My renovation tip would be to replace your lightbulbs sooner rather than later so you can see what the rooms actually look like. That way you make your selections in accurate lighting. Those bulbs look very warm (low Kelvin number) and not very bright (low lumen number). I think 3500-4000 Kelvin would brighten up the space and you’d probably want the bulbs to be at least 800 lumens. So excited to follow along on your process!

A suggestion for the Jenny King couches. Have one where the sherpa chairs are and then move those chairs infront of the window/door. The two big couches makes the room smaller, but you can utilize one of them!

Can’t wait to see what y’all do with the cabin. We had our white oak floors refinished and they turned out amazing BUT it’s the biggest mess. You will not ever be prepared for the amount of dust left behind. Hire a cleaning crew. Every surface of every room will need wiped down after!

Dealing with grief and moving at the same time was overwhelming. But I survived! And so are you because your taste is impeccable. Have fun!

I completely understand the aspect of having a cabin as your “everyday home” or your “holiday home”!!
I’m just thinking out loud and stepping in with some ideas, but maybe:
- I would try to match the floors, ceiling and wall beams in a dark wood, trying to neutralize the “orangeness”.giving it a cohesive deep dark warmth.
- maybe doing the inside doors, door frames, and wall skirtings in white to brighten up the spaces and make the ceiling look taller. Maybe the windows? (Not sure..!) All through out the cabin for cohesiveness. With the newly stained woods it would allow your own different wood furniture (different finishes and colors) and decor to stand out
- in the first entrance living space it would maybe be cool to match the color of the cement between the wall beams to the wall paint color to create a horizontal stripe pattern look across the room and lengthen it. I feel it would allow to add more creativity in terms of textures and patterns to the space.
- the kitchen do your thing!! 🤪😍
- in the second living room space with the 2 built ins I would probably paint them in a greige color to add a bit of contrast with the white and add a nice wall paper inside the shelves! Like a nice textured wall paper or a stripe or motif or something…

I am sorry to hear about the your grandmother. I will say a prayer for your family. Everyone handles grief and loss in their own way. There is no right or wrong way to do it, the thoughts and emotions can come and go in waves, and there isn’t a timeline.

I think more people need to have conversations about death, loss, grief (which for many includes honoring and celebrating this that have died).

Ugh my husband and I sanded and stained our floors in our last house and honestly it is not worth it ESPECIALLY if you’re living in the house. Even after the floors are don’t the dust doesn’t stop coming out of the vents and little areas around the house… it’s honestly awful! I think it’s awesome to try to keep them and to explore all options but honestly probably the same cost to replace them and you can still get a similar look to the existing ones!
