My great grandfather was from Poland. He ended up in Chicago working as a butcher. All of his kids spoke fluent Polish as he didn't speak English very well. All of his Polish recipes were handed down to his kids. This was one of them. I grew up with Polish food and can't live without it to this day. True delicious comfort food! I would eat stuff like this any day compared to going out for meals. When I was a kid, my grandmother and her sisters would cater family weddings and have Nesco's full of Polish food. I miss weddings like that!
I went to a Polish wedding in Cleveland, Ohio years ago. The Nesco roasters full of kielbasa and sauerkraut was so good. They had cabbage rolls and pierogi too. Most fun wedding ever.
I grew up in Chicago and lived in a Polish neighborhood and loved getting groceries like deli ham, kielbasa, fresh baked breads, cookies, cakes and ready made foods at the corner Polish deli❤
@michelleg.4587 what neighborhood??? Me too!
Yes
Please make more videos. My grandmother isn't around to teach me these recipe anymore! Love all of your recipes they are absolutely wonderful.
Samjo bosanska sarma je naj bolja,
I had exatly the same though.
Although my grandmother was czech and my grandfather was polish.
She did how ever tech me how to do this czech style ....every things the same excepty layer the dish instead of rolls.
Same here. My grandmother used to give me the cabbage core to eat just like he said! My grandmother was polish but my other grandmother was Slovak. Lots of cabbage in my childhood.
@@cindyscarborough695 Super cool. How I miss those days with my grandparents. I'd give anything to spend one more day with them, and smell polish food cooking in the kitchen filling up thier house. Alas, I'm here on RUclips trying desperately to recreate so many of these recipes I took for granted as a kid and young man.
@@binnins1982 I just reread your comment and thought about it a bit. So almost like cabbage lasagna?
I haven't had this since my Grandmother had died in 1991. My Grandmother's Mother was from Lithuania, & her Father was from Poland. They are all dead now, and I just want to say that the saying, "You Don't know what you've got, until it's Gone." It is so true! Oh, how I wish I could just talk to my Grandmother just one more time:( Thank you SO MUCH FOR THIS RECIPE! It makes me feel like a child again!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does someone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot the login password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
My boyfriend is Polish, and just shared to me that this was one of his favorite foods 😍 so now I MUST learn how to do this as a surprise:3 I’m also learning Polish, I’m having so much fun with this!
Gołabki are good and easy to make.
Have you learned to make em yet? 😊
My dad was from Czechoslovakia and made these every Sunday! He topped the rolls with sauerkraut and made them stove top. I can’t wait to make these for my family! It brought back many great memories of his wonderful cooking! Thank you!
The Polish Chef reminds me of my down to earth, no-nonsense grandfather who was born and raised in Sichuan, China. He was a passionate airplane mechanic and would cook Sunday lunch for the family while listening to Peking opera music in the kitchen.
Music, food and family are a great combination. Thanks for the story.
thanks for the story, what a great tradition and memory to have from family ♡

My polish stepmother made these for us and they are delicious. Like little meatloaf' rolled into cabbage. She added Dice green peppers, corn cut of the cob, and grated carrots to make a heartier feeling, one of the best things I've ever had. After watching this video, I'm making me some soon, thanks for the video.👍
Wow, this is the real deal, my mother used to make these when I was a kid. I've missed them since I've lived in the South now for most of my adult life, they really are VERY hard to find down here. So this video is a life saver, for someone craving a well remembered, and delicious comfort food from their childhood.
I still like Golabki. You should make some. I know you can.
Will you make more videos? I'm a little sad that your channel hasn't had any new ones for a year. I like your style - you actually take the time to show how the food is made, unlike a lot of videos these days that edited to show things happening so quickly that it's hard to understand what's going on. Thanks for this Golabki recipe, it is one of my favourite comfort foods :)
Yes .
I’ve been coming back to this video for the recipe for the last three years and it never fails, always a family hit thank you polish chef
My Ukrainian grandmother, my Belarus grandmother, my Polish aunt and my mom made them for us and I’ll never forget them. Also pirogi by all.
A VERY good video.
"You should not question me!! I'm the Polish chef!!!"
Love that line... 😁
My mother was an amazing cook. She pleased many with her wonderful talent. I've watched her many times make cabbage rolls. She made them exactly like this chef. This is the perfect recipe. If you follow what is done here they will be delicious. She wasn't Polish my mother, actually Scottish. Stay safe everyone. The best from, Canada!
I'm Japanese, I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm from a man who dies with a roll of cabbage.

I love Gołabki, grew up eating them, but instead of using tomato sauce, we use gravy and sour cream, as my great-grandparents from Poland didn’t waste the meat juice from a previous meal. Also, soaked them in broth rather than tomato or plain water for extra flavor in the cabbage. Still amazing either way!
I'm Mexican and love making and trying new recipes. Polish food is delicious. My family loved it. Thanks

@@shy3805 ....thank you... stupid comment from an asshole is so out of context...A very good video..grt ingredients, simple and I plan on having them tonite for supper.
When I was growing up in Mexico city, my mom did the same your great- grandmother did. She gave the cabagge's core to my sister and me.
I was looking for this recipe for a long time. Thanks
Just to add - you can add cabbage leafes at the bottom of the pan and then start layering cabbage rolls. Thanks to this they won't get burned and will require less control (so you just leave it to simmer).
Swietna robota panie Dariuszu ! Ciesze sie, ze pokazuje Pan Polske dla Amerykanow.
I'm in my 40s and I still love eating cabbage cores. I love your recipes, thank you!
I love cores too...lol.. I love raw cabbage
Are you Corey Cabbage in person...nice to meet you!
This is a very popular dish in the Dominican Republic, I didn’t know it was originally from Poland 🇵🇱 amazing, thanks for sharing. Every time I visit my mom she makes this delicious 😋 dish.
This video brought a smile to my face and made me happy thinking about Mom and Grandmom's awesome Polish cooking. Thank you Chef Dariusz!
Check out a show called Loving Spoonfuls. The host visits grandmas of different cultures and they cook together the foods from their cultures, while talking about where they are from. It's a very sweet show. Here's an episode with a German grandma. ruclips.net/video/r9iqOrzlC0I/видео.html
I’ll never understand WTF people dislike good videos.
I’ve been making these for 20 years! My grandmother taught me how to make these. Always a fun dish to make!

Hey I'm from Georgia in the US. My Great grand parents were from Poland. Their last name was Wyciskala. I'm glad I found your channel. I've been wanting to try making some Polish recipes. Love watching you!
Every culture in the world has this as a recipe. My mother is from Mexico and I remember eating these as a child. I started drooling when he was grabbing them out of the pot. My favorite way to eat cabbage!
My grandmother if from the Ukraine and my grandfather is from Poland. They made this dish all the time back in the day! Loved it
I loved this video. I grew up in the kitchen with my grandma and I'm the only one that knew how to do it once she passed. She made it with small differences yet we never measured so I always kind of eye ball it. I love cabbage so I would cook the extra cabbage with it. Great Video! Thanks.
My girls and I cooked this today. Coring the cabbage first was new to me but it made the job in the pot a million times easier. The 2 ounce disher worked perfectly and of course I wore my red Polish Chef apron. This recipe was a load of fun with the family and the taste was exquisitely Polish! Thanks to the Polish Chef for another great day in the kitchen with the family and another fantastic dish!
That is nice. Thanks!

I want to thank you for bringing back my love for cooking. Ever since my father had his 3 strokes in November I have lost all motivation for anything. But after seeing this all I want to do is make our favorite dish from my childhood and bring it to my father in the hospital today. He will be so excited and will hopefully bring back some of his memories of my grandma Pulaski making them when he was a child.
I am glad.
That looks delicious my mom used to make stuffed cabbage she was from Pennsylvania and make lots of homemade food. Ever since I was a child I have eaten the core to the cabbage..love it. Been many years since I have made stuffed cabbage..now I want to make some.😁
I ate this dish once when I was twelve, in the home of a family I used to babysit for. It was absolutely delicious. I tried to duplicate her recipe and it was a disaster but that was way before youtube. Now I think I can do it. Thanks for sharing.
Great!
Don't forget to add 3-4 cloves of fresh garlic chopped in the filling, everything else looks good. I'm Slovak , that's what gramma did. LOL
I also like it with garlic.

Looks sooooooo good! I'm making this for dinner tonight! But, I only have 1/2 pound of sausage, 4 cabbage leafs and a can of stewed tomatoes. I think I can pull it off. I'll let you know :)
Thank you! You took me back to the days my father Edmund made pierogi. The cabbage leaves were still hot, but he filled & folded them perfectly like you did. Bog zaplac.
I already made this recipe you showed a couple years ago and it was sooo good! Now, I want to make it again for my Tata when I visit him and my mom back home in Canada. He is from Szczecin, Poland. He will be so happy, I can’t wait for him to try your recipe that I will make for him 😊💕
Keep your promise , you will make your Tata happy.
Grew up eating this, my grandma, mother's mom, made this often but just passed away recently. I am going to make it for my mother's birthday to surprise her. Thank you for being so helpful with the tips and measurements, I appreciate it.
Started getting into my polish roots and making these. I love them :)
Great.
Me too. My Polish Dad died 25 years ago - I've many regrets about not exploring his heritage when he was around. Successfully recreating it via this recipe brings me a little closer to his life. Thank you Dariusz!
Same! I'm trying to reconnect with my polish/german roots. I grew up eating these foods, but I haven't eaten them in a long time. I want them to be a part of my family traditions again.
my polish great grandpa use to write her recipe's down and I found them in my grandma's house. I'm curious to know about my polish blood line. I wish my grandma passed the language down so my dad would have taught his kids.
Five year old video and still getting fresh comments! Good on you. My mother would use sauerkraut generously. The extra cabbage leaves would be stuffed in along side the cabbage rolls. It's all good. Bring back memories.
Oh look, right there, next to my comment is a RUclips suggested video, How to Make Pierogu - The Polish Chef. Lemegowatchit.
In Ukraine, Russia and Belarus these dishes called Vareniky the same as Pierogy and Golubtzy the same as Goluabky... The name of Golyabki or Golubtzy always suprised me because this words based on word pigeon. ))
Thank you for showing clearly the technique for rolling them. I'll be trying it today. (My late aunts were able to make these the size of a finger - seemed like it was a competition at block parties and church food sales... who could make the tiniest, yet still perfect rolls. They passed away before I could learn all their cooking secrets though.) This video you posted should be a big help.
My grandma came from Poland and she used ground pork and veal with rice. I never say her put onion it the recipe and neither did my mother. They also added cut up red potatoes in the tomato paste mix and that was very very good.
Absolutely wonderful! The video finally taught me how to stuff and roll the cabbage.Trimming the rib and watching how you folded the cabbage leaves was the trick for me. I had to replay that part a few times, until I got the process down pat! You're a good teacher as well as an excellent chef. I didn't have beef; so I used ground Italian sausage instead. Good flavor, too. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve had this dish before when I went to Poland for a choir trip back in high school and everyone loved this!!!! Thank you for uploading this video! I need to try to make this at home soon
My grandma used to make these all the time. They are my favorite!
It was a bad idea to watch this when I was hungry. Now I have a cabbage roll craving....
Great video! Will be sure to follow this recipe, thank you!

Glad I found this channel. My husband and I are orthodox Jewish and he is Ashkenazi so he likes anything European. This will really help me!
My Mother-in-law was Slovak and she made a similar dish called halupke. The difference was she added cut up potato and sauerkraut to the pot. When it was almost done she added sliced kielbasa. Delicious!!
My family is from the Ukraine. We call it a different name, but it’s amazing and we love it.
My family is too but we call pierogi “Pyrohy”
seeing this video then realizing this video was made IN my home town, and seeing that store, love it even more. I even know the butcher in that video. Keep up the awesome videos!
Michele miezulnopții - nice to see some of us here in the U.S. still have a butcher in their market!
I have made cabbage roll stew with all the same ingredients and served over the rice with a dollop of sour cream. Delicious. Same great taste with half the work.
My European husband wanted me to make cabbage rolls like his mom used to make. You have the best video. Thank you!
Lovely recipe! My mom was Polish and although I am veganI still love Polish food! Brings back memories. Thank you
Why do vegans always have to let everyone know they are vegan
1:35 I love hearing stories like this, my grandmother did the same thing in the US when I was a boy - grandmother's must be the same in all parts of the world :)
Hi Chef, we love your recipe. Thank you for showing us how to make these!
just like my grandmother and mother made thanks for the review because I forgot the details . You are the best.
I've Watched Several Tutorials On How To Make Cabbage Rolls And This Is By Far The Best One.
I have just put this in the oven! Your method of steaming the cabbage and assembling the rolls is awesome! This is my first time to make this, but my mom cooked it many times when I was a child! Thank you, sir!
I think that this is somehow the first time I've seen anyone try to explain how to make "piggies" in any context other than a family kitchen. The hungarian paprika is definitely worth it, in case anyone wonders. Some have experimented with mushrooms in the baking sauce but I think browned buttery mushrooms on the side with a little extra plain rice and some pickled vegetables is like the most perfect.
They look yummy. We make ours the German way. The roll is made the same but we put a small ham hock in the bottom and use sauerkraut & water to cover. Also yummy.
I love stuffed cabbage , my mom was yugoslavian its delicious
I was raised and learned to cook from my Sicilian mother and Assyrian father. Such great food from both cultures. But, my favorite to cook and eat is Polish food. I've been using your recipe for many years now. I watch this video nearly each time I make Golablki. Thank you for posting. So good!
Thanks. I think anything made with cabbage is good for you. Keep on cooking.
You and your wife make it Seem so easy to make and delicious to eat. Wonderful tutorials was such a pleasant atmosphere to them.
Wow. We also have that same recipe. What a coincidence. My mom used to cook it rarely when we we're young. I guess that's 25 years ago. From: Philippines
This video is the best! I love how you take time to pour yourself a beer.
I really appreciate your efforts to share your knowledge with us. This looks like tomorrow's supper will be wonderful, thank you.
Yippie! 😍Cabbage rolls are soooooo yuuuuuuuuum! Thx for the great recipe & fun vid!🤓
Edit: I made it for my dad, who is a grumpy person. He smiled! He loved the neatness and the taste. Thx for showing the technique for rolling especially.
Beautiful man whose kind, clean, and cooks wonderful food. All hails from the Middle East and Norway 👳👍
I’ve always wanted to make these! So glad I found this video, they turned out fantastic, thank you!
My mom made these, I didn't like the rice. Today I use 90/10 meat, onion, celery, green pepper, 2 eggs to bind, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper coarse grind on both. All the rest is the same except I put mine in a crock pot with potato quarters and cabbage on high for 3 to 4 hours with either tomato sauce or paste. Good stuff. His way is the right way. Mine is leaner and less greasy. These freeze well cooked or raw.
I'm Serbian and love cabbage rolls❤️❤️GR8 recipe❤️❤️
Do you call it sarma or sadama?

My Mom was Polish and this is how we made them when I was a child back in the 70's.
Great. I like them any time .
This is how I learned to make them from my grandmother!
Grandmother made these for me when I was still in my single digits. She made a Dutch version. I'm definitely going to prepare this. But will prepare half with garlic added to see if I can taste it. 🍻😉👌
they make it also in Kuwait....but they use grape leaves, and call it dolma,so yummy😋
Elsa Deriquito I love grape leaves..my turkish friend use to make them for me but we no longer live close together..would love to learn how to make them..

Yes... We make it also here.. Cabbage roll
grape leave? how does it taste?
Lelle I HD imagine the taste of the cabbage roll, but the cabbage leaves are waaay thinner. Like paper. That’s how grape leaves are. They’re fantastic & delicious, too.
Our neighbor, "Grandma" MaryAnn, used to make these for us before she passed away. (My own Polish grandma didn't cook so I was so very grateful.) I'll have to try these myself this weekend! Thank you!
Scottish guy here, love Polish food and gonna follow your recipe to make Golabki, Thanks friend.
I don't pre cook the rice or onions. I add 2:1 ground beef to pork, don't boil the cabbage as much as you did. I also make my own homemade tomato soup to put over the cabbage rolls, not watery tomato paste. I use double the cabbage and put a layer under and over the cabbage rolls as well as add sauerkraut on top, then bake it. P.S. I use a roasting pan for more even cooking. My Grandmother was born in Romania, my Grandfather in Poland. My Father was born in Poland as well and spent his first 5 years in Germany, then moving to Canada. It's interesting how a cabbage roll recipe can differ from one family to another.
Do you consider this recipe traditional ? Or is your recipe more traditional ? My parents were born in Poland and have made this all their life and still do. I've never seen my paremts double the cabbage leaves for rolling. Thats too much cabbage to cut through.
My Polish grandmother made her Galumpkis the same way the Polish chef did, just one layer of cabbage, fatty ground beef, rice, spare seasonings, and home-canned tomatoes. But she lived through a childhood of perpetual poverty and hunger in Poland, only to come to the US just in time for the Great Depression. Frugality was permanently embedded in every fiber of her being. But this is what I ate at her house all the time, and it is nostalgia for me. You also didn’t get seconds!
Loved your vidio, thank you so much. There are people out here that need and appreciate your information and perfection.
thanks !! working on some new videos .
I'll be watching. Be well.
My mouth is literally watering! I can't wait to make these! Thank you so much for making this video, and teaching what you know. 💚
i love golabki, in my Polish family we always called them "pigs in the blanket", but i know everyone else thinks of 'pigs' as little wrapped hotdogs lol.
It might sound weird, but I love eating my 'pigs' with potato salad...a little of each on the fork for each bite...mmm :)
... Dude, I'm in tears for better times. I pray that you are in a better place. Thank you for what you gave us...it made a difference ...
@Jack Stone ... In brings back memories of Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio when I was young. A lot of eastern Europeans on Friday/Saturday nights would make Golabki and Perogis take them to the Church Hall and sell them. Some were cooked and we referred to it as a Polish Fish Fry. I miss those simpler times ... And he has passed away this pass month ... Making the world a little less of what it was ...

I love this guy so much, he is so real and the cooking is back to traditional polish cooking
My grandmother and my dad made these when we were growing up. Thank you for showing me how to do it correctly.❤️
Stomach started growling at this one, and remember being a small boy bringing in the cabbage for this. Same recipe exactly except right before rolling she would take some bottled thick ketchup, and pour a line of right onto the mixture, then roll it as shown. Same sauce and everything, and a tastier meal doesn't exist out there. Happen to know leftover rolls make a wonderful sandwich filling too ;)
Cabbage rolls are extremely easy to make...just time intensive!
Yeah, but I wonder if you can just make them in advance.. You know, it doesn't seem like it would take much more time to make more.. The question then would be how to reheat, lol.
This is Romanian traditional cuisine. You can mix everything with out boiling + 1-2 spoones on the mixture. The only one thing you have to boil little bit on medium fire is the cabbage to make it soft, do not boiled that much, cause you canot use it any more.. It is good for Christmas this recipe, evwrybody love it. And in the between rolls cabbage you can add some smoked bacon and bay leaves. And in the mixture add dry thyme NO parsley.. Ofcourse, up to everyone's taste.. Also, add some lemon salt in the pot in the between rolls, it will taste absolutely amazing. Enjoy! Serve it with hot bread, hot peppers in vinegar & some tequila!
Ce hot bread ma ,mamaliga e baza :D :)))

I grew up with these both from my Polish Aunty and from my Israeli Aunty. The Israeli version had burghar wheat instead of rice and sometimes other meats (than beef) were used.
From what I have found is that stuffed cabbage is popular in Arabic to Greece and across Eastern Europe. We all call it something different and have slightly different spices but it’s really all the the same. Thank you for the lovely memories of my Aunt Mary and making this with her.
