This $12 part on Amazon did the trick for me. P6R8MC OR4040. I’ve found the last part of that does not matter, just make sure to get P6R8MC; they’re all the same. Fixed my old Haier mini fridge I’ve had since new in 2004. This was my first problem ever! And it went for months unused because I didn’t know this could be a fix. It just wouldn’t turn on at all. Plug it up and up the thermostat… nothing. Now we’re so happy to have the mini fridge in the basement again! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was on the verge of tossing my fridge in the trash and found your tutorial. I purchased the relay on Amazon for 9 bucks, followed your instructions, and it took 5 minutes for my fridge to be up and running again!
Just wanted to say that my mini fridge did indeed stop turning on. I bought the overload relay kit from Amazon for 11$ and I was back in business. Thanks!
I just want to say thank you thank you thank you for this video!! My mother in laws refrigerator just randomly stopped blowing cold air but it was still blowing air. I replaced the part you showed me in this video and as soon as i plugged the refrigerator in, I heard the compressor kicked in and it started blowing cold air! I'm not sure the name of the part, but all you have to do is take the part out and take it to any appliance repair store and they will know what it is. My mother in law was just about to spend 1400 on a new fridge but instead paid 10 bucks and the fridge works like new :)
I just replace this part starter relay for 7 bucks and it started working like normal i found this mini fridge on the side of the road for free so im excited thanks for this video :)
I also found my mini fridge on the side of the road... but I have not purchased this part, my mini fridge makes a click close to the compresor (i guess its the relay). Did you guys had the same experience?
Hey man, I'd like to thank you for making this video. My next door neighbour had a Danby mini fridge on the curb so I brought into my garage. I asked him if it works and he said no, so I took it back out to the curb. He told me he found it on the curb elsewhere only to find it didn't work when he got it home. I thought about it for a second time, and went back and grabbed it again. I scoured the interweb for troubleshoots and found this video. Hoping it wasn't the compressor that was fucked, I picked up a new relay. Boom, fridge fixed! You're awesome, thanks again!
You've probably helped over 250,000 people fix there refrigerator from watching this video! I'm Going to get the part now! Very much thanks and appreciation for this video!
I spent only $4.99 for the new relay and now my fridge is working again. I'm so happy and lucky that i found out this video. Thank you sooo much, i appreciate this!
I think you want to replace the exact part# from your fridge. He called it a thermostat but the package clearly says “relay”. It’s a relay switch for the condenser and all fridges have them. Take it off to shop with and you can be sure it matches, or you can show a sales rep.
Thanks for posting. There appears to be two different scenarios with fridges (freezers) not working. 1) the fridge suddenly stops working ... where the fix is likely to be (or related to) the solution shown here. 2) the fridge gradually loses its ability to cool, which could be more expensive if it's compressor related (other than just more refrigerant needed in an older appliance).
This fix worked. Ordered part, installed just like the video. I was going to throw the fridge out but decided to try the $10 part to see if it worked. Thanks for the video !
What you replaced isn't a rheostat. It's a relay. Relay used a small wire for energising a coil, in which in return it closes a circuit to allow either a ground to run through or a hot lead. In other words its a electromagnetic switch. Thank you for your video, I'm attempting to fix a fridge today.
Our full size Galanz fridge just lost all electricity, no lights, no LED display, no cooling. Do you think it could be a rheostat or a relay. Seems the original problem in the video is that cooling stopped, not that the whole electricity died. (We did reset the breaker / all the breakers, and plugged it into a different outlet, so its not the house power.) TIA!

@@SChome100 It's called a fridge start relay. If you find a tutorial on how to open up your fridge and take this part out of it, the way you can check if it is bad or not is to shake it. When turned on, the compressor starts its normal sound, and water dripping sound through the radiator can be heard from the interior of the fridge and freezer (as in normal refrigerator start up). I searched online for several testing techniques, almost all are the same. There are three probes in the compressor: C, M and S (where C is the top one and M,S are side ways). The resistance check between C-M=40.56, C-S=44.34, and M-S=84.9 ohms. So theoretically, it looks alright, as M-S = (C-S) + (C-M). But the ohm reading examples on the internet are 4, 6 and 10 ohms. May be different types of compressors have different resistant readings. However, the continuity check is a bit ambiguous. Would you be able to show me how to hook up the wires on a Galanz GLR76TBKER I removed the wires and the relay but I dont remember which wire goes where. I took a picture for you but dont know how to upload it to you.
If this doesn't fix it any suggestions on what to do next? The old one was bad when I shook it you could hear it rattling, but when I replaced it, still didn't work.
If i don't have like you changed new one plug what can i do ? I can join direct ware please ?
Good video - what did you do first to determine that this part was the one that needed replacement ? I mean how did you debug this was broke ?
But nevertheless, good commentary and nice description and thought to help out others who are stuck like this .
Shashi Kiran he’s basically just guessing and no trouble shooting, going off a “ common problem “.
What is the part called?😕
