This video shows how to create an image of your signature with a transparent background using Windows 7 (or newer) and Paint.net.
Paint.net is a free utility for editing images. You can get it here:
www.getpaint.net
Once you create the image of your signature with a transparent background, you can insert it into Word (and other) documents and position it over a signature line, and the line will show through as if you actually hand-wrote the signature. You can also save it as an AutoText entry to make it quick to pop into any document, any time.

You actually CAN modify an image size from it's corner manually with the mouse WITHOUT losing the proportion of it's size: always use the CORNERS (no matter which one you prefer, but i think that the sides works too) but, before clicking on them press SHIFT key and mantain it pressed, then click and resize the image: voilà. Hope u read this comment. Greets 2022.
ps. the SHIFT key feature works on almost all image manipulation programs.

if you keep SHIFT key hold and click on it, you can remove all undesirable areas at once. no need to click for each separated area.

You are so welcome, I am thrilled to hear it! For a second I thought you were joking saying that you learned how to put MY signature on YOUR documents. Haha - I was going to say, just don't promise anyone any money with that signature...

Thank you for your given reply I think I come across in the wrong way, and now looking back at my last comment sent I can see why you thought I was using your signature, What I meant to say was my signature on my docs, not your signature sorry for the confusion Laura, and many thanks to you I am now able to insert my own signature into my docs, I had no intention of using your signature Laura bless you, and now practising on some blank docs using some of your many videos, I have you on my laptop on youtube so I can stop and rewind and playback while using my desktop using word 365 in which to practice on I am so glad I found your channel and subscribed, and once again Laura thank you for your lovely reply.

I would advise caution when you tell people to download things off the internet. The button you held your mouse over actually appears to be a fake ad "download button".
I just want to point out for everyone who isnt familiar with pcs and the internet and everything. Do not click on the downloadbutton that shows up at 2:58 that she is hovering her mouse over, its a fake downloadbutton. The actual downloadbutton is the one in the top right that says "Get it now (free download): paint.net [ ...and then the version number here ] " . You can always tell what a fake downloadbutton is when you see this little blue triangle that looks like a "play" button, next to the little x in the top right of the outline of the green downloadbutton. Its a very common ad, placed on many websites to trick people into downloading software that they dont need and I cant tell you how many times my grand dad already fell for this one. It must have been countless times.

I followed your steps exactly and tried to create a Stamp in Adobe Acrobat Pro. I saved the signature as a PNG, TIFF, JPEG and all of them kept a solid white background. Do you know how to make it transparent in Acrobat?

Great tutorial...! Hey for another great program, an alternative to MSoffice is 'Open Office'. It's been around a long time, is open source and is my go to for docs, spreasheets and more. And yeah, it's free as well. Sorry Adobe and MS.
Thanks Lila! Open Office is great for some things and yes it's free, but most of the people I work with are at law firms and Open Office is just not sophisticated enough for the complex formatting they have to do. But for the average person it is a great alternative to buying MS Office.
I wasn't really suggesting it for law firms. They can, well hopefully can afford Office. Those of us using paint.net instead of photoshop usually don't want or can't afford to pay for Office either.
