@@kenroberts9082 I think it's so beautiful because it gives you that sense of adventure and danger that we humans crave in the art we consume because we don't find that in our day-to-day anymore. It's something primal, something sacred. I think we're so drawn to stuff like simply because it's in our nature to be. Not to mention that the song itself is as deep as the concept it talks about. It's so haunting, and that makes it exciting.
My Dad would sing this song all of the time. He and my ancestors were all quite the seasoned mariners.
Much respect to all who are out there risking their lives on the seas….especially The North Sea.

Given that it’s been two weeks since she sank… I would assume they too have been claimed by the sea.

I have the utmost respect for the men and women who make their living on the high seas. She can change at a moment's notice from calm to chaos and you're at her mercy. I was on the ocean only a couple of times but she can go from mild to mean. To those that ply their trade on the oceans of the world, you have some of the hardest jobs out there.

Women? Where? It is extremely rare for women to take a job that isn't comfy and prestigious in perception.
And usually they really struggle with jobs that are dangerous and physical.

@RaptorTroll360 Lol go outside and you'd find them buddy. There's hundreds of women working harsh jobs like the sea, military, construction, etc. My own mother and grandmother included.
Even in history there's been a number of female ship captains among vikings and pirates. One of my favorites is Zheng Yi Sao, who was a prostitute that married a pirate captain but was treated as his equal and took over his fleets when he died. She commanded over 40,000 pirates and was reported to be a good captain, and died at the ripe age of 68.

My husband works on a boat that goes up and down the Norwegian coast line, over to Denmark and over the North Sea both to Iceland and to the Faroe Islands.
It is extremely worrying, at least for me. He has done this for 20 years and by god, nothing breaks that man. He is made of something else❤

My Great Uncle left his family farm in Norway during the 19th century and signed on as cabin boy to a sailing vessel. He left years later as a Ship's Carpenter and immigrated through Ellis Island to New York. A few years later he traveled to help settle Michigan's Upper Peninsula during the logging and mining Era. I never heard any stories of his seafaring life, because I was a toddler and he was in his 80s, but he did it for 20 years in the waning days of sail and tall ships. Wow.

@janedoex1398 I was in the Navy. I spent a lot of time underway in the Atlantic. I do not recommend, to much politics to it. Ironically, going out to sea is the only thing I miss.

My dad, maternal grandfather, and maternal uncle are all retired Navy, with 60+ years of service combined. Ex Navy. My entire 4 year hitch excluding boot camp was spent on an amphibious assault combat ship. 3 med cruises, one to Gitmo and one above the arctic circle, plus various other exercises. The earth’s oceans ain’t nothing to play with.

I sing tenor and bass, and used to be in a Christian Youth Choral group back in the early 1990s. This song would've been a great lung- expansion exercise for the guys and the one girl who sang tenor.
