man as a mechanic it was hard to put these engines in a G35 but my G35 was already a factory manual but congrats for the manual swap must took a hell lots of work to get this in and out but congrats
Im glad i found your chanel. Because i'm also removing the engine and transmission drom my 2004 g35 sedan automatic. Had a rod knock. I plan on rebuild it with new rod bearings, if i find a kit to overhaul it i will buy that. Great first video and this video is very entertaining.
Thank you! & it’s interesting that you’re going with the rebuild instead of the replacement. Definitely let me know how that goes because I’ve always opted for a used motor with a warranty due to the price being cheaper.
I have a vhr in my g35 coupe wish I could continue but can't I'm too deep into it and can't afford to continue due to personal stuff but glad i got to see how a manual swap is done on the G platform for possibly the future
That was one hell of a job. I can't even imagine to think what it would cost to have a mechanic do this for you. Would probably cost more then the car itself lol
The gear shift and manual transmission position in the automatic sedan, is where some light fabrication & welding would come in handy. That center console looks like a pain. I've been wanting to do this with my G35 sedan.
Does it perform the same as how a normal manual G would? Like any cons or downsides? I’m thinking about swapping my 04.. mechanic said 1200 for labor and around 1400 for parts I’m trying to see if it’s worth it.
@@HUNCHO._ haven’t drove a factory manual but pretty much. Only difference would be the ecu tune and the differential gearing. I swapped my differential and will tune it this spring. I spent $1700 with a JWT clutch kit and CD009 and did it myself.

How did you specifically do the wiring. I’ve already got the trans for my g and plan on doing this but I’m so confused looking at how you did the wiring to get it to turn over. And also you wiring it didn’t cause any other electrical problems did it?
Vins are untouched on both. The plates on the engine bay I have them in my office on a cork board lol. Don’t need them since the vin is stamped on the firewall but you can always use zip screws and put the plates back on
hi, my car also takes a long time to start and runs in emergency mode. There is an error code 0335 - crankshaft sensor, but replacing it will not solve the problem. did you manage to solve this?
If you get a u1000 code for a canbus error it cannot be erased. You would have to replace the ecm/keys from an auto to a manual ecm and keys. This is caused due to the ecm looking for a tcm that doesn’t exist (it’s inside the valvebody of the RE5R05) I’ve done this swap years ago and no tuner could clear that code. You can run it with the u1000 code with the auto ecm but the MIL will stay on and I believe lose cruise control
I have an 03 coupe auto and I want to make it manual and I have no idea on how to do it myself so i would have to take it to the shop, how much would that cost me?
I have no idea since I do all my work myself. But judged from cost of parts alone and a couple days labor I would imagine there to definitely be a comma in the price tag
I did a manual swap on my g35 a few months ago, did you keep your auto ecu? Because i did, and i have a check engine light because of it. How would I remove this?
Correct there isn’t a tune on the motor. I have DCSport even flow headers and catless downpipes linked to an Invidia true dual exhaust with an x pipe and muffler delete
@@DripMyWhip you think I could make a hr 08 g35 pop ? What’s the best way because I don’t know anybody with a g that pops without the tune except for the older models with the key trick . But 08 have a push start .
These cars are difficult to bleed the cooling system I would suggest getting a bleeder funnel from harbor freight and jacking the front up just a little to raise the radiator over the heater core
As you heard me in the video the wire was for testing to make sure it was the right one. And the clutch pedal has already been sealed and welded to the frame so no worries 🫡
It’s definitely not cost effective purchasing two cars to make one but for me it worked out since I already had the shell due to a previous series and all the parts needed for the swap were already in my garage.
I didn’t elaborate what I meant in the video but you’re correct just a manual trans. I said manual engine referring to the different pilot bearings the engines have depending on what transmission is mounted from factory. Auto engines have a larger bearing wrapped around the outside of the crank where as manual engines have a pilot bearing inserted in the crankshaft itself. Make sure to have the right one back there before you change transmission types 🤝
As much as that sounds fun that’s a task for a full custom shop to fab a tunnel, create different subframes and cradles and much more. If you want a vq that’s rwd it’s best to choose a Z/g chassis. Also the 3.5 vq in the Altima is not the same motor so that will have to be changed as well they have different blocks

Not sure I think a tuner can flash the codes away. I don’t have cats so I haven’t tried to do anything about the light on
I believe it needs a tune of some sort. Mine is a manual swap and I had the CEL on as well but I had mine flashed/tuned to remove the CEL

Hey Man quick question did you use the same drift shaft or did u have to get the shorter one from the coupe
The coupe and sedan have the same length drive shaft but one thing to note is the manual driveshaft is different from the auto
so did you run the auto ecu & auto harness still or full coversion harness ecu etc
Stock harness and computer 🤝 but note I had to jump a wire permanently in the fuse box behind the battery to get the car to start
