Then I got a degree with some student loans and it hit my credit for over a 100 points before I graduated. It screwed my out of getting a new car to be able to do some independent contracting side gig Uber eats/instacart ect

I learned that if you have late payments, charge offs during the Covid-19 pandemic, write a letter to the CEO of the company explaining that due to Covid what you went through. Send the letter “certified.” I had ONE 30 day late in posted on January 2022 (credit card), ONE (bank) charge off/closed account. I done what was told and the Credit Card company corporate office called me and took of the 30 day late payment plus sent me a letter stating they had contacted the 3 Credit Bureaus. The bank corporate office contacted me stating they will send me a letter after their investigation, I’m still waiting on the bank letter as of to date.

Hi Shaheedah. I found out something VERY interesting from my credit union today that (If your not currently aware...) you may want to share with your viewers. If on Wednesday in the 7 day plan to better your credit; you ask for an extension of your credit limit, you may qualify but that is at the CURRENT APR rate. My rep just shared this with me. She said, "the banks won't tell you this but it's almost like applying for brand new credit, so if the APR is high (like it is now as of Sept. 25, 2023) it's actually better NOT to get an increase in one's credit limit and better to continue paying down what's owed to increase your score. My current rate is 12.9% but if they granted me an increase in credit limit; my remaining balance's APR would now be adjusted to 23%. Almost DOUBLE! Just FYI...LOVE YOUR SHOW!
Great to know! I wonder if that is specific to credit unions. I did an increase on my Discover card and the rate did not change. It could be that the original balance was a promotional offer? Thank you for sharing. Will keep this in mind for sure.
Yeah that should only apply to new purchases. Previous balance should remain with previous interest rate. Remember that asking for a higher credit line is only open credit amount. Not to go spending that new line of credit.
I have an 842 FICO myself. I hit 800 4 yrs ago. It took me 6 yrs of consistency to get it. There are no quick fixes good people. It takes time, discipline, and consistency. It won’t happen overnight, a few weeks, or even in a few months, but it will eventually happen.

UNGRATEFUL!!! I don’t know how many people realizes Mrs. Hill is giving you HIGH QUALITY FREE information that people charge up to thousands of dollars $$$ for! Some are scams, some do illegal things to “repair” your credit because they make unrealistic promises. Thank you Mrs. Hill for this PRICELESS LIFE CHANGING information!
This is in the book credit secrets 😂😂 with the writing & Credit Fair Act. The book was made years ago! Any inaccurate inquiries, debt, but building your credit is common sense, because credit karma tell you what makes up your credit & how to utilize your credit.
Yes, but honestly(I was a HS teacher for 14 years) most HS students aren't at a maturity level to really take it in, they need a refresher when they get in the world, get their first job, graduate college, buy their first car, get their first credit card, etc.
It makes a huge difference when you speak in a measured way, clearly. So many other RUclipsrs speak too fast, ambiguously and don't explain what they are referring to. You did an excellent job for the the rest of us to understand the topic.
Ms. Hill, I am 62 yrs old & struggled for 20 yrs alone without my kids, kicked out of my home & now I am healed to getting my life in order for a career & a 1st credit card of my own! Whew! You are such a Blessing to me and you have answered several of my questions in just this one video!! Bless you girl!! I am liking & subscribing to your channel. Thank YOU so very very much! 😂
Well done… excellent information… biggest mistake I ever made was paying off credit cards in my 30s and closing them out. My average length of credit would have been stellar.
I coming up! 1/22 Chapter 7 discharged - 2/22 Auto loan (14% int.) - 3/22 secured eRewards card ($600) - paid everything on time - 10/22 secured card => cash rewards ($2K) - score almost back up to 700! I’m on my way and not looking back!
I'm 63 years old. I wish I could have learned this when I was 20. I have great credit, but this will kick it up a notch. And so simple! I am sending this to a lot of people. You are a teacher. Thank you for this.
Bridget Barnett I am right with you! I am 63 years old also. Shaheedah is very knowledgeable and has an awesome presentation. They didn't teach us these things in school, but It was up to us to do the research. Can you only imagine if we had RUclips back in our day! Lol. I going to share her information to friends and family as well.
God bless you ma'am, the things this young lady is making available to us, ( my awesome wife & I are also 63,we also we not taught how to wisely use credit. We just learned by watching our familieswork & save! It is truly sad to not have the knowledge, that is important to first create, then pass on a legacy! As you are, we also are determined to build something for our grandchildren to carry on!
great info i wish this was readily available years ago, thanks for explaining this process in detail. recently my score just hit 850. im so proud of this accomplishment people it can be done.
What I don’t understand is if you don’t use credit and everything is paid off, then your FICO score goes down. Then when you re-apply for credit you get high rates and then you get negatively impacted everything your credit is pulled. I honestly think the credit game is a joke.
Complete scam…use cash for everything…it’s just a tool for the government to manipulate people into being CONSUMERS…the elite can’t control the world without us sleepwalking through the malls, car lots and every damn thing else and puppets like Miss Hill is with the shits and apart of the problem. Sorry, not sorry…I hate the credit-con.
It is. If the current administration really gave AF, they'd do something about these private businesses ruining people's lives over a $30 medical bill from 2018. 😡
You are a women of wisdom!!! You are the best RUclipsr for advise on credit and homeownership. Your wisdom helped me get my house last year. Thank you so much.
Because high school kids are too clever and will ask too many questions and call the bs scheme out for what it is. Imagine kid in school no family vs kid with family. Am sure that teacher is gonna co-sign for that kid with no family walking 2 miles to work each day 😅
This is true. Especially for mortgages. 780 will get you the lowest set interest rate and having an 800+ score will still get you the same interest rate. Like right now an 800 won't get you a 3% interest rate. You'll still get a mortgage rate around 7%. The only way to lower that is to throw down enough cash to get points or wait and hope that rates go down.
Thank you, Ms. Hill. You're the first 1st person I've watched who talks about people with bad credit and how they can fix that bad credit after having some issues. The sad part is having the system establish laws that hold 7 years of history and allocating 35% weight to that history; a hard punishment for people who have gone through hardship but genuinely are trying to fix that problem with no solution in sight. So thank you for mentioning the 'goodwill' deletion letter and 'pay to delete' solution after trying all other avenues.
Mrs. Hill, As a parent looking to help my college and high school students be on good early credit footing, your advice is not only well explained, it is the most instructional and comprehensive. You are a gem!
@@magicworld3242 Please explain? This person did not say they were broke or in debt, but what suggests something of the opposite -- with a score above 800, he/she is probably doing fairly well, or at least, like was said ... keeping a very steady life. Which is pretty darn good in itself. I don't understand why it seems you are chopping someone down for their discipline and success?
This is such an excellent video: wonderful concrete advice, and so clearly presented in a step-by-step way that makes it really easy to follow. Thank you for so generously offering to help put on the right road those or us who have strayed.
Hi Ms. Hill, very informative video and spot on information. I’ve done credit counseling informally in the military with other service members and your video is spot on! Love the 7-day objective layout. You’re doing God’s work ma’am because people really to hear this because we don’t teach it in school.
Amen! Yes defitnely from God. I had not long before stumbling into video prayed where to start to get ready for home buying procress. 🙏 answer to prayer!
Thank you so much for your video, I will get on this ASAP because most people are not aware of how finances work, when a lot of problems can be avoided or amended.
Great video Mrs. Hill as usual. Regarding to adding an authorized user, parents with good credits can also add their children (teenagers) as authorize user to help them establish their credit. Of course don't give the child the card(s). Also, do not add the child to the cards with higher balances (I'm sure if you have good credit, you don't have any high balances lol). My parents did this for me and my credit was in the high 700s at age 22yrs. It's also important for said parents to educate the child(ren) about credit before the child starts using credit. Keep impacting our community love. You're the best Mrs. Hill.
You are right. I did this for my daughter and her score is higher than mine now. She gets a YES when taking care of business! We know our children...please be honest with yourself about your child and the student they are while you are teaching this important lesson..I'm still working on my son but my daughter was a good student and understood the importance of the lesson and the weight of the responsibility it would carry in her life.
Miss Hill, I have watched a lot of credit advise RUclips videos and yours is by far the easiest , most comprehensive video out there. Thank you so very much for taking YOUR time to help anyone looking for the elusive best scores!
Spot on! I destroyed my credit when I was 26 back in 2010. I went from a 757 credit score to a 580. Took a lot of research, hard work, and time, but I now have a 828 FICO score. *Top phase resolution* is exactly what you need to do to hit a 800 credit score.

I don't have a question I just want to say thank you for all you do. I pray your seed sown reaps you a 100 fold return. I recently filled for bankruptcy but I'm employing the lessons your teaching to rebuild my credit and never have to repeat this process again. I am hopeful that in two years my credit will be recovered enough where I can purchase my first home and I want no one but you to be my realtor. You have poured so much info into me I want no one but you to get the reward. Thank you thank you thank you again for all you do to get all of us over the HILL to homeownership.

Really enjoyed this video. Impressed by her knowledge and ability to break things down in an easy to understand and easy to execute plan. I particularly appreciate that she is well-spoken without a lot of umms and ahhs in her dialogue. That can be distracting to the point of clicking off the video. The common sense approach used in this video makes it easy for practically anyone to take action TODAY and begin to repair their credit and increase their credit score. Kudos to you! Excellent advice! Thanks so much for sharing.
Excellent vid Shaheedah. This should help a lot of people. Personal finance is my favorite space and I hope you will continue to publish videos on these topics in addition to real estate. One note on the credit side would be, please be careful cosigning for anything, even if it's family. I've seen that go bad several times.
NEVER EVER co-sign for anyone. Co-signing hurts your DTI (Debit to income ration). Most importantly, if the persons doesn't pay, it's your responsibility to make the payments or your credit takes a hit.
My struggle is paying off my credit cards. I’m in Houston and am working on my “game plan” by a lender. I too am a teacher and this will be my first home purchase. I’m just so tired. I’m 51 and still chasing home ownership before my youngest child graduates in 2 years.
Try talking to your bank about consolidation in a form of a installment loan. This will free up your credit cards capacity, which will bring your utilization down and bring your score up. And most often you'll get a lower interest rate. Win , win situation. Just be careful not to run your credit cards back up, and put yourself back in the same struggle.
Create a zero budget. That’s when you get your paycheck and decide where every penny is going to go. If there is any extra money, use it to put on your credit cards. Use the snowball method. While continuing to pay the minimum on all your cards, Start with the smallest balance first to apply the extra money you have. If you were paying the minimum $25 and found an extra $31 in your budget to pay on it every month that’s $56 a month. Once that card is paid off you use that same $56 to pay on your next card. So the minimum $25 + $56 means you’re paying $81 dollars a month until it’s paid off. Keep doing this until they’re all paid off. The only way this works is to stop using your cards so much. Buy a cup of coffee and pay it right back off just to say you used it but you can’t make large purchases during this process.
Ms. Hill 🙌 Praise report to my prayer 🙏 that was answered less than 2hrs ago! Thank you for your very informative yet very easy to understand content! Starting a plan to home buying and I had prayed about where to start before I came across your videos ,defitnely a blessing!

Great info. I used a lot of these things to rebuild my score in the last couple years. One important thing to note is that most of these free credit monitoring services (Credit Karma, Credit Wise, etc) give you your Vantage scores but most lenders use your FICO scores and there can be a huge difference in those scores.
Thanks for sharing and yes you are correct. Your credit cards are usually giving a FICO score and MyFICO is what most member of my First TIme Buyers Group use to get the most accurate lender score.
@@ShaheedahHill Good content and info that a lot of people need. I'll probably never get a 800 score because It's to hard for me to pass up a good credit card Sign up bonus but I'm fine with being in the mid 700s
@@ShaheedahHill FYI: I have MyFICO Premier subscription and even-though it's expensive, you get your current FICO scores for all 3 bureaus for every FICO model in existence - FICO 2 thru 10. Experian is also a good alternative. It's the simple things you don't think about or consider. I had already been practicing "Saturday - Wednesday, but when you got to the part about credit limit increases, I actually paused the video and called each of my credit card companies requesting an increase. And just like that, one was bumped up $100, one $1,000 and two are requests are pending. That should give my credit a nice bump. I appreciate this video so much! Keep doing God's work!

I will never pay "credit repair" companies again. Just do your diligence and put in the work to improve your score. Wish I heard this years ago. Thanks for the video! Saving this for the archives cus we all need a reminder now and then =)
People who makes it to the excellent credit club use less than 2% of their available credit al all time. I went 16% on one card, less than 6% overall with a single $5000 charge. I paid it off on Friday, but it was already reported on Thursday. My score went down 16 points, kicking me out of the 800 club.
No they don't use less than 2% of their credit at all times they make sure that their credit utilization is reporting a low amount at the time of the statement cut off date. You can use your card to the Limit and pay it off before the end and still have excellent credit utilization
You forgot something. If you have 2 credit cards eith high interest, apply for a new credit line with zero interest for 18- 21 mo. You will likely get a higher credit line, tranfer those 2 credit card balances and keep the new credit line with some credit on it. You can make payments straight to principal with zero interest and pay off debt faster.
I cannot thank you enough for the quality information and easy-to-follow steps. I am SO glad I found you and that you lay it out on the table and keep it easy to understand. Thank you SO much! I will def. share your channel!

Credit score is not something used in all countries though. In France, they determine if you are eligible to get a loan (e.g., to buy a house) based on the ratio between your salary, your expenses and your savings. Basically, if every month you 'burn' all your money, you're perceived as riskier than someone earning less but consistently making deposits to a saving account. I feel in the US people tend to buy things they don't need with money they dont have... The only times I feel one should need a credit is when buying 'big' things (house, car, etc.). Not for a TV. I'm 42 with over 792 credit score, time was put into that to build it up with the

Signed up credit wise via chase bank and capital one Mastercard 4. Paid bills on time when I had income 🤦🏽♀️ according to Chase I’ve paid early. Accuracy evaluated. And items disputed in writing. 5. Goodwill deletion requested 6. Apply for a American Express Black Card
What keeps my credit score low is credit mix. I am debt free since 2017/2018 and I only use amex for car repairs. I pay it off monthly however. I've been stuck between 760 and 799 for the last two years.
Credit Wise has a good simulator, that can see if there are any tweaks you can make to get your score up. But with time it will likely increase. Congratulations on being debt free!
Hi since I started watching ur channel it has helped me improve my score thank u so much may god bless u. Today I checked n my score went up by 5 points.
This video is great ! I’ve done the disputes for friends and it worked each time. I also use auto pay for all bills where the amount doesn’t change , for the bills that fluctuate I want to look at what I’m being charged for before I pay the bill
You are such a great educator! The way you present the information with explanations and examples are definitely appreciated. What if someone doesn’t have credit cards? I paid them off 10 yrs ago and now realize I need at least 1 if not 2 cards. Should a person start with a secured card? Thanks so much for all that you do on this channel.
Try to apply for a credit card. You might get one with a small limit and you can hold from. The company will let you know if your card needs to be a secure (deposit $$$) card.
This in short was FANTASTIC! I've heard many people speaking on improving your credit say the same things. Tjis is the FIRST TIME that I have EVER heard of a good will letter. I didnt know that existed. I currently have good credit but not excellent credit dur to past late payments. My credit ratio is less than 5% . However, those late payments from 3 years ago are hindering my growth!!! Arghhh! I'm at 725 on experian and higher on credit wise at 770. ( I use experian as my true score). Anyway, thank you so much for the info and wish me luck with my letters!
Thank you for the info. I did what you suggested, but Creditwise has my score at 808 and experian has my score at 843, that is a pretty large difference. Both scores are great for me seeing years ago I had a car to get repossessed and had to do a chapter 13.
Creditwise uses Transunion that could account for the difference. I would just look at your Experian and Transunion credit report to see if there are any errors. But typically you will not have the same scores across all 3. Thanks for watching and sharing.
It's probably because creditwise uses Vantage score and Experian is probably giving you your Fico 8. My TU creditwise is 33 points lower than my TU Fico 8.

Some are scams, some do illegal things to “repair” your credit because they make unrealistic promises. Thank you Mrs. Hill for this PRICELESS LIFE CHANGING information!

This comment made me want to watch this video. Thanks for the honesty.
This is in the book credit secrets 😂😂 with the writing & Credit Fair Act. The book was made years ago! Any inaccurate inquiries, debt, but building your credit is common sense, because credit karma tell you what makes up your credit & how to utilize your credit.

This is basically the video every American school should have played for the students.

What I don’t understand is if you don’t use credit and everything is paid off, then your FICO score goes down. Then when you re-apply for credit you get high rates and then you get negatively impacted everything your credit is pulled. I honestly think the credit game is a joke.
It is. A credit score is really just a gimmick thing.
Zombie or credit that has not been used in a long time. Doesn't show up as available credit.
It is. If the current administration really gave AF, they'd do something about these private businesses ruining people's lives over a $30 medical bill from 2018. 😡
Like Dave Ramsey says it a I love debt score!
You are a women of wisdom!!! You are the best RUclipsr for advise on credit and homeownership. Your wisdom helped me get my house last year.

Thank you so much and I hope you are enjoying your new home😊
I don't know..(really I do) why this isn't a MANDATORY requirement prior to graduating high-school! Thank you...will be sharing this GOOD info!😊
Thanks for watching!
Making credit education MANDATORY prior to graduating high school makes too much sense
Because high school kids are too clever and will ask too many questions and call the bs scheme out for what it is. Imagine kid in school no family vs kid with family. Am sure that teacher is gonna co-sign for that kid with no family walking 2 miles to work each day 😅
They don't want minorities to know this like swimming. Ijs. This is MY opinion
Been wondering the same its not being taught the importance of good credit period I had to learn the hard way
Once u get to 780 your golden. No difference between 780 n 850 by banks.
My credit is 880 Equifax 875 TransUnion and 885 EX. Total credit utilization 2% total amount and credit cards $245,000
Thanks for watching!
245k??😢
Teach me!
850 max . Isn’t it .?
900 is the max Fico. I’ve only seen one at my job when I was reviewing the customer credit application for approval.
Thanks!
Hey Tookie, thanks for watching
Thank you for the knowledge.

Hill.
Great point and thank you as usual for your feeback and helping in the comments. 😊

Keep the faith you can do it. I am a former teacher too. See what you can do on the side to increase your income. Thanks for watching!

If u have credit cards with high interest then almost positive you will not qualify for a low or no interest from anyone, scores to low

So... You have taught school since you were 4 years old?
You have taught high school for 17 years, and you are 21 years old right now? That makes no sense!
Credit score is not something used in all countries though. In
France, they determine if you are eligible to get a loan (e.g., to buy
a house) based on the ratio between your salary, your expenses
and your savings. Basically, if every month you 'burn' all your
money, you're perceived as riskier than someone earning less but
consistently making deposits to a saving account. I feel in the US
people tend to buy things they don't need with money they dont
have... The only times I feel one should need a credit is when
buying 'big' things (house, car, etc.). Not for a TV. I'm 42 with over
792 credit score, time was put into that to build it up with the
Help of GlobalFixPro

You are such a great educator! The way you present the information with explanations and examples are definitely appreciated. What if someone doesn’t have credit cards? I paid them off 10 yrs ago and now realize I need at least 1 if not 2 cards. Should a person start with a secured card? Thanks so much for all that you do on this channel.
Try to apply for a credit card. You might get one with a small limit and you can hold from. The company will let you know if your card needs to be a secure (deposit $$$) card.
Thanks for watching, Try a secured card at first like Obaa said, I have one that I recommend in the description on this video.
try capital one first. you might not need to put up your own money as you would for a secure a credit card.
This is the simplest explanation and steps I have watched regarding credit. Thank you for sharing your info with us.

@@ShaheedahHill Thank you so much for responding and keep up the great work 🙂
It's probably because creditwise uses Vantage score and Experian is probably giving you your Fico 8. My TU creditwise is 33 points lower than my TU Fico 8.
Thank you very much. I'll implement these strategies today and will check back in to let everyone know how much my process has advanced....👍👍👍👍👍

I really enjoyed your video, and I like how you broke it down into daily steps -- that helps so it doesn't feel so overwhelming when juggling a lot of debt. Great job, thank you!! 🌞👍🤑
You are so welcome, thanks for watching.
Mrs. Hill is a national treasure! She needs to be protected at all cost!
So sweet, thank you
ALL THE CREDIT VIDEOS I HAVE WATCHED THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN. I just got told the house we have been renting is going to be sold and we have 1 option to buy but my score got bad for some stuff i didnt even know was on my report. So im trying to get it fixed as fast as possible because the price they are giving me for this house is almost 100k less then everything around us right now and i can afford it no problem. I really would like to set up a conference call with you or your team of i could.
Thank you, I really appreciate you watching. I would recommend you get pre-approved and the lender can help work on the things that you need to work on first to get where you need to be to be approved. Here is a video on how the pre-approval process works....
