Please tell your son thank you for his service! My son was a marine for 14 years. Another son is an officer in the Air Force and just returned home from a deployment to the Middle East. And I now have a grandson in the Air Force. I understand! We had the Title of Liberty hanging on our living room wall for many years while they were growing up. I love the war chapters but not because they are war chapters but great leaders. This is my second time through this particular pod cast and I’m loving it. If you haven’t already, you should listen to the dvd put out by the church back in the early 2000s titled ‘Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled’. It’s beautiful. I’ll add your son and his battery to my prayers.

I somehow didn't catch this episode in its regular sequence, but the Lord "coincidentally" put it in my podcast lineup when I was driving for several hours yesterday. I felt the Spirit so powerfully as Brother Boren shared his mother's suggestion that he make his whole life a mission. What a beautiful reminder that as members of Christ's Church, we each have our own individual missions that we can choose to joyously fulfill throughout the entirety of our lives, regardless of our career choices or our circumstances. Right after I listened to this podcast, I learned that my granddaughter needs to cut her 18-month mission call short for medical reasons. I know the next few months are going to be challenging for her, and I am grateful to our merciful Heavenly Father for reserving this podcast in my lineup for a time when it would be fresh on my forgetful, grandmother mind. I know Satan will try to convince my granddaughter that she is a failure. Because of this podcast, I am prepared to offer this precious daughter of God a hopeful way of looking forward and taking the long view on this difficult experience. I love the lift I get from these podcasts. There are always profound gems in each one of them. Thank you, Hank and John, for your wonderful dedication and for making these inspiring podcasts a part of your life's missions.
Dr. Boren is an excellent teacher of the scriptures! I love how he draws examples from the lives of people in history, such as Churchill, and helps us apply them to the great Prophets in the Book of Mormon, and how we can then apply these examples in our own lives.

Great podcast! We the Church need leaders as yourself and guest to accept or run for political office both in local and especially Federal office. I'm 70 and what I see happening is people without righteous values making the laws of the land. Also people in and out of the church voting for these people and being decieved by their flattering words. It seems to me we are starting to live in the days of Amalickiah. I agree on a individual basis we are winning but as a people we don't win until the Savior returns. I recently participated in a 5k Freedom of Religion run ( in my wheelchair) on July 4th and was disappointed in the turn out from our ward and stake. Perhaps later when things get worse they will see the importance of action instead of just saying a prayer. It seems the opposition is always active.
Freedom of religion is important for all of us: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, Shintoists, etc. some people only want Christian and that is unchristian. I am glad nobody is persecuting anybody.
Thanks for the focus on the great leadership skills we can learn from these chapters. Specifically, how we need to control our emotions so that we can be effective leaders.
I am glad the New Testament has no wars,. Just our Lord Jesus teaching us to turn the other cheek, to forgive those that trespass against us, to love our enemies, to lay our lives for others.
At about 1:01 - I think alot of us on Sunday are simply tired. I always feel joy while I'm leading the music for the Primary children, but I'm always up and serving someone else at the same time. We're also so conservative - sometimes I think it would be fun if we were more the out loud "Amen" kind of people. It might help wake us up.

I love to think that Mormon, like any guy at any time in history, loved the war chapters. In fact, I think he loved the war chapters so much that he named his son Moroni. I like to think he also had other sons whom he named Helaman and Lehi 😅. I love to think that the impetus that the Lord used to have him include these chapters was his love of them 😊
Your statement, " Jesus didn't have an office..." also implies that He went to the people, the people didn't have to contact a secretary and make an appointment and wait... and wait. Our needs are often immediate and Jesus gave immediate succor. One other thing that struck me as I was reading in Alma 43, is when we kill someone, -- whether by an accident, in an act of self defence, or war, or murder - what happens between our spirits and the spirits of those who died because of us? I think there must be something because good people who kill someone go through PTSD through their lives, murders, sink lower and lower into the pits of a living Hell. I don't think there is any revelation about this, so whatever it is is pure conjecture. But if you have anything you would like to share, I would love to hear it. thanks for all you videos! 1
I think we have to be careful with the idea that there is no need to make appointments. We have to remember our church leaders have jobs, families, and are human. I learned a little while ago that I need to see my time as sacred. I was running myself ragged and realized I needed to color code my calendar. Also, some people need more help than I, or anyone else in the Church, can give. For those individuals, we need to encourage them to seek social services. We also need to not become the default problem-solver for others.
1:04 Brad Wilcox talked about Fast Sunday being the slowest Sunday, when I was investigating the church the Sister Missionaries told me the next Sunday would be a fast Sunday. I thought that meant all the meetings would be shorter to make it a fast Sunday!😅
Finding joy in Christ is easy. But sometimes church is barely tolerable. (Think of those meetings where boring speakers ramble on forever). Makes me wish we had paid pastors who are professional speakers. I have visited other religious denominations for their sabbath worship and they are so much more engaging and joyful! Why do our meetings have to be so boring? Having said that I remember another quote by President Kimball saying that he had never had a boring sacrament meeting. I have.
In that Pres. Kimball talk he said that our sacrament meeting worship is our own responsibility. We aren't there to be entertained. We are there to worship God and Christ and renew our covenants. We can do that even with less than stellar speakers. I love that we all have opportunities to speak in church. The speakers learn the most with their preparation.
I’m sorry you are bored with boring speakers. It’s not their responsibility to entertain you. It’s your responsibility to find truth in what they are saying. Every speaker teaches truth to one degree or the other. Truth helps us to perfect ourselves.
Our fairly newly called Bishop, whose chapel is a couple of hours from our little Group as we are too small to be a branch, came with his wife and five children to preside over our Sacrament Meeting and visit us in our homes, miles away as well.

It reminds me of the conference talk imploring us to look at our children from the five Mile high view where we can really understand the magnificence of their spirits. Our family also took part in the book more pageant as cast members and I will never forget how we felt every day as we recited the standard of truth. Of course it is traumatic . It has to be . That is why people get ptsd . But to defend yourself may have a different feeling . Who really knows .
Jesus doesn’t need an office because he already. Knows everything . But Jesus did want records kept of baptisms.
