If you take a pair of fender Deluxe or Princeton w/ volume on 9 and a wah into boss digi-delay stereo out to each amp and on the left side line use a fuzzface and on the right side use a butler/chandler tube driver you can nail his tone with almost any strat. @@hectorgonzalez9170 what are you onto?? this whole song is NOTHING BUT MELODY. granted, it might not be the most exciting or innovative melody, but it's definitely melodious
That was actually what I was coming here to comment on. This song is beautifully done..however, the difference between this and say Cliffs of Dover was the catchy melody. I don't hear a single part in this song that I will be singing to myself later. I feel like this track is more geared toward impressing those Polyphia kids...and I hope he wins them over becuase Eric's music is so much better than that intentionally complex but expressively boring music.
My favorite thing abt Eric is how generous he is. He lists a bunch of mini lessons free and all he asks is that if you use them you make a donation to your local food pantry. Protect EJ at ALL COSTS!
I am so glad this legend is still around making new music. One of the greatest guitar players of all time, and one of the earliest guitar-centric albums I ever heard (my Dad showing me "Ah, Via Musicom!" album back around when I was 2 years old in 1990, lol. Thanks Dad.) Been a guitar player all my life due to guys like him ;)
Eric's tone has always been so damn rich and warm! If you like his tone you might like Ron Komie's too. I stumbled upon him in the related videos. ruclips.net/video/eqOWXR2gFY0/видео.html
@@catalystdrums123 Wow, thanks! I just followed your link here to discover some great new music (which I'm likely going to be buying). And I do hear what you're talking about here regarding similarities, but really, each guy has his own thing going. Komie's material is bit more, um... gentle, more like a cinematic soundtrack (not surprising given his background, as I discovered). Anyway, IMO, even after all these years, nobody can really _quite_ nail Eric Johnson's tone and his musical intensity... still unique and identifiable within a few notes. Great Komie stuff though. Eric is such an amazing guitarist. A true legendary musician and time tested artist. I saw Eric perform at Red Rocks Amphitheater in the 80s and numerous times since ❤️
In the back woods of Austin Texas Eric is shredding us into the unseen realm where only eternal uplifting songs exist forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and............
What a beautiful soul you have Eric. I will miss you when you're gone if I don't go first. Thank you so much for using your God given talent so wisely.
No guitarist has the same tone as Eric Johnson, what a kick ass tone and playing style that nobody has, Love It, it takes me into the 3rd heavens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the years of the late 900's AD there was Erik the Red exploring the continents, and in the year of the 2000's AD we have Eric the Johnson kicking ASS on guitar !!!!!!
Lot of folk talking about the song the tone, etc. but no one mentions the beautiful, down-to-earth, rugged scene in which the video is shot. I already had an inkling from songs like Desert Rose; but I can see clearly here that E.J. is inspired by the natural beauty of God's world and he values simple things like clean 60's Fender tone and simple 60's Ford Mustangs.
How can anyone possibly dislike this?? They have no soul apparently. I have been a huge fan for years and this certainly does not disappoint. The woods is lovely as is Eric's smiling face and his amazing fingers. Such a great song!
Instant goosebumps and tingles throghout my whole being. Eric , there are no words to describe your art. You set my soul free to soar untethered ! I have been in awe of you for 30 years now. Tears of joy and permagrin! Thank you Baron Von Tone
Eric Johnson is one of finest guitars players I've ever heard. He's insanely technical but still somehow manages to be highly musical and just gets tone I could never dream of getting. Any guitar player worth his salt in any way shape or form that has heard him play learned something about making music... He's truly gifted.
Total genius! I consider Erick Johnson to be the most authentic and original genius that the guitar has produced; his legacy shines and lasts through the years, always fresh and current, something unusual like very few artists in the history of music.
@@hectorgonzalez9170Eric should join a band ("supergroup"). This is like just an exposition of "EJ style guitar"). Not exciting. Great guitarist, but Tones was the peak...
Mr. Johnson is one of three guitarists whose styles have been a lifelong challenge and pursuit of mine. Having heard this tune, it's clear the pursuit continues. For those here who seem to have the audacity to knock EJ, I ask: How many people in the world are dedicating a significant portion of their lives to learning *your* style?
I've listened it over and over, and I gotta say this song is aptly named. It spells out Johnson's style articulately and understandably, as if he's carefully explaining the chops I've been trying to figure out for, oh, 29 years now...
Wonderful Eric Johnson... I have always wanted to see you recording a video so simply, while playing your legendary style. Thanks for taking us on another musical high! It makes me feel as though we are all just hanging out.. BRAVO
Tone is in the guitar, pedals, cables, amp, speaker, microphone, preamps, interface . . . it is not just in the fingers, unless you think Eric could get this exact tone out of any guitar and amp comboI gave him. Hell, Eric is an obsessive over rig details. He uses the gear he uses because it gives him this tone.
I _said_ it's both when I phrased it "it is not just in the fingers". If you walked around Eric's amp as he played, the tone would change. The tone you're hearing here is from a microphone positioned as you would never be positioned before an amp, and moving it an inch would return a different sound. Tone, especially recorded tone, is intrinsically linked to gear; I changed my speaker recently, and my tone changed. I got a decoupling mat for my cab, and my tone changed. I switch between guitars, and my tone changed. I rest my case.
