It’s terrifying that the real judge Holden still has this aura of mystery to him. Knows multiple languages, nobody knows where he is from and appears randomly when left stranded like maybe he was the devil.
@@juancanalesdelacruz7754 It feels like he is the Devil, literally, and for me that interpretation doesn't work purely logically speaking, but it does feel quite true.
@@PlayNiceFolks if you really wanna know he's a gnostic archon(basically an evil angel), all of McCarthy's works are strewn with gnostic mysticism but most people see Catholicism instead cuz it's what theyre used to, however there are some differences. For example Yahweh was turned evil by the divine spark and his son Jesus turned into a snake and convinced the humans to steal it from him. This is why tobin is often described as hissing and at one point seemingly turns into a snake. In gnosticism the point of the religion is apotheosis through the absolute gaining and dominion of knowledge, like the judge with his catalogues. It also has a lot to do with fire, which is symbolic of our divine spark, the monologues around the fire, the epilogue where someone Is mining fire out of the earth and even the scene in no country for old men where the cop described the dream of seeing his father walking to a fire and knowing he'd join him there

When it come to good and evil,I like Carl jung's views of it he reintroduced a old native tale of 2 wolves..which says each of us have 2 wolves within us one of them represents empathy, kindness, everything associated with positive human emotions.than the other has all the inherent evil traits..which wolf win determines what kind of world we live in.but Carl jung points out if you neglect one wolf for too long and it will bite you.which is a clever way to say we need healthy ways to channel those negative emotions becuz no matter what we tell ourselves they're still within us.

Well done. I appreciate the message towards the end, as well. It feels like the darkness is winning, though. Everyone is so confused and misled, to the point that even the best people are either perpetuating terrible things, or complicit in them. Here’s hoping that we start to wake up collectively.
Very good video and the last 10 minutes of you talking about good and evil was well said and touching. Goodness will always endure with Evil and you will always find acts of kindness and goodness in people in an otherwise evil world we live in.
You have no idea how badly I needed to hear the ending of that video... I'm a disabled combat veteran, 19d Cavalry Scout, with tours in iraq. At that time I was given 5-10 yrs to live. Recently i wasin the hospital with a lung infection that made my lungs rub against my rib cage and the pain was insane with every breath. While there I had some new MRIs done and conversed with some experts. They told me I have 3-6 yrs left... There is no cure besides new lungs and that's not gunna happen. I have 10 yo boy named Maximus who broke his arm in football practice last week. He's not ready for me to leave him... He's not ready, nor am I ready to leave him... I needed to hear what u said... it gave me hope. It made my heart feel better. I've been mean and so angry like no one's business and I've been letting it all out on random people and I know it's not right but I find myself being the bad guy more than ever. It's cuz I'm scared... It's cuz im mad that I'm dying and they're not...tbh I served my country honorably in combat, I'm good man, I'm loyal, I'm faithful, I don't deserve to die young. Reading Blood Meridian while camping in the west Texas desert 🏜️ was a terrifying experience. I had to put it down until I returned to Houston Texas. It’s still a very haunting tale.

Great video, I tried to find out a lot of this information for myself and I knew a great deal as well as reading the Cormac McCarthy novel. This video greatly expanded on what I already knew and presented it in a great narrative. I think it shows how well McCarthy researched his book and I think he told the story reasonably accurately.
I never saw the sheriff Bell dream the same as others. The way it’s presented doesn’t speak of hope like other people see it. At least for me. It’s more of a somber thing. His father carrying the fire ahead seemed more like his father died, or went on ahead, leaving Bell in darkness to carry on until he ultimately caught up with his father. As many of his ilk are religious, it seems like he meant he’ll die one day. Which leaves the darkness. I take to mean as his father is the “Old Men” and Sheriff Bell, being raised in the image of his father, would be left in a time when people like his father are no longer useful. While Sheriff Bell wanted to be what his father was, he knew he was ultimately outmatched by the evils of the time. One horse towns and brave sheriffs were no longer enough to keep the peace. How could they when even large government organizations still had trouble keeping the peace? That’s just the way I see it. The only hope carried in his dream is the day he died, and if his faith was correct, he’d see his father again where he kept the fire going.
I cant describe the quickness with which i snatched my ear bud out of my head when he started describing the plot of blood meridian, im reading it actively right now😂
... I don't know if ' Blood Meridian ' was one of the " Great Works of Literature " or not, if only because I am not worthy of making so haughty a judgement, but I DO know that it was just about the most striking book I've ever read - second only (in my unschooled opinion) to the haunting ' 1984 ' ... by nature, and perhaps by necessity, it is written in an archaic and rather episodic style that I nonetheless found easy to read, easy to absorb & sufficiently gripping that I was hard-pressed to pause my consumption. Whatever McCarthy was as a writer, he was gifted with a unique literary eye to the visual descriptor in narrative prose and a clean and honest frankness of morality without the need to resort to obvious moralizing ... buy this book read it and re-read it ... give it an honored place on your bookshelf !

Thanks for this one, Josh. I've been waiting on it for a few months. I've been fascinated by Glanton (not in a good way) since reading Blood Meridian and Samuel Chamberlain's biography. Keep doin' what you do, man. I and many others appreciate your story telling.
I appreciate you listening
I am literally reading this novel right now - I think a lot of engagement with TWWE inspired me to take a look at it; so this is awesome. Thank you Josh for the added context.
Also, wow - I did not expect a wonderful morality lesson at the end. Thank you for that - I needed to hear it :)
Hope you enjoy it!
Dude thank you so much for this. You're incredible.
Thank you!
Quickly becoming my favourite channel!
Heck yeah
When it come to good and evil,I like Carl jung's views of it he reintroduced a old native tale of 2 wolves..which says each of us have 2 wolves within us one of them represents empathy, kindness, everything associated with positive human emotions.than the other has all the inherent evil traits..which wolf win determines what kind of world we live in.but Carl jung points out if you neglect one wolf for too long and it will bite you.which is a clever way to say we need healthy ways to channel those negative emotions becuz no matter what we tell ourselves they're still within us.
You made me tear up at the end, I love what you said about the dark and the light, I agree 100%. Thank you for all of your work
Thank you for listening!
Thanks!

Josh this might have been the very best show you have ever done. Your rambling was of the highest calibre. Thank you Bro! Well played Man! 💪
Wow, thanks!
Really appreciate the effort this took. Amazing video and beautiful analysis at the end too. Cheers!
Much appreciated!
Well said my friend. Keep up the good fight. Thank you for the work you put into these videos to spread a lil love!
Great Job Josh! Just exactly what I needed! One Day at a Time!
That’s it
Any podcast about Blood Meridian that exists without my knowledge, exists without my consent..HEAR ME, MAN!
I've been waiting awhile for this one. I enjoyed it a lot. You make those long, dull shifts at work more bearable, Josh. Thank you!
Haha thanks
Wendigoon made a 5 hour retelling of blood meridian
Unearthing channels like this one is what I love about YT. Greetings from Poland 👌🤠😎
Hello Poland!
Another excellent video. Keep up the work, you're helping a lot of ppl out here
Thank you
Josh I’ve been watching since ALMOST the very beginning. I loved the rough edges early on. However, it’s been really cool watching how you’ve really grown into this, both professionally with the channel, and personally as well. You’re doing one helluva job. Keep up the great work. And thank you so much for what you do. God Bless
Thank you!!!
I find your voice and the way you make videos is very good. Thank you for your hard work! Also the piece at the end was very kind of you
Thank you very much!
Tried to get the Chamberlin book but it was very expensive. I bought a shotgun instead.
Thanks again for a good one.
Read blood Meridian about 5 times. Gave me nightmares. The craft of his writing is amazing and well worth studying. Love to hear Texan history, we people out west in California appreciate your efforts!
Yeah, same here. You can get it cheap now, like 20 bucks on amazon.
hell yeah we do I read it twice probably going to read it again soon
You can read it free dude. There’s pdf and epub versions you can download with a simple google search.
Yeah Ive always wanted a copy of my confession, gonna check it out now
Man keep up the awesome videos your doing a hell of a good job 👍
Thank you!!!
This was one heck of a video essay. Best of luck with your fire, brother. God bless.
Thank you, you too
Thank you
You have no idea how badly I needed to hear the ending of that video...
I'm a disabled combat veteran, 19d Cavalry Scout, with tours in iraq. During my tours of combat I ended up with l, at this point, stage 4 paraseptal emphysema.
I found out in march 2020 when I broke some ribs and punctured my lungs BMX racing at 42 yrs old.
It's cuz im mad that I'm dying and they're not...tbh
I served my country honorably in combat, I'm good man, I'm loyal, I'm faithful, I don't deserve to die young.
I heard someone once say that "only the lucky get to grow old" and it's so true.
I’m sorry you’re going thru this, man. I truly am.
@@30.06onaGrassyKnoll man I’m sorry boss, I just signed a 11b I’m ready
@@30.06onaGrassyKnoll you know they say only the good die young. Good luck to you man all say a prayer for ya
@@30.06onaGrassyKnoll thank you for saying this. I met a man in your situation. I didn't understand. I couldn't see he was afraid. I wasn't there for him the way I should have been. I regret that. Side note- ha! Blood meridian is my fav book. I'm warm and kind but have had my own struggles. I wish I could change your circumstances. I hope you find and have what you need. This is the way. The beginning. I promise.
phenomenal book, terrifying characters. truly even more haunting to hear this history
I loved your end narrative about keeping our fires going. I myself have been battling demons for most of my life now. Im a recovering addict and you said it well. Its a daily process. You just have to get up early and give the day the best you have. One day at a time brother!
One day at a time
Thank you for this great insight in to one of the best books about human nature, the judge still haunts me such a frighteningly scary character.
Thanks for doing all the research for this story, well done.
My pleasure, thank you for listening!
I just returned from West Texas after visiting Big Bend National Park. For days and weeks after my visits there, there is a strange sadness that haunts me. I have no clue why, but the wild, desolate, dangerous west Texas always leaves me stunned knowing that there are people who roamed that area and survived. I dream about west Texas and the barren landscape of distant mountains frequently. If i didn’t know better, I’d swear I lived in that land of Hell in a previous life.
Reading Blood Meridian while camping in the west Texas desert 🏜️ was a terrifying experience. I had to put it down until I returned to Houston Texas. It’s still a very haunting tale.
I hope to make the pilgrimage one of these days myself
Finally! Much love to you and your kin. Good to see you back.
Thank you kindly
Thanks for the vid!! Listening to these help me get through work

Thrilled shocked and disgusted in equal measures by this one!
Thanks and greetings to all from here in the UK 🙏🇬🇧❤️
Thanks for watching!
This is one of Your better episodes Josh. Created about a subject i knew little of. It is very informative despite the lack of established fact for portions of it.
I appreciated most when You went philosophical, touching on current events, societal values, an individuals ethics and so much more.
You have shown Yourself to be so much more than a very good storyteller.
Thank You for all Your efforts.
Best Wishes to You, Your Family and Friends. #BloodyBeaver
Thanks you very much
Outstanding work Josh!! Great video, thank you!
Thanks!
Nice work man, more like this.
ending sent chills down my spine... still is being honest. i love this channel im a huge fan, i have people in my life who have also suffered from the big C. but your message towards the end of the video touched my heart brother. keep up the amazing work 🫡🙌

Wow, thank you
Dude so glad I found your channel, 👍
Me too!
Hell yeah, Dale and Brandon, you got this! Great episode, Josh. Awesome!
Holy geez...I downloaded this from RUclips via Real Player and just now watching it....what a bad story...AND THEN at the end a real preaching story. Naw, that was not nonsense...it was a powerful call to choose to do good. Much respect.
Won't scalp...but never been in an orgy...can't say I won't have no orgy. :-)
I miss the extrrrrrrravaganza intro. 😂
Ever since I first read this I read again yearly. Pretty sure it's become my favorite book
Rambling about nonsense is what makes me listen to you. It’s great food for thought seasoned with concern for humanity. 👍
Ha thanks
This was excellent. Loved the Way you concluded the talk 👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed it!
Powerful closing. I was moved. ❤️
love the narration and pace! and a wonderful conclusion.
Thank you
Damn! I’ve been listening since the start. I listened to this today at work via Apple podcasts but now I get to listen again on YT!
Thanks
I just started reading BLOOD MERIDIAN and THIS was invaluable and very informative.
Nice
Great day when Josh uploads... And your jokes have gotten a lot better since early on I was listening to some of your older content not gonna lie the jokes were brutally corny lol all jokes aside thanks for the great content and presenting in a manor thats far from dry making it a lot easier to digest
Agreed!
That was one hell of an opening.
Straight from Mr McCarthy
@@WildWestExtravaganza i enjoy Tennyson Cowper Shelley. Reading up on what I can find I suddenly have a huge man crush on this guy. Thanks for showing him to me. 👍

Holy shit, I’ve listened to the audiobook of this like 4 times but haven’t delved as deep as I’d like into the people. Just starting this and max hype!
Thanks friend. Kiwi here enjoying your in depth study
Great to hear!
Love your work mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Great video, I tried to find out a lot of this information for myself and I knew a great deal as well as reading the Cormac McCarthy novel. This video greatly expanded on what I already knew and presented it in a great narrative. I think it shows how well McCarthy researched his book and I think he told the story reasonably accurately.
Great to hear!
Keep em coming, love em!
Josh is such a likeable person.im not even American but i will always click a new video from josh.keep up the hard work bro respect ✊
Thanks man
Just happen to be almost finished with the book. I am excited for this video, thank you.
You're welcome!
Great content!! I appreciate you my friend.
I appreciate that! Thank you
I never saw the sheriff Bell dream the same as others.
I cant describe the quickness with which i snatched my ear bud out of my head when he started describing the plot of blood meridian, im reading it actively right now😂
Great book!
Good stuff. Positive vibes to everyone out there.
Apart from the book, my man, what you talked about in the end was inspiring, you are just going from strength to strength
Thanks
Wild story. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
My favorite book of all time! Hell yeah
I was even going to ask if you noticed a Glanton scalper reference in the lonesome dove series novel Dead Man’s Walk, but nothing gets by you
