    It's easier too put the inges on the van first , especially the bottom one , has you can spin the inge tight with your spanner just stuck on the back nut

      Of course! That's genius. The tiny hole just doesn't allow for a socket. I spent ages just trying to get the bolt to align with the thread on the hinge. your tip makes more sense than the workshop manual, in fact!

    I need to do this for my van they are bent also and there is a gap at the bottom you can also see daylight through and get your fingers into, worried about security and heat loss. It's inspired me to get stuck in, great idea with the office chair, thanks Mevi.

      The workshop manual had the doors manuovered on some wild, wheeled crane contraption! Mick's idea for the chair was genius. 😄

    Thanks for this, it’s been a great help with my door and hinge swap. Got nice glazed ambulance doors on now, replacing my old solid doors with the big old hinges. I owe you a beer.

    (maybe i missed it in you video) but do you know where the door lamp switch is located? (the light sometimes goes on, sometimes not) Thanks in advance for any help.

    • @Mevi

      I don't know for sure. I think it is likely in the lock itself. I've not seen wires going to anywhere else around the back doors. They go into the rear doors through the real pillars.
      The side door is different, in that power and control to the lock comes through the contacts on the edge of the door.
      I haven't found sensors to detect the cab door is open.
      The only switches for the lights are on the lights themselves. I made a couple of videos where I disassembled the rear and cab lights. Their construction is quite simple. I suppose it is possible there is corrosion in the lights, or a faulty festoon bulb. These 2 videos show the lights disassembled. The first for the rear lights, the second for the cab.

      The van looked like it had maybe reversed into something. Both doors were bent out of shape.

    Great video. Did you not have to swap your driver sider door handle/lock since your key won't work in that door anymore?

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi  2 года назад

      I *still* have the entire handle, cables, AND badges from the original back doors. I planned to swap out the door lock at some stage, but haven't had the need. I believe there is no 'coding' required for the locks. Remote locking worked perfectly from the start with the new doors.

    Loving your videos, giving me lots of inspiration for my L4 Relay conversion. Quick question, I don't suppose you still have the steel round door buffers tucked away anywhere from when you converted the door hinges? I'm not having much luck finding any anywhere... I'd be happy to buy a couple off you. Cheers, Nick

      Thanks Nick! 😊😊The magnetic bumpers that are on the door, or the ones on the side of the van?
      The ones on the door went with the doors, I think. The ones on the side if the van are still bolted on the trim. I've not bothered taking them off as it's a wrestle to get the trim off with rusted bolts and those fragile panel clips.

    • @nickbentley1111
      @nickbentley1111 5 лет назад

      I think the magnetic bits are the same for each, it’s the plastic surround that differs. It’d be a pain removing yours as you need to access the mounting nut inside the skin of the van. If you see a couple on your travels let me know 👍🏻

      Aah, right. Yeah, they'll be buried under the walls now. I imagine that you could probably macgyver a solution. Have a look at this link. I used this strong rubber coated magnet for mounting a camera on the bonnet, but this might give you some ideas..

    Hey Mevi, great job on the new doors. I’ve just picked some up recently to do mine. Roughly how long did it take you to do them? Wondering if an eve after work is enough or to give myself a day on the weekend. Cheers! 👍

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi  3 года назад +1

      Me and Mick swapped them in a few hours... Maybe three? It's a while ago now. I swapped 270° for 180° doors, so I had to figure out the different mounting. If you're doing like for like, maybe you'll do it quicker. I'd say to allow more time. Tweaking the door alignment was the most time consuming part, I think.
      Perhaps you could fit and align one door and then you'll know if you have time to do the second?

    Hi there Mevi, I'm thinking of swapping my regular 180 hinges to 270 just so I can keep the back door open even when it's windy. Why did you decide against those 270 hinges? Thanks

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi  4 года назад

      Word is that the 270 hinges get more and more stiff until they fail or start to deform the door around where they bolt on.
      My own experience supported that. They were already stiff and oil just can't seem to penetrate the 270 hinge to prevent them seizing up.

    I need to replace my drivers side rear door on my Citroen relay, I'm just wondering if there were any electrics on the drivers side door that you had to mess around with and if so was it difficult or was it a case of just plugs?

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi  6 лет назад

      Just plugs - they can only connect one way, so that was the really easy bit. The loom terminates in the rear pillar, so look for a door that has the lock and loom with it. Stripping the old door would be no fun at all.... Probably most doors will come ready to hang. Mine also came with the hinges, but not all do. All the hinge adjustment is in the bolts attaching the hinge to the van.

      @@Mevi what do you mean by the loom?

    • @Mevi

      The loom is what a cable assembly is called. It'll be a few cables with plugs at each end.
