I was captivated from beginning to end, certainly a very fine piece of music. Almost as magnificent as his "Cantus Arcticus". After a long time I came back to Rautavaara and was not disappointed. Must listen to more of his work. Thank you !!
I agree with you. "Cantus Articus" is the first music of his that I listened to, and that brought me into his realm. I never regretted spending &&& on his CDs.
Rautavaara is someone I have only listened to in a piecemeal way and should take more time with. I had a very different impression of him and I guess it depends on what period of his work you listen to...he is quite interesting, sometimes difficult to grasp structurally but often quite beautiful, original and surprising.
he's an original: always surprising, atmospheric......he draws you into his sound world.
Magnifico!!!

No deja de sorprenderme su genialidad!
I love the seventh the best but this is among my other favourites along with #8!
I'll second that.
Personally I am most partial to his first three but I like serialism
3:44
8:45
12:54
beginning is very much like Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet
that's fun
thanks for this. what is the painting?
"Pastorale" (1923-4) by the English painter Frederick Cayley Robinson.
@@SergioCánovasCM It's beautiful! I was sure that it was Edvard Munch.
Sorry but, I find his symphonies boring. Depressing if you ask me. Not the kind of music I would give a second listen to.
You don't understand depth of this music. But your opinion is acceptable 🙂
Not nearly as dark as Bruckner
