  • In 1981, Aston Villa won their first league title in 71 years. As a result, they qualified for their first European Cup. They amazingly found their way to the final, where they would face a much fancied Bayern Munich side. It was a chance for them to make history.

Villa won the League with just 14 players and the European Cup with just 15, and teams like Man City, PSG and Juventus can’t win it with all the money in the world. Football Heritage. What a story.

I was 13 when Villa won! Against outright favourites Bayern Munich! It was incredible! I was in the crowd at City Centre Celebrations! You can't describe thr feelings of shared joy, for the whole City! When it really meant something special when only The Champions could play in it! And then we beat Barcelona in The Super Cup! Legends! 👏👏🏆🏆

Well done Villa. I remember them doing this, as a Scouser and Liverpool supporter I was extremely proud and pleased for Villa. They had fantastic players and staff. They fully deserved their victory.

Just missed out on this era being born in '85 but I watched our 90's Coca Cola cup wins. I remember our intertoto win and the quarter final of the Uefa vs Athletico. I see us winning something big soon under the current reign. UTV.

Great video. Brings back many memories. Villa were one helluva team in the early '80s, Withe, Morley and Shaw up front were complete dynamite.

26 May 1982.8.15pm kick off.. Feynoord stadium Rotterdam. Hot n sultry evening. Lotsa bolshy swaggering Bayern fans .Most orgasmic ecstatic night of my life. Withe's shin got the winner. Morley on the wing fantastic to set it up. But for me, man of the match. Gotta be Nigel Spink.

Clough not only said they shouldn't be in the final, he said they had no chance against bayern, and if they won he would buy them champagne. When they got back to the dressing room after the game, there was a case of champagne waiting with a note. Congratulations lads, Brian. What a gent.

  • @ezraezra2928
    @ezraezra2928 Год назад +2

Fun Fact: In addition to the local success, Peter Withe was known for big success with the team that considered weaker than English football.
In 2002, Withe managed Thailand national football team to the successful Tiger Cup (the old name of AFF Championship), when they beat Indonesia on penalties. Ironically, Withe decided to coach Indonesia for 2004 Tiger Cup, two years after our country were so close to win that prize under Bulgarian coach Ivan Kolev.
Our country has numerous fantastic results such as 3-0 win over co-host Vietnam and memorable comeback 4-1 win over Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur, after losing 1-2 at Jakarta. Despite he failed to match the same feat as he did with Thailand, losing to Singapore in the Final, at least he was infamous in Southeast Asian football.

And with Unai Emry at the helm hopefully "We win again". Europe here we come. But, I would swap a Champions League Cup for the Holy Grail....FA Cup. I was at Feynoord Stadium in Rotterdam on 26th May 1982 to see fantastic achievement of Dennis Mortimer raising European Cup. But I need an FA Cup win in my lifetime. My dad went to Wembley and saw Villa beat Man Utd in 1957 FA Cup. (We haven't won it since). I was but a twinkle in my dad's eye as I was born in 1959. So, an FA Cup win is what I pray for.😢😊

Man Englandclubs was just so good up until that ban in Heysel incident in 1985. Just ruined it for all English clubs because the fans just were too rowdy. Then when they got back in it was dominated by the Italians in the 90's. It took years until English clubs got back to the now Champions League final.

Dennis Mortimer lived next door to me, in Liverpool, in the late sixties, might have been 1970. Horrible little terraced house, that looked down on Anfield , a mile away. He was lodging with those neighbours. Remember him going out , boots over his shoulder, every Sunday. Hiya Dennis, was as far as it got.
Didn’t realise who he was , until I was about 40, when my brother mentioned it……
Villa captain, lifting the European cup, …….brilliant that. I obviously inspired the man….😮

Aston Villa was 11th in the 1981-82 league table when this team won European Cup..
So we cannot say Liverpool 05 & Chelsea 2012 were the worst team to ever won UCL although it was the different era

Take away the CL from NF and AV, those tiny insignificant teams do not deserve to have it.
