“‘The world definitely needs another ABBA cover!’ That must have gone through Hodi's head when he made a highly dubious bet on New Year's Eve 2021/22. If Memento Mori beats Voyage by ABBA in the German album charts, we will create a cover version! Hodi, as a self-confessed non-fan of the Swedish band, then had to admit two things to himself: Firstly, Memento Mori reached number 1, so he has to make the bet true. Secondly, the ABBA songs are not bad at all - quite the opposite! So listen to the folk metal version of ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ - I wonder if there was mead involved? Certainly. Salatio Mortis newest song Finsterwacht or My Mother told me cover in English and old Icelandic dialect. By the way, Finsterwacht is a collaboration with Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian, a legendary German power metal band. And deeper and deeper you descend...

The Blinding Lights cover is a must!
They were actually founded as a parody band to counterpart the (sometimes overly) serious medival folk scene. The early material is on the nose tongue in cheek with silly and/ or raunchy lyrics.
The original songs are usually in German (some Latin here and there) but in 2020 they started doing cover songs in English too (and in the case of the infamous Dragostea Din Tei aka the Numa Numa song, even Romanian).
Recently, they started to shorten their (ambiguous) stage names, as you saw them on the Napalm page:
Hauptmann Feuerschwanz (Captain Firetail/ slang translation Captain Firedick]) is the last remaining founding member,
Johanna von der Vögelweide (Joan of Birdswillow/ Joan of Screwmeadow),
Prinz Richard 'Hodi' Hodenherz III (Prince Richard Testicleheart),
Hans Der Aufrechte (Hans The Upright),
Jarne Hodinson (Jarne [outdated version of George] Testison),
Rollo Schönhaar (Rollo [outdated version of Wolf] Prettyhair), newest member as their drummer of 16 years, Sir Lanzeflott (Sir Lancequick) had left mid 2021,
Mieze Musch-Musch (Kitty Puss-Puss, "Mieze" refers to a cat but is also a slang term for girls just like "Chick" in English)
Mieze Myu (Kitty Meow, she was guest musician with her harp on a few of their songs).
Unspoken rule in regards to Feuerschwanz: we do not refer to people with their real names! (although those are no secrets)
My favourite original is Untot im Drachenboot (Undead on the Dragon Boat), it's one of the songs they've translated for the Warriors album: Death on the Dragon Ship.

My most favourite band 😭❤️
2019, I was in a dark place. I wasnt myself anymore. My partner one day sent me, randomly, their cover of 'Ding' thinking i'd like it and ... it just woke something inside me. I couldn't get enough and it led me on a journey of not only discovering the German music scene but rediscovering myself. Feuerschwanz helped me become myself again and one day Ill meet them and thank them properly. Even if i have to fly all the way to Germany 🇩🇪from Australia.
Through them I've discovered just about every band i listen to now.
Ben Metzner, who sings for Feuerschwanz, also has a band called dArtagnan. I've just come from the premiere of the release of their latest song. That's Musketeers and Rock/Metal. They did this latest vampire style 🧛♂️ song with Melissa Bonny, Queen of Metal, who also starred in that song Ding.
Ben is also married to Momo (Svenja) Indigo who does a lot of the video and photography work plus costumes for the bands. She is utterly incredible and I admire her so much. Sometimes i think id love to meet her more than the band. She is so talented.
Hans and Jenny from Feuerschwanz are also in another band with Melissa Bonny and her Husband, Morten Loewe Sorensen, of Amaranthe fame. That group is called The Dark Side of the Moon. 🌙 🌚
They are all such beautifully kind people and I've spoken to them on social media quite often. Plus their stage crew are incredible as well.
Even though i don't speak much German, i love it in German. Their new Album in English is incredible of course but i do love the German. That's just me though. It's helped me re learn all the German i studied while at school.

Feuerschwanz is a rabbit hole you should dive into... went to their show last week and it was fantastic.
They do so much more than covers, most songs are in german, but especially the new album "Warriors" is in english.
To get a good taste of their older and newer stuff, try "Metfest", "Ultima Nocte", "Untod im Drachenboot", "Knochenkarussel" and "Fegefeuer".
There are so many other brilliant songs...
I am absolutely going down this rabbit hole. I love everything about this group and this is gonna be fun!

Hehehehe. I just saw them live a week ago. Honestly I just wanted to see Hans Platz play live, because that dude's guitar playing kicks ass. Somehow I allowed my friend (who had never been to a metal concert before) to talk me into traveling through half of Germany to go see Feuerschwanz in a sold out venue in Wiesbaden with her. I mostly go to power metal bands, so it was a, uh, different experience. They are a lot of fun, and beyond all the costumes and stage names and pyro, you have a group of very talented musicians! My favourite song: Memento Mori, both the original German and the new English version.
Hans and Jenny Diehl (a.k.a Myu) are in the supergroup The Dark Side of the Moon, together with Melissa Bonny and Morten Løwe Sørensen, most of their songs are covers of film and TV music. I actually listened to this project before I listened to Feuerschwanz. Check it out if you have the time!

Awesome reaction :) Now it might be time for some of their original stuff :) They released an all-English album as a gift to their international fans last week, where they translated some of their most successful songs of all time. For Highlander, War Dwarf and Valhalla Calling they already released videos as well.

Another great german medieval Metal band , wth videos like films, is Saltatio Mortis. They play on the same type of festivals . They made also on of the versions from Hypa Hypa with Electric Callboy.

Oh man you've only just discovered Feuerschwanz?! You've just entered yet another deep rabbit hole. They're brilliant and way too much fun. Their own songs are brilliant, often in their own German language, but they've done loads of covers too. They covered The Final Countdown by Europe, it's brilliant and the melody sounds like a Kazoo lol.

Giime Gimme Gimme came to be due to a bet with the fans. They promised to do an ABBA cover if their album, Memento Mori, enters the charts at no1.. and it did. So they fulfilled their promise. I love this band to death and have all their albums. Hans is one of the most underrated guitarist today in my opinion, he is amazing.

Hans also plays guitar in The Dark Side Of The Moon and Jenny/Myu plays harp for Dark side as well (Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum) and Morten Lowe (Amaranthe) is doing the vocal and drum duties there).

Nice reaction. But you want to know what a hurdy-gurdy is? Well, you will find it in Folk-/piratemetal quite often. The best videos to explain that instrument are on the youtube-channel of Patty Gurdy, who is btw a good friend to Feuerschwanz and feat. in a song on their new album as well. But I propose to you another song to watch/hear that instrument in a different sub-genre, where you wouldn't find a hurdy-gurdy usually: Prog-metal.
