Songwriting just doesn't get better than this. Literate yet unpretentious. Complex but accessible. Perfectly crafted, but still overwhelmingly passionate and genuine.
The Temptation of Adam is like, right up there for me with all the great art works that have stuck with me. I mean right up there with the classics. Lovely lovely haunting poem and beautiful song. Love it Josh, good for you 👏👏👏
Walked into my old local record store one day Josh was playing over the speakers,I asked who's playing, glad I did, I have been a fan ever since. You know it was a while back record stores no longer exist.Good luck,Josh, may you have good health and continued success.
I can't think of any other performer who seems as contented as Josh Ritter. His joy and sincerity are infectious. I hope to at least open for him someday.
There is no better talent on this earth. Continue rockin' forever, Josh! You know we love you! Never quit grinning either - it sincerely brings me pure joy! Hope to see you again soon!!
a girl i love introduced me to his amazing music. . were not as close as i wish we could be anymore. i love his music but i think bout those days with her every time i hear any of ritters songs. makes it hard for me to like him truthfully anymore without thinking about those days. .....
Thats the best part the memories It's the telepathy if art aka the best beautiful best part You can relive those happy magical days whenever ya want Just listen to our man here the master poet
I have faith that there will be zero "dislikes" even if you don't care for the music, this guy is the genuine thing, happy to be doing what he's doing and appreciative the whole time.
I started listening to Josh Ritter 10+ years ago. I still have my original 'Golden Age Of Radio" CD with its original paper case. I recently had it framed as a reminder of my transition from what I was "supposed" to like in music and what I really liked. I spent a good majority of my younger years alone in my musical preferences. The people I grew up around did not understand it and made fun of me for listening to Indie, Experiemental, ETC.
Alright I admit it - I am a groupie - can watch this over and over (and I have, as I get the npr tiny desk concert podcasts) - Josh is a poet and a master tunesmith
First heard Josh on a cd attached to a magazine from the UK. Such an easy picking style and thought provoking lyrics. Real music to listen to. Hope to see him in Australia some day.
"And I would only need one pin to show where my loves at... In a top secret location 300 ft under the ground" That line is epic. I always laugh when I hear it.
I like that he has a sense of seriousness about him, but he is smiling most of the time so that lets us know that he doesn't take himself too seriously! I dig him.
+Gregory Jackson I first heard of him watching videos of Violinists (being a classical music lover) and came across a concert he did with Hilary Hahn. He played Girl in the War and Oak Tree King. The second one is not one I've heard him play since then, so check it out if you can. Amazing.
I love his snarky Valentine's comment. I think a lot of us feel the same. My ex and I purposely divorced on Valentine's day bc we thought it would be a hilarious way to play out our already played out relationship. No one else was getting a divorce that day and we were in and out of the courthouse in such record time that our parking was free. The best part was when we rounded the front there were hundreds of people lined up to get married. We high fived and made our final vow: that no matter what, we will always be cooler than "those" people.

Songwriting just doesn't get better than this. Literate yet unpretentious. Complex but accessible. Perfectly crafted, but still overwhelmingly passionate and genuine.
I watched this video for the first time 10 years ago and still haven't gotten tired of it. He's a special kind of songwriter.
The Temptation of Adam is like, right up there for me with all the great art works that have stuck with me. I mean right up there with the classics. Lovely lovely haunting poem and beautiful song. Love it Josh, good for you 👏👏👏
It is IMPOSSIBLE to watch him play, and not smile. He just gets so much joy from what he does, it's infectious.

Perfectly expressed thank you:)

Animal Years just might be my favorite album ever. Josh is a special human being.
One of the best living lyricists. A true story teller
I can't think of any other performer who seems as contented as Josh Ritter. His joy and sincerity are infectious. I hope to at least open for him someday.
Mathew Grigsby amen
As a fellow singer/songwriter, I really look up to Josh. He has a way of luring you in...and that's a special gift. :)
There is no better talent on this earth. Continue rockin' forever, Josh! You know we love you! Never quit grinning either - it sincerely brings me pure joy! Hope to see you again soon!!
I really like how much thanks he gives for those who came out to watch him. So sincere.
Eric Kluge Definitely a humble man. Such a great performer.
I saw him years ago at Austin City Limits. I went to get his autograph afterwards and he hugged me. He's such a nice guy!
almost as though he's embarrassed. He's the best just absolutely the best
It's fitting that there hasn't been one person who has watched this and not liked it, because Josh Ritter is incredible.
Songs with lyrics that make you want to cry. Such a great songwriter and still humble. He's the kind of person each of us wish we knew. Thanks, Josh.

I'm the same but she introduced me to the beatles, so it's fairly hard to escape them memories.

MrFeyerwire I complete understand this. I still try to introduce Ritters music to people and only a few appreciate it. To each his own I guess.
"One More Mouth" is the first song I heard from this guy. I barely heard it today; it's probably one of my favorite songs, ever.
i am in love with the first song like actually in love
+Gviana Goldberg Me too!!! Have heard it maybe an hundred times and may never get enough of it!
I must have seen this video a hundred times since my Idahoan buddy introduced me to it. Can't get over how great it is!
A true troubadour. An artist of exceptional gifts.
his smile at the end of the songs always brings a smile to my face
The Temptation of Adam...such a great song.
I'm glad that I am leaning about him here in 2022, very unique songs.. there's definitely dylan inspiration to him.
That little smile he smiles when he plays.. Priceless :)
He seems like such a sweetheart! Great concert!
SO EXCITED to hear his new album w/ Jason Isbell producing!
Nice picking and great vocals .. very uplifting 🎶
Beautiful and thoughtful songs. Inspiring smile.

Alright I admit it - I am a groupie - can watch this over and over (and I have, as I get the npr tiny desk concert podcasts) - Josh is a poet and a master tunesmith
Never heard much of him. I’ll change that. Excellent.
Lark is such a beautiful song.
no seriously, music like this could actually be a great contributing factor to world peace
Beautiful.
Love the acoustic version of Rattling Locks!
Helluva song, maybe his best
I wish he had sung Another New World, that songs amazing
amazing musician beautiful songs magical voice
Why can't we just buy these specific recordings from these concerts? half the time they are better than the album versions
For real, I hope whoever does the mixing is paid well

Josh Ritter, I enjoyed this very much. NPR, kudos on tiny desk in general.
I hear quite a bit of Paul Simon too, especially on Lark.
"And I would only need one pin to show where my loves at... In a top secret location 300 ft under the ground" That line is epic. I always laugh when I hear it.
ten years ago now! amazing
Thank you for such an intimate and lovely concert :)
Made my day, josh is amazing and I can't stop smiling!
First saw Josh in a room with about 15 ppl in Seattle. Was sold from the first note!
Brilliant... what a kind soul....
I love musicians who can still discover new things in the music they wrote. This is it.
I like that he has a sense of seriousness about him, but he is smiling most of the time so that lets us know that he doesn't take himself too seriously! I dig him.
I first heard of Josh by reading his novel 'Bright's Passage' which is a great read. The guy can write!
Same here!
+Gregory Jackson I first heard of him watching videos of Violinists (being a classical music lover) and came across a concert he did with Hilary Hahn. He played Girl in the War and Oak Tree King. The second one is not one I've heard him play since then, so check it out if you can. Amazing.
+Gregory Jackson
I was hoping there would be a sequel.
I may read it again!
I think I read Josh was an English major, and taught English, great story teller and song writer.

Sounds like you and your ex are good friends.
that's a wayyyy better love story than most cheesy love stories one hears
Almost sounds like you were made for each other.
Man, this is so nice
so fantastic.
Beautiful version of Kathleen
Yes, this Kathleen agrees with you!

roberta (a Dubliner)👞
Great performance.
he laughed because he messed up on the lyrics, i love it too though, seems like a happy memory.
i've watched this video an ungodly amount of times
Why have I not heard you. Awesome!
Ha! He gets mixed up on the choruses just like I do when playing this :-) JR is the best, and a treat to see in concert if you get the chance.
I love this show!
Well, you made me smile! :D
beautifully said
Love the David Wax Museum hat on the shelf
there's something about this guy. before he even opened his mouth i knew he was special
Perfect explanation...
Art. ♡
This guys awsome love the songs man
now this guy can write.
Best modern singer-songwriter. Kinda like today's Paul Simon/Bob Dylan mix.
yea he just kinda chuckles, moves to the right line, and goes on all smooth like
he keeps his eyes open so wide all the time.
He keeps his eyes closed the majority. of the time.
Amazing. I now know why Richard Shindell covered one of your songs Josh.
You're the coolest guy I know.
God I love him
Josh Ritter is 1 of my favorite artist. Like Sonic youth he's not Super super popular but is super talented. Modern day Dlyan
Reppin the 208 with the Idaho Spud pin... I like it.
josh ritter for life
Pure genius.
standard I'm pretty sure. capo 7th fret
verse: C, G, B7, Em, G, D, C, G

i put my laptop on my bed and sat on my floor with oreos and milk pretending i was there.
I like how he phrases a little like John Prine.
I know I'm seven years too late but he toured with John Prine, probably picked a few things up :)
Listen to Paul Simon's "Duncan." Now, can't you can't hear it underneath Ritter's "The Tempation of Adam"?
his face makes me warm and fuzzy inside
Very nice.
Can someone please organize the CDs behind Josh? It's really messing with my OCD.
Mad skillZ!!!
@drusef - He actually seems almost giddy with Happiness:>)
Me and Jiggs, PBS concert with Joan Baez...now I'm Here
I am reminded of Cat Stevens. And, it is good.
Amazing
He should play at the Kate wolf festival
You can hear alot if Dylan in his music
In the second song his phrasing sounds somewhat like Paul Simon.
@artfella28 its because he messed up, he said that the last verse but he played it off so smoothly
I didn't notice. perhaps because he didn't stop and say "Oh boy, aren't I silly, I messed up a line!"
When I think of my crappy Saxophoneplay I can only be jealous to see him dipping in another world doing this...greeeat
my idol
Sometimes the righteous win. Most times it's a losing battle. Ain't that the truth. Peace.
I think he even inspires himself
Distracted by the Master P action figure, chillin in the back!
