MAJOR update since uploading this. In talking to Rodney a few days a later, I asked about the pins on his hat. He explained them to me with great pride, and then he said that the one most special to him stays in his pocket. To my amazement he pulled out a Purple Heart, that he received for his heroism in the Battle Of Mogadishu on October 3/4th 1993. Many of you may know that battle by the movie of it that came many years later… Black Hawk Down.
This man has seen the absolute worst horrors of war, gave 20 years of his life to our nation, is medically disabled, and is now being kicked around the streets of town living in whatever vehicle he can, always trying to find a new place to park, all on the $1,600 a month that the government thinks he should be able to live on. Rodney thinks he is lucky that I came along when I did, but the reality is we’re all lucky that people like Rodney came along when they did.
    This is an absolute tragedy.

People like Rodney have actually contributed to society and have fallen through the cracks. Thank you for all you do. You are an inspiration by always making a difference. I am a fan/subscriber/patreon and truly look forward to your You Tube posts. I addition to volunteering with my local county 4x4 volunteer SAR group here in Washington, I am also a volunteer Veterans Service Officer (VSO). We help folks with the paperwork their VA benefits. We do this 100% free. What I noticed in your major update is that Rodney was only collecting about $1600 a month. That is extremely low amount, assuming that he is eligible for full VA benefits. I looked up on the internet to see if there is a Veterans Services Center in Bend, and there is. There should also be an American Legion and VFW in the area that has volunteer VSO's. As a veteran myself I know it can be hard for him to reach out for help, but maybe the local volunteer VSO's can reach out to this veteran. You have done enough, but I do know you still care. I saw the pins on his cap, and I know what they were and that they indicate that the wearer has done more than simply serve in the military. If I can help let me know. Doing right has no borders. Side note: that vehicle recovery from down the side of that vertical drop last week was spine tingling to watch, but awesome.

Most people do not realize that most of the medical decisions/benefit awards are decided by people who were NEVER in the military and act like the benefit money awarded for injuries service connected comes out of their personal pocket and have the attitude of vets are a piece of paper on their desk or just an entry in their computer. Much like social security office workers who deal with decisions and appeals.their mind thoughts of us is

As a vet myself , thank you Casey for having the heart and mindset to help a stranded Vet. I don’t know if you are still in contact with him but he should go and reapply for disability and see if the increase his percentage. I’ve gotten hooked on your channel and now I have my better half hooked as well. You are very informative and knowledgeable . Thank you for all you do!

From what I saw with his pins , one is his rank when he was in ( E-5 Sargeant ) , most likely airborne, and Marksman badge with rifle and most likely grenade ( I have the marksman badge myself with rifle and grenade ) . Thank you very much Casey for helping a brother in arms
