Popped up in my algorithm after carving through all available Blood Meridian content. One of the greatest books ever written, and one of my favorites alongside Invisible Cities and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

@@goldproductionsofficial9949I read about half of it, watched the movie and then immediately wished it was a novella instead of a novel. I think it would have been much better as a shorter piece.

I’ve read it at least twice and am reading it again on holiday in Crete with my girlfriend (she thinks that’s weird). I’m not sure I’ve ever really understood it at all until I listened to your lectures, but I let the language wash over me and I love it. I’m quite sure it must be one of the greatest books ever written even though I haven’t read them all. How could it be any other way when whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent

I'm so glad I've found this channel. I am a new fan of McCarthy and this means a lot to me. Especially since I don't really have anyone to talk to about Blood Meridian or Cormac McCarthy's works. I do have friends it's just that they either don't know about it, don't care, or for whatever reason.
I tend to overthink and overdiscuss very thought-provoking media and it's nice that there's an entire channel dedicated to this great and impactful book. ♥︎

Having listened to your videos today I have some new thoughts.
The USA was founded on the ideas of the enlightenment, the founding fathers were extreme liberals in their day. The Judge with his knowledge of the arts, law, science, languages etc. would have been thought of as an enlightened man, yet he is more savage than any so called ‘savage’. Even ‘liberals’ at that time agreed with manifest destiny and the need to bring civilisation to the ‘barbarians’. The British Empire, Napoleon, Stalin and Hitler would all have made similar claims about what they were doing- they were civilising the world in their own minds.
It probably also had something to do with the amorality of science and scientists- they seek knowledge but claim no responsibility for what is done with that knowledge. Didn’t McCarthy have friends at Loz Alamos where the atom bomb was developed?
Some random thoughts but then again I’m pissed and stoned. These videos are great!

hi Aaron, I'm about to finish Blood Meridian for the first time and have a question about your RUclips content. What is the difference in your lectures and the episodes? And do the episodes align with chapters? For example, is episode V about chapter V?

Man the Comanche seem so amazing with how you describe it. White people must be even more amazing if draftees and farm hands can take down hoards of guys that are apparently navy seals combined with acrobats and the best horseman ever.

Oh so it was the White man's ingenuity. Got it. Weird they had access to all these resources on this massive landmass and never did anything with them.

I mean I guess it helped that most of the tribes were killed by other tribes before we even got here.

A fat grandpa with a gun will beat a navy seal with a knife. The Colt Pistol changed everything.
