Yes you can ask about GA position. But it’s advisable you apply to them after you have gotten admission.

GA mean Graduate assistant! It can also be called Teaching Assistant or Graduate Student Instructor for PhD students. This is when graduate students both Masters or PhD students are hired!!

Your grade is not the only factors that will be considered for scholarship. Other factors include your leadership experience, your research experience, extracurricular activities etc

You write a mail about GA to the professor after you have gotten your admission.
If you are applying for Fall 2025, the best time to start depend on the school you are looking to apply to. For example University of Michigan application start September but my school application start around Jan/Feb. But Generally I will say September 2024. This will give you time to write exam, write required Tests, get your transcript, search for schools and scholarships.

Do you send cold emails to profs before or after gaining admission?
I sent the first email to my graduate cordinator asking if the department has GA after I submitted my application . They informed me that they did. But after I got my admission , I sent a follow up email on the GA. But if you are sending an email to a professor you will want to work with as a GA, send the email after you have gotten the admission.
I got Graduate Assistant position for spring summer semester due not getting visa appointment date i deferred my admission to fall semester, can i get a deferral for the GTA? What should I do?
The best person that can answer this was your Graduate coordinator. I had the same issue when I deferred my admission. I sent an email to my Graduate Advisor/Cordinator and she said that my deferment will not affect my GA. So please send an email about your concern to your Graduate coordinator.

Scholarship is not necessarily a GA. Graduate Assistantship and scholarship are different form of funding
