I never really gave barbed wire too much thought but it definitely has played a big part in just about all wars after its invention. Thanks for the very interesting video once again. 👍🏼
It was a crime at one point to have wire cutters in your pocket during the Range Wars. Wire with Zinc also helped with corrosion. And in Australia, Rabbits were so prolific that they would clog fence lines and drink stock ponds dry of their water, until natural predators like Bob Cats were introduced.
This reminds me of the ridiculous request by the German government during WW1 to ban shotguns since they were deemed inhumane whilst they deployed poisonous gas, flamethrowers and artillery shells the size of bathtubs at the enemy lol
@@FriedrichBarb Eisenhower also wasn't a fan of the anti-fraternization laws after the fall of Germany, as he knew that there was no damn way he could enforce them.
You still can't trust a man name Gates LOL! :) Two other things about Barbed Wire, 1. Do not pee on it. 2. sometimes Barbed wire can pick up a radio signal, it is rare but has happened, or so they say. T
Fascinating. I must say no species native to North America other than bison or bears would have been really completely restricted in movement by barbed wire. Anything else would go under or over. Wire fences restricting access to water and grass resulted in many localized fueds and range wars resulting in countless deaths in America.

And out in Far West Texas (I live in Marfa, TX-a place time forgot!), anyway when telephones were being installed everywhere Marfa and a few others little towns out here mostly making do in many boom & bust cycles because of reliance on ranching and the troops posted at Forts here during our many wars. Ranchers need lots of land out here in the high desert to support herds so telephoned we’re kinda tough to figure out.. ingenuity! Someone figured out you could a party phone line up to the barbed wire for most of these ranches yo have emergency telephone service since the barbed wire lines were spotty when cattle got to rubbing on & knocking over wire! There is a two-volume history of our Presidio County which is rather huge teaching down to the Rio Grande border. Pancho Villa raided in these parts plus at Fort DA Russell we had German pows! You can find all sorts of info about Modern Marfa on-line.
First time barbed wire been use by the British Expeditionary force after the Boer war to create concetration camps and hold the prisoners of war and their families
2:46-2:47 I saw that edit. Press F for the veggie garden. Also I do agree with someone else in the comments, how about videos about cold war and possibly modern day mercenaries?
Sorry. Wrong. Life Stock was Free Ranged. Wire was expensive for farmers. Fences are used to keep livestock OUT. Corn field, wheat, Garden, ect. Farmers had enough to do to feed the family.
Another topic I havent really put much thought in, always makes it that more interesting, great choice in content recently HoH 👍🏼
3:02. The Homestead Act of 1862 usually provided for 160 acres (65 hectares). Not 160 hectares.
You're right! Bit European from me
@@HoH No worries. Keep up the great work!

Good video..
Need more on history of diff things
Personally, I’m interested in Cold War mercenaries, like Siegfried Müller, Rolf Steiner, as well as the French Foreign Legion.
Ah yes Müller and his massive grin. As well as him holding a tribal spear and shield.
Thanks for the suggestions! Very interesting, I'll see what I can find
This was so great. Thank you for the book suggestion.
Any time!

Devil's rope indeed. I've helped a conservancy group remove many miles of barbed wire.
Did Glidden invent a brand of paints using his name too?
