- I hope you enjoyed learning my pros & cons about Archies breed, cavapoo. He is such a great dog but I do think its important to learn about the breed before committing to a puppy. Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments.

I had a Cavapoo & he was the sweetest dog ever. Smart, easy to train. Maybe I can answer some of the questions posted.
Cavapoos are very friendly, love people & other dogs. He approaches everyone as a friend he hasn't met yet. If you are looking for a guard dog or a protective breed, Cavapoos are not it! I understand that they aren't big barkers, mine rarely barked.
They do not like to be alone. They would rather go with you than stay home. If you work in an environment that would allow him to go to work with you, he would be a quiet, well mannered office companion. My Cavapoo, Buddy, loved to go places with me & enjoyed riding in a car. We traveled to a week long camp for owners & their pets & he loved it. He had friends (human & furry) everywhere we went & was loved even by people who said "I really don't like dogs- but he's so cute!"
Buddy was a therapy dog & for 6 yrs. we visited people in assisted living, nursing homes and children's hospitals. He was perfectly suited to therapy work and loved it.
Some Cavapoos might get separation anxiety & be destructive, but mine wasn't. The key is to be sure they, like any dog, get enough exercise. But Cavapoos do not need as much exercise as some of the larger, high energy breeds.
I can't answer about hypoallergenic, I've had no issues with that.
Cavapoos do not shed, but they do have to be groomed. You need to brush them regularly between grooms, as the hair is soft, fine & can easily mat, especially around the ears & tail. Very sweet tempered, neither my groomer nor I had a problem bathing & trimming Buddy's hair & nails. Cavapoos don't have much of a "doggy" smell. I think partly that's natural, but also because they get groomed every 6-8 weeks.
One thing about Buddy that I am not sure is a Cavapoo trait or just my particular dog: he had a high prey drive. Anything that moved (bird, squirrel, rabbit, chipmunk, cats) he liked to chase. He would dig a hole to get to a vole or any animal that tunneled in the ground. I loved him, so I managed it. He never tried to dig under a fence.
Cavapoos are wonderful companions. The only downside I see is health issues. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels tend to have various conditions such as eye, knee & heart problems. They also can develop diabetes as they age. My dog only lived to be 11.5 yrs. old. Buddy had a congenital heart condition, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetes.
But even with their health history, Cavapoos are such a joy! I would get another in a heartbeat.

Ours is awesome. Looks like Abby's. Prey drive? YES. YES. YES. Barking? YES. YES. YES. Good with little people, big people, strange dogs? YES! He's awesome. Separation anxiety is MASSIVE, but non-destructive - he's a velcro dog. Very good off leash - stays relatively close (within eye contact) and recall is naturally good. I think this videois accurate as are Judy's observations.
@@mattclark1278 Hi Matt. About the barking & separation anxiety- Buddy rarely barked & had no separation anxiety issues. I had the opportunity to be home with him or could take him with me a lot of places, so maybe that's why it was never a problem.
I believe dogs have individual personalities just like people- some shy or more anxious, some more friendly & outgoing. Don't know if Buddy wasn't a barker because of his personality, or because he wasn't left alone much.
I would hate for someone to miss out on a wonderful Cavapoo due to concern over barking & separation anxiety. However, if a Cavapoo would be left alone all day every day, I believe a different breed would be a better match for that situation.

I have a cavapoo and totally agree with everything in this video! Especially the attachment issues. I just now ask every place I want to go to if they have a patio that allows dogs. Yours is adorable!!

So glad to hear someone say that adopting is not for everyone! I totally agree!! I think telling everyone to adopt is irresponsible because it takes a very certain kind of home to adopt!
I 100% agree, adoption dogs usually require more patients and love, some people are not able to give that to these dogs and they do not end up in the best homes. Also some might require extra money spent because of medical reasons etc. We decided to not adopt for many reasons but with my boyfriend being in law school I needed a more predictable dog, I needed to understand the breed before hand and prepare. & he needed to not shed.. there are many reasons but I do my best to support shelters and people who do adopt but its just not for everyone
My little brother is Intellectually disabled so we can not do adoption because we just don’t know how the temperament of the dog would be but we were so happy with our decision to go with a cavapoo. Our Cavapoo is a sweet heart with not a single mean bone in him, however we were not luck out in the training department lol it’s was very difficult with him but we were able to get him to potty trained and sit and that’s about it hahahahhah We love him so much!
Erbert Chong breeders can’t guarantee health or temperament just saying. It always isn’t a given. I know a lot of people who got dogs from reputable breeders and still had issues health wise and temperament. Anyways adopt and shop responsibly!

Thats not what I was implying at all, some dogs coming from shelters can come from abusing families or families that didn't take care of their dogs health so you have to play catch up, and some people cannot afford things like that. Never said breeders can guarantee a dogs health, thanks!
I agree bc at the end of the day ur still giving a puppy a loving home and sometimes it’s just irresponsible to adopt bc they need (and deserve) a lot of care

I am really excited, because I am getting a Cavapoo in March! We are thinking of naming her Sasha. My family’s friend has a cavapoo who is going to be the Hier to an upcoming litter, and we are first on the waiting list! After watching your video and researching a bunch, my family thinks a cavapoo would be perfect for our family! The only bad part is that they can only stay home for up to 2 hours, but we planned it all out, and since my dad’s work is big, he will bring our cavapoo to work for the morning, before we are home from school. But that is obviously when COVID is over. For now, we stay home all day! Me and my brother do online school, and my dad and mom work from home!

They do make mini cavapoos, they are harder to find and usually more expensive though

Thank for the information, I’ve been researching for a poodle or Cavapoo for awhile I really want one. I Initially wanted to rescue but it’s hard finding dogs who are hypoallergenic and won’t have me or my mom sneezing and that stay small . Plus some shelters in my area can be strict which is understandable but you can have all the qualifications and be denied for living in an apartment and other things that won’t affect the care and life the dog will have 😫.
It’sPure Joy yes we needed a hypoallergenic dog as well, I try and donate to shelters & help out when I can but unfortunately rescuing wasn’t going to work for us 🤷🏼♀️

So grateful for the Info!!!!! Doing my research to see which dog is best for me... Cavapoo’s are definitely in my top 3s. My question for you would be do you think it’s a good dog for first time dog owner???
I personally think Cavapoos are a perfect 1st time dog owner dog, they are easy to train and so loving. Just make sure you do research on how you want to train them & take care of them

Archie is very cute. I've never owned a dog but considering this breed. I live in a 3 bedroom apartment in NY. I have asthma so I think a hypoallergenic dog is a way to go. I also need a dog that is not too hyper yet playful since I have anxiety. Thank you for your videos!
Then a cavapoo seems like the perfect dog!!! Archie helps with my anxiety, he always knows when I am having a harder day and is so supportive
MC. Did you know that petting a dog lowers one's blood pressure & is calming? There have been many studies done over the years that bear this out. I think a Cavapoo would be perfect for you. Just remember any breed of dog will be more active until they mature a bit. Cavapoos are very loving dogs and my sweet boy was calm, rarely barked, easily trained. Perfect breed for first time dog owner. Good luck!
We have a Cavapoo and she is the best dog we have ever had! So sweet and loving. She will bark at strangers from time to time but that isn't always a bad thing.

I have a cavapoo named Teddy who will be a year old June 18! He is very smart he knows how to open a door, shake hands, stand on two legs, open blinds and I have heard him make four noises like words.
Super impressive! They are very smart dogs! If I taught Archie how to open a door he would try and go everywhere with me haha

My cavapoo is 30lbs and my love bug. Have had him what’s going to be 7 years. When I got him I never knew anything about cavapoos. I had my cavalier King Charles before him and knew I wanted a cavalier again but not the shedding!!! That’s when I found Chance. Best PTSD service dog ever. He also loves the whole family being together. He is very over protective of me though when it comes to other people because he knows I have anxiety issues. He is a cat person more than a dog person though.

I keep seeing comments on separation anxiety which keeps making me rethink my decision on possibly adopting one. I work 4-8 hours during the week right now so he/she cant be with me all day. Is there another recommended smaller breed similar to a cavapoo under 15lbs that has less separation anxiety?

Just depends on how long you are gone, I try not to leave Archie for longer than 6 hours at the most, he really hates being left alone & I feel guilty leaving him haha but If you are able to let him out in the day and spend your nights with him im sure it'd be fine. I do recommend waiting till after you graduate tho, this was a ton more responsibility than I was expecting and requires a lot of time, energy & money. Hopefully that was helpful!

Hmmm so maybe if you introduce them as a puppy, it might not be all Cavapoos but Archie for some reason doesn't love cats
Great video. Helpful. Been looking at these dogs for a few months now. Decided that this is the dog for us. Just waiting for these over inflated prices to go down that everyone is currently charging. One question I have is what is the odour like for these breeds. Some dogs have naturally bad smells and your house can have that dog smell. Any info much appreciated. Thanks
They are a more expensive breed, but there are breeders out there with reasonable pricing! As for odor, Archie doesn't smell. I give him baths regularly and I haven't noticed any bad smells
Dogs in the hound family have more odor and need bathed more often. Poodle family is the opposite.

I have a Toy Poodle and she is the best dog ever! She was so super easy to train and even though you have to commit to grooming them it's totally worth it to me for not having to deal with shedding hair everywhere! Your baby is adorable😊💕
I agree!!! Having to clean up hair every day would be such a pain in my eyes, grooming isn't too bad and less work for me!

Hi Abby! I love your videos with Archie and I have a 13 week old cavapoo. My puppy has hair similar to Archie's and he gets quite smelly at times but I don't want to bathe him too much and dry out his skin or coat. I bought a great quality dog shampoo, but how often do you reccomned a cavapoo be bathed? I've heard that most people with hypoallergenic breeds bathe their dogs about every two weeks and some even weekly, but I'm not sure. Also what shampoo do you use on Archie? His coat looks great by the way!
I give Archie a bath every 1-2 weeks, the biggest thing I noticed is that his eye boogers (gross I know lol) get smelly so I try and clean his face as often as I can. I also have dog wipes that I wipe him down with after being outside.
I don’t remember the brand of shampoo, I know I show it in my most recent day in the life of Archie video. 🙈
I spent a lot of time researching foods for Archie coat haha but salmon oil helps with a silky coat ☺️

If your mom is willing to spend time with the dog then it should be fine, they do not thrive on being stuck in the kennel

Hi we just got a cavapoo and we are so happy with our decision!!!! I love al your videos and watch a lot of your videos! I do have a question, if you do have to leave your dogs since they are not really good to be left alone. How long do you normally leave them?
My family and I are thinking about getting a Cavapoo in the next couple of months but I am still in school and both of my parents work. I go to school for 7 hours a day and am worried about leaving the Cavapoo alone for that time with no one home. The dog would end up being a inside dog but we were thinking that when we leave we would but them outside. Is it a good idea for my family to get a Cavapoo?
Hmm leaving them for that long in the first year might be too long without a potty break. I would see if you can have someone let them out while you are gone

Yes I would say Archie is more bonded to me but loves everyone.. so while he has his one human he is not aggressive towards other people
I am getting a Cavapoo soon and I have a couple questions. How old is Archie now, is he fully grown? Also do you know about how big they are when they are an adult?? I'm getting one that is 12 weeks, so thats why I want to know how big she will grow :)
Yes archie is full grown he will be 2 next week. He is probably about 18 or 19 lbs right now. It really depends on how big the parents are because some Cavs or Poodles can be bigger or smaller but Archies parents were 9lbs (poodle) and 21 lbs (cav)

My family's considering getting a cavapoo. Currently, everyone's home all day, but further down the road he could be home alone for up to 5-6 hours on weekdays. Is that okay or will it be a big issue?
yes 5-6 hours is fine as long as they have water and they aren't a little puppy :)

Hi I have a cavapoo he is 11months old and only has one con, he's such a picky eater he doesnt like chicken we have 3 types of kibble at home he mostly ignores it but if hubby takes him out and puts some in his pocket he eats a handful when he's out. I feed him steak in pieces sometimes raw and sometimes cooked, ive tried meatloaf with beef turkey small amount of rice he liked it at first but didnt eat it again. He has turned his nose up at eye fillet at times and does like a raw lamb cutlet now and again. What do you feed archie? Its the only worry i have all else is great. Havent found a dog food he likes yet i think it was because he was 8 wks when we got him and think he should have been longer with his mum and siblings for the competition.
Archie was picky at first as well, I have a video on the recipe I feed Archie! I would try topping his food with pumpkin or bone broth & see if that helps. Its so horrible when you cant get them to eat, it for sure stresses me out haha
Thank you for the video. Very insightful. We have to rehome our dogs, as unfortunately they're not the right breed for our family, extremely high needs, with kids with special needs, and our eldest has allergies, so next time we want to do more research and get an allergy friendly dog.

The other dog we're holding onto, to try and make it work. If he goes well without her, we will keep him. We just put too much on my plate at once. I love dogs so much and fell in love with them both.

I am really into dogs. When I grew up we had a boxer and American Stafford terrier. I am trying now to find a dog for myself. I can be allergic to dogs. That is why I just gave up on springer spaniel. Do you have experience with this? I have read that they are less likely to give allergies. You said it as well. Do you maybe know someone who is generally allergic but is fine next to your dog? And does he bark in the house when he is left alone? Some dogs do it non-stop when they are alone, that is why I am asking.
Yes my boyfriend who I live with is allergic to dogs and is not allergic to Archie. as for the barking, he will bark sometimes while we are gone, thats really just about the dogs personality. He does have anxiety but he doesn't bark nonstop

I was thinking about getting a cavapoo, and I was wondering if they grow up to be big enough dogs because I really want a smaller dog .btw archie is sooo cute
So he is about 15-17lbs right now.. he is pretty long and tall, I think he is the perfect size, not too small or too large. It really just depends on the parents size
If you really want a smaller dog than Archie a toy cavapoo could work better for you (toy poodle and a kings Charles cavalier) they look basically exactly the same just smaller (5-7kgs)
Do you think is a dog that would be fine staying at home while I go to the office for work?, is there any advice on helping with the anxiety?
They are good alone but max like six hours, they need lots of attention sometimes but they aren’t anxious dogs at least mine isn’t.
We have been working on Archie anxiety for a long time now & its a few different things that really help him (CBD, having a window to look out, a dog brother, the attention we give when we come home etc) but we can leave them for like 6 hours and they are fine but it doesn't happen often

@@abbystudnicka11 thanks for the response 😍...I guess F1 is cross between a cavalier and poodle so it’s 50% Cavalier and 50% poodle whereas F1B ‘s one parent is a cavapoo and the other a poodle, so 75% poodle and 25% cavalier.

Just depends on if you have someone who could let them out during the day and how they are potty trained

I do not do rehearsals for my videos, I like to keep them raw and natural hah but I did write down my main points I wanted to hit!
I’m getting a cavapoo in October I’m really excited, is there anything I should look out for like if they get lonely or how do I notice when a cavapoo is trying to tell me something wrong like if he feels sick what will he do to try to tell me
so exciting!! every dog is a little different and as you get to know your puppy you will learn their personality. Biggest thing is if their activity level is down and they only want to sleep or do not get excited like normal
