  • Today i will have a look at one of the best games of ESL Dallas.
    I will take a deep dive into what made Serral win in his lategame on oceanborn vs Oliveira.
    I am convinced most other Zergs would've lost from his position so i was intrigued by this game and went over alot of small details that lead to Serral's eventual victory!

    Awesome content! I love this type of long form analysis where we pause and consider the overall situation and how players choose to move armies around and make decisions. I could watch 8 hours straight of this from you! Only thing I'd love even more is something like finding multiple games where Serral is playing the same style and talk about the overarching themes for how he plays the style which are independent from the map or opponent.

    I find it funny that serral is the first to do it and only so recently with the forward base mining to starve the opponent, as metal leaguers have been saying to do that for years i feel, at least i have.
    Also, it feels like oliviera is just maybe a bit too nervous or perhaps just a bit overwhelmed which makes him miss moving the mines and tanks forward? Maybe it's also a conscious decision because serral used to run lings by so often in their scrims? ^^

  • @OnigoroshiZero

  • @asdfasdf-mn8iu
    @asdfasdf-mn8iu 3 месяца назад

    29:30 i somewhat disagree with the analysis that you cannot run in and out again. In the first attack vs. the 4 tanks and the ghost squad, serral knew the first 2 tanks were close to the ramp and he would blinding cloud them almost immediately. If he estimates there are 2 mines and 2 more tanks, he streams his zerglings forward to draw the mine shots out and runs the banes behind to kill the PF. It would've been a big mistake if oliviera had like 2-3 more tanks there or the forward-most tanks farther back. If he saw the entire army hanging out to the right of the base there, he can still back out with most of his army, having killed most workers and 2-3 tanks while only losing lings and banes. I feel only getting the PF is a gamble there, perhaps that's the big point there though...
    Similar thing later in the game when he attacks the rightmost base. He runs zerglings forward and can still retreat the rest of the army if the lings encounter too much resistance, at which point he could move the entire army there to the left because that would be open then.

  • @AntiDoctor-cx2jd
    @AntiDoctor-cx2jd 3 месяца назад +1

    I'm not sure, I know lings beat ghosts in unit testing but maybe in game situations with map limitations and medivacs the ghosts come out ahead. Obviously it's easier to play the ghosts than the zerg. against AI you can just mass ghosts and win without even using snipe lol.

    Love the format but laughing at Oliveira's tank placement was pretty disrespectful. It would be more respectful to speak of where the better placement would be, without laughing. Sorry I'm just a bit triggered as a Terran, especially with the comment "Plus the gameplan for Terran is easier to execute than for zerg" (15:00)
    You basically are saying Oliveira threw this game, but all your commentary is about how good serral is. If your gonna imply Olivera threw the game, I think you should go into more detail on his mistakes and what he should have done instead.
    Ie: move the widow mines forward: to where? What else?
    Those tanks you were laughing at, were they meaningful to protect the production?

    • @LamboSC2
      @LamboSC2  3 месяца назад

      they were well positioned earlier on and his mistake was that he forgot to move them forward. They defended a position that was never gonna be attacked later on because it was dead center of all of oliveiras forces, if zerg wouldve attacked there you would lose to simcity and a natural surround that can kite you into all directions. Moving them to the more exposed positions, as i did explain multiple times wouldve been the correct call.
      And yes the terran gameplan in lategame is easier than the zerg gameplan, because it barely changes from map to map or from game to game and youre not the one forced to come up with solutions.
      This comment is meant for the highest level of play where the zerg gameplan of continuous amoves to the freshest base doesn't work if you're not ahead.
      The fact that oliveira played well overall goes without saying given how he got himself into a winning position vs Serral, and i respect his skill immensely which is why i picked his game over the games against maru to begin with.
      And trust me I would laugh at myself for forgetting about 40 supply of lurkers that were sieged up as a dropdefense while dying to a push somewhere else aswell, there was no ill intention behind it.

    half the top 14 people are terran, and they will probably still get buffed in the next patch. The game started out terran-biased and since then the other races still find ways to win and get terran buffed. Meanwhile terrans have not improved since the game first came out.

    1:55 Why does the best zerg in the game need 5 units to defend a stupid creep tumor vs 1 reaper... and its not even on the edge and you still call it "a greedy creep tumor"?
    I hate watching this interaction. I hate everything about it. Its not balanced. It favors terran in multiple ways. Its not right.

    I enjoyed how you paced this one. Definitely prefer the pausing or rewinding to talk about important things rather than rushing to talk about something over the game.
    Serral seemed jump on stuff when Oli was doing little attacks a couple of times, like when he was setting up the nukes or seiging up a bunch of libs. Was that just because serral saw all that stuff there? I wonder if Serral was aware of how much seige units were scattered around the map, like he knew if there was a decent amount of army showing face on his side that Oliveira couldn't have a high army density anywhere else. I love this kind of video, it always makes any games I watch in the future more fun as I get to look for any of the strategies or movements stuff that was pointed out here, so thanks!

    Wow, I finally understand Zerg late game after all these years. I always thought Zerg is on the backfoot in the late game due to weaker units but I never understood that you're supposed to bank lots of resources in the midgame and then overwhelm your opponent with a bigger army (due to less workers and bigger bank) in the late game. Thank you Lambo for showing it.

      That's mostly a recent trend after the nerfs to broodlords and infestors. Before that, you didn't really need to do that because broodlord infestor could trade so efficiently, but they nerfed zerg so much they now need the heavy resource advantage to be able to hold out long enough.
