In terms of training a dog not to bite : you shouldn’t’t hold their mouth really, instead, you should act like Rocco has really hurt you even if he nips you so he gets the idea that biting is painful for other dogs and people.
Yes! Also what we did with our puppy was we would yelp like another puppy would so she got the idea that she was hurting us.
@@gretah1805 yes! It’s really effective, especially if they were removed fron their litter before 8 weeks ( they dont learn bite inhibition whixh is why you shouldnt do that)

@@lizard7348 he doesn’t hate you, if this happens it’s best to get up and leave him alone for a bit to calm down rather than keep playing. If your dog is being agressive its most likely because they are under physically/mentally stimulated so try watching some other videos on how to increase those. Also, make sure your dog is getting enough sleep and isn’t overly tired, a puppy should take lots of naps throughout the day.

@KATE STANLEY all puppies are the most beautiful, its hurtful when people say that about someones puppy when others have worked really hard contacting breeders, training them, and loving them, Its kinda like a parent saying, "my kid will be better than all of you kids" to all the other parents, even tho parents have gone thru hell raising their kids. But then again not a lot of people understand.

i’d suggest getting a grass mat (live or fake)and putting it on the patio maybe? it’s a lot easier to train them to go outside if they have used that before. in my experience it’s very difficult to swap from potty pads to grass.
A kennel bottom and buy a roll of sod its like 5 dollars

Yes!! I got mine off of Amazon, and it was the best way to potty train my pup in an apartment! It’s great too because it helps keep the puppy safe from parvo!

I love how all these vids I watch of people bringing a puppy home the puppy is so calm BUT WHEN I GOT MY GSD HE WAS CRYING
the fact that i put "have you ever thought of getting a dog?" in your apartment q&a questions on your story. I CALLED IT LOLOLOLOL
I also have a golden retriever, Luna, and she will be 12 years old this year and she’s feeling great even though she’s almost completely blind. She still loves everyone with all her heart. Even when she’s not feeling well or has some “bad” days, she always wiggles her tail and wants to cheer everyone up. This video brought me so many memories of Luna when she was a pup 😭❤️ congratulations! I’m sure Rocco will give you lots of love 💕

i got my dog a few years ago and its super important to make sure your puppy respects you and doesnt get defensive! a few tips we learned is putting your hand in his food bowl as he heats every now and then so he doesnt get protective over it, as well as touching his paws a lot especially when hes on his back! it was something we were told by previous dog owners in our family and we think doing that is why hes so sweet and kind

the fact that you're doing everything you can to give him the best life🤩
I got a new puppy back in August and what helped with her crate training was leaving the door open during the day. When she would go inside of it on her own she would be praised, then at night when we would lock it she was more comfortable with the crate.
Congratulations! They are the best roomates EVER. And is so cute how he falls sleep in your arms as you are talking!
Tip: You can put a hot water bottle with him to sleep, when they are puppies they're always looking for the warmest places. That's how I got mine to sleep all night and to be calmed when I wasn't homre.
Oh and let him bite you so you can teach him when to stop, that's really important so they know when they start to be painful and not go that far.

when we crate trained our puppy, we took her out every 2-4 hours for the first 2 or so weeks and she learned really fast! and it usually helps to put the crate where they can’t see/hear you :)
What if I sleep upstairs? My Corgi girl sleeps in her crate downstairs. Should I keep new Golden pup outside my door maybe? Or downstairs next to my Corgi so he feels less lonely?
@meredithyoung186 Have done many dog rescues and some felines. But when we keep them and train them for their New FOREVER home I keep them with my dog for Company and We are on the same floor as them within arms length. I want them close buy at all times.
So exiting!! Dogs are a must.

tips from someone who has had 3 dogs. crate training: try to buy a crate with a grate so if there are accidents you wont have to clean the entire thing. then put potty pads in the trays. remember that dogs often wont pee or poop where they sleep, so crate accidents shouldnt happen that often. dont give into their whines! most times its for attention, sleeping near them or constantly talking to them will only make them whine more and for a longer time. if their whines sound more like yelps of pain then do a quick check to make sure they arent injured and return to bed. buy a crate cover! crate covers will make their crate into a dark safe place and also not allow them to look at you (which can cause whining.) also buy a crate that only allows room for them to turn around or lay flat. if the crate is too big they might have more accidents. Biting: theres many ways to stop biting, a tap on the nose, shouting NO or AH, sometimes yelping like a dog to signal pain, shaking coins in a bottle, you really just have to find whichever makes them stop, but remember to never squeeze their nose, hit them hard, or get too upset. they're just puppies after all.

I was about to type out a ton of advice, but them remembered that you have had dogs before. The only recommendation that I will make is to consider an obedience school. Golden Retrievers are so eager to learn and please, but they can be little rascals as puppies. Rocco is so cute. Happy dog-parenting!
