    A lot of the footage is from the Ulster GP, it’s about 5 miles from my house and I have been on serval occasions, my uncle used to race in these and done the Isle of Man a few times , it is a full lap they average around 130 mph (yes average ) around the Ulster GP , even watching these events is very scary but an unbelievable experience, thanks for the reaction.

    The final races of the 2024 TT are 6/08/24 (tomorrow]. There was a Dr John Hinds who raced and developed a harness of a chest pack and a Back Back and 4 leg packs. That a DR, He mostly would follow the first lap of the race and then pull into the pits and wait for the call of an accident and he would race out of the pits at racing speeds to the scene of the accident to provide 1st responder to racers, corner flag people and fans. There are many videos of him on U-tube with him giving talks about treating motorcycle crash patients. He was so laid back and funny in these presentations. IN 1 at the end of a lectures he show a pic of a racer at his first race after losing right leg below the knee. So he had two prosthetic legs, one for walking and one for racing his bike. Whats he doing in the pic? Sitting on a plastic 120 Gallon container of aviation fuel a big smile on his face and a lit cigarette in his hand. Dr Hinds was killed on a race weekend responding to a crash where he also crashed losing his life. Motorcyclists and race fans showed up from all of Ireland, The Isle Of Mann, and the UK for his funeral. Like in multiple 1000's.

    They do laps and normally it is a practice/qualifying day and then a race day but they don't have much practice (about 10-15 minutes so about 4-ish laps) before qualifying which is roughly the same. Race days in Ireland are normally on Saturdays, not Sundays and that is because of some teams and riders not racing Sundays because of the Sabbath. Isle of Man is a bit more lax in the racing Sundays so you do have it there. Southern 100 in Isle of Man is actually during the week (Monday-Thursday).

      But they do know the track from previous years and you can of course go ride the roads basically all year. They know every corner, every bump, every road marking that is a factor. For the main events at least they even know which places have shades which dry up slower, etc.

    • @paulmaxey6377
      @paulmaxey6377 3 месяца назад

      @@pistonburner6448 True if you have rode there before, but if you are a newcomer and it's your first time it's still not long to learn the track. obviously with it being a public road you can go a day or so earlier and just do 'laps' in a car or on a bike so you at least know where the track goes. So entering as many races as possible helps also as it means more track time, especially if it's your first time. But yes you are correct that the course is the same every year, so once you learn it you know it and you can concentrate on just set up.

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 3 месяца назад +1

      @@paulmaxey6377 I'm not sure at all but I thought that newcomers might join in on the practice sessions but then not race, or join the race but take it easy and not compete at full effort. I understood that riders kind of progress up to the top competing riders after a few years of "practice-competing" and learning before going full-on at the front of the pack. I might be wrong, but that's how I thought it goes.

    • @paulmaxey6377
      @paulmaxey6377 3 месяца назад

      @@pistonburner6448 Like all racers newcomers can always go at their own pace and there is Qualifying but as far as I know they can enter any race. They just have to wear a orange bib if they are new to pure road racing. Maybe if they are new to that circuit also they might have to wear a bib. They might also have a controlled lap if it is their first time there, I know they do for NW200, Ulster GP and TT. The TT it is one controlled lap and then you are out with the rest of them. Cam Donald said in a interview on the TT Plus website podcast that at his first race on the Irish roads he turned up and asked someone where the race track was and they said "You are on it.". I think he said he did quite well. I think some, if not all, of them prefer you to do some short circuit racing and to a good level before they even allow you on the roads now. Especially with the cost of insurance now. For NW200 I think it is in the 100's of thousands of pounds just for the insurance because they really struggled to have any racing at all in Ireland last year.

    In this same vein of speed you should check out some of the illegal "pro" street squids that do this sort thing on public highways with traffic on the roads. Not as fast as some of this stuff but it's out on open normal roads. A good spot to start would be some of the stuff by Ghostrider the real one and more recently also his son Junior doing car stuff. Crazy warm up is a good one with both of them. There seems to be a lot that come out of Sweden supposedly due to some strange law about having to be caught same day.

    When bikes cant get any faster out of mechanical grip and engine power, these racers start improving times studying and perfecting their racing lines, with approach tolerances getting shorter and shorter. The only way to stay competitive is cutting time/distance wherever they can, and IoM Racing Week is their only chance until madness start again the next year. And thats probably why it keeps getting faster every passing year, even when motorbike/ tire technology doesnt evolve much for some years. MotoGP is not peak bike racing, IoM is, and lots of lives were lost to keep that edge.
