowed to have two liquor licenses - so only two TJ's in the entire state sell wine. But what's interesting is that for years I was convinced that my local TJ's didn't sell wine, until I finally noticed that the liquor store a few doors down was named "Wine Trader" and I was like "I....ahem...think I see what's going on here!"

    • @Winefolly
      @Winefolly  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, each state has its own set of laws dictating how alcohol is distributed and sold. For example, in Tennessee, you need to go to a state-run liquor store with a limited selection whereas, if you're in California, it's pretty open.
      It makes is really challenging for people to learn about wine or even be exposed to quality wines. Places I never want to live based on their rigid rules include Penn, Alabama, and Utah. lol. Even if I love those states!

    Hi Madeline. You pixie of the wine world! Been following you since the inception of Wine Folly, own your book (have even given some away as gifts) and accessories, but now, finally, a comment. You need to occasionally give a negative review of the wines you are tasting in your videos to have some credibility besides just being a wine advocate. Just once I'd like to hear "whoa that's rough, or cloying, or dirty tasting, or even an occasional "yuck" - like all of us wine lovers happen upon everyone in a while when tasting/drinking. Every bottle you just happen to open and taste blind (e.g. the Trader Joe's video, can't be great. You need to let us know that too.
    Still a fan, but would like your thoughts on this issue.

    • @Winefolly
      @Winefolly  Год назад

      Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. I generally avoid picking out and putting bad wines in video, because negativity doesn't help the topic of wine. That being said, this video isn't supposed to be about these exact wines, it's about how to think differently about wine in order to find great quality and value.
      Based on the feedback so far, most people just wanted "The Answer" and a rating which I'm not too keen on offering up. learning might be harder, but it will always stick with you in the long run.

      You kinda have to train your palate / nose to start picking up the nuances. It takes practice! It's like smelling spices in a dish.
      In reality, wine produces many volatile aromatic compounds which can combine to make 100s of different aromas. In fact, they're stereoisomers (mirror image molecules) to flavors we know (like strawberry!).
