His front engine is not working, that is why he's got no traction and gets stuck. With both motors runing this type of tractors can pull some serious loads.
plenty of blowby there .My dad had one about 40 years ago. Dead easy to re ring or replace the liners and keep them in service. We even had one of those engines in a boat.
amazing tractors these, the first tractor over 100hp in the uk,very few left as most were stripped back to 2 tractors and sold off as no one wanted them
I remember going round the "Royal Show" at Stoneleigh, when I was nipper and seeing them on the Ford stand, new ones! Never understood how they got the front and back end to co ordinate with gears and speed
Fantastic piece of kit.Love it. Hope they show it as is and don't restore it. And that left rear tyre is holding air after years of sitting flat. Great.
+joseph migliore not exactly hillbilly many tandem tractor kits were made in the 40s-60s for many brand tractors for pulling larger implements when the largest tractors available were 3-4 plow tractors. of course there were the home made ones made from junk yard parts.
At 1.48 must be something wrong with the clutch why turn off the tractor to put it in gear, I'm just curious Lovely tractor we have a diesel major with loader still in work clothes runs like a clock
***** Thank you. That makes sense. The tractor was backing out fairly well in my opinion, considering; it was in very slippery sticky mud, the lugs on directional tires don't clean out properly in reverse, the lugs were worn down to provide hardly any benefit, and running on one engine pulling the weight of two tractors. THAT is four (4) separate challenges all simultaneously combined to hamper the result on a tractor that has been sitting for 30 years. GIMME A BREAK. If any single one of these handicaps was removed , That triple D would have reversed straight away. I grew up on a farm. International, and Ford tractors, Allis Chalmers(Gleaner) combine.
John J Kelly , As I have just recently discovered these wonderful creations , I had to look it up. In the 1950's George Pryor of Essex would buy two Fordsons and connect them to double the drawbar pull. Local Fordson dealer Earnest Doe and sons, worked with Pryer and introduced the Doe Dual Drive tractor in 1958. Called the "Triple D" We were both right ! And now we know , the rest of the story. Be Well, my good man.
John J Kelly just one more thing. A very clever bloke in Austrailia took two "Chamberlain" tractors and made the behemoth of all pulling tractors. It must be 40 feet long or more. He is just guessing what it might weigh, and how much it will pull, but by all means Google it. I guess the fields in Au. are gigantic going for miles and miles, so he made this to get it done quicker. Beautiful Bright Orange Behemoth.
easiest and cheapest way to get a large 4x4 tractor. most tractors were no larger than 70 horsepower those days and almost all where 2 wheel drive so they made these kits to combine two smaller tractors into a big one.
+Toms Chevelle I had a good chuckle about that too, but it became quite evident that the front was not running. The front would provide more traction by itself than the rear in that setup.
+roomba thats because its two tractors hucked together, thus basically a first gen articulated tractor. Double the tractor, double the power. Most were factory made, some people decided to take matters into their own hands
Come on mate ........ think about it slowly ....... which is going to be cheaper to make overall , 1 "tractor " with two engines or 1 tractor with a single larger engine & conventional 4 wheel drive . This was a pragmatic answer to a technology / marketing & supply problem . It was things like the Muir Hill that broke the water shed & this was one of the "logical" stop gaps ....... Rome was not built in a day .
Very nice old tractor !! Great candidate for a Big restoration project. Pretty awesome just the way it is though. Thanks For Sharing !!
I would love it in my collection, good video.

First time I've seen one - slick! I'd like to sit up front and be driven home after the pub, "Home James..." (I bet I'd toss my salad.)
love videos like this.. its amazing that some things will start up and drive after sitting so long.
initialB 240 exactly! thank god that you understand!!
Very impressive , so much more interesting than a John Deer .

worth a lot of money even in that state.
There was huge advantage building this type of tractor. Very cost and work effective solution in those days...
BM Volvo was often used in Denmark
Must have been fun making that old beauty tun! :)
James Carter densho
amazing tractors these, the first tractor over 100hp in the uk,very few left as most were stripped back to 2 tractors and sold off as no one wanted them
Woah, that thing is crazy!!
Nice Tandem!
Some serious "dough" Doe there.

Hillbilly ingenuity right there, boys!!
+joseph migliore It's stock actually!
+EngineEngineer I realize that now after reading up on it today. Pretty darn cool!!

That´s just awesome! I am fairly jealous i have to say that :P

nice! is it Fordson Major Twins?
this thing is crazy awesome it looks like something from a syfy steam punk movie
old girl ready for some TLC. :)
Cant imagine the electronics to make that today
why was it spinning coming out?. I know it was wet, but it was relatively level.
BEYOND the THUNDERDOME ! (where's Mel?)
Throughout bearing is shot eh? Impressive that it still starts in gear.
Fordson super major is very strong tractors
Running on just the rear engine?
Now do a Barrel Roll. Press B!
Could not leave that one alone. Sorry folks!
Finnish Valmet manufactured tandem tractors for Finnish army..somewhere 70's
What happened with this old girl did it get restored?
How come only one engines going?
banditpete12 30 years of only standing still!
OMG. Monster
i thought that would be smoking like a fire after 30 years....
Hi is this tractor going to be sold by h.j pugh on october 6th (tomorrow) ?
fuckin luv it!
worth around 30 grand done up.
This particular one was sold as-is for 60k £. Fully restored they go for around 100k £
Rare tractor, building two tractors to one. Probably this was a cheap way to make a fourwheel drive tractor.
Frankentractor!!!
u shud have had both engines going, i am surprised it was spinning so much!?!
Only 230 Triple D's made
Not many of those left tin the world. Even in that condition they are 80,000 to 110,000 $.
4 wheel drive and can hardly pull itself out of the barn - possibly only one engine running?
I wonder If you could "bump start" the second engine. (if it was in proper order to run)

On a 'Need to Know' basis, I don't need to know that, thanks all the same

what i want to know is why you would do this on a wet day like this
don't know as they have to many sunny dry days over there!
Doe Traktor
fordson
Clutch is stuck.
Looks nimble....or
why are that made out of 2 tractors
Because
because russians? acahalics git at a tractor blueprint or...

OHH kool
that is a weird tractor
Without the front tractor working is useless. Is just pulling/pushing dead weight.
Its interesting to see but a tractor that gets itself stuck just coming out of the bar, not sure how useful
that is.
He's only running 1 engine so its just pulling dead weight
+Toms Chevelle I had a good chuckle about that too, but it became quite evident that the front was not running. The front would provide more traction by itself than the rear in that setup.
Weird looking tractor for sure.

Kenzie Beaton
Yes. At first I, like at least one other viewer, thought the first tractor was pulling out an old broken one. LOL
Yeh that's a "fantastic bit of kit," OK. Put it BACK in the barn, QUICK
.
The fuck is this thing?
tats why they are all wheel weights a pile off shite over rated prices no wonder they stopped make them

piece of junk, not really, just not as useful today versus when it was new.
theres only like 300 of them left in the world they are worth 100s of thousands
+Justin Noker fart
