As a Pyrotechnician with the highest license grade possible. A lil funfact is needed. If u got firworks that you have lit on fire but no joy. Drown it in a bucket of water. The only thing u are instructed to do as a shop if a customer comes with larger stuff that was only partialy egnited is storing it in a bucket of water for atleast 50h

The skyrockets I used to do as a kid in my parents' and friends' parents pools. They work quite well! In the mid-90s, I went down to Rosarito Beach in Mexico and bought a bag of M-80s ($3 for a bag of 20 or something like that at the time!) and a bunch of skyrockets. They looked like homemade dynamite on a stick. I laid the first rocket on the ground near the water aiming to the breaking waves and lit the fuse. Seeing as how crude looking it was, I wasn't expecting much. Well, ignition, and the rocket barreled into the waves. 'That was a waste' came to mind. Then....BOOOOOOOOOM!!! Even underwater. I did several into the sky. Even at night, they were not visually stimulating, but boy, the BOOOOOOOOOOOMS!!! were incredible. I did a few more into the waves. Incredible performance in and out of the water! On a side note--in Tijuana at the time, there were quite a few fireworks shops located in indoor mall type of buildings. If you asked nice enough, they always had a few sticks of homemade dynamite they would sell you for a few dollars. I never tried those in the water. Also, I never had a dud! Good times...
since recently Ive started to wear safety glasses when doing fireworks. they don't bother me, in fact I constantly forget I put them on, but when some fireworks come clsoer to my face than expected I feel safe and I think that the most important thing about lighting fireworks is doing it safely

Fire needs heat, fuel, and oxygen, take any 1 of those things away, or limit the availability of any 1 or more from the amount needed in relation to the optimal ratio of heat, fuel and oxygen and the fire will die.
Normally water puts fire out because it takes heat away. The fireworks that are working under water will be making more heat, enough so that the water isn't cooling it too much. The potassium nitrate in the fireworks are providing the available oxygen, and depending if its black powder or not, the fuel will be from sulphur, charcoal, dextrin, or sugar etc.

You should try taping small rocks to the bottle rockets (or other rockets that have the separate chamber), lighting the fuse, waiting for the first chamber to ignite and then throwing it into the water....submerged it will go off like a depth charge...

I wonder if the 'traditional' sparklers on the metal sticks would stay lit. I can see how paper would get soaked using these paper-type ones, but those metal ones are notorious for burning at a very high temperature, and I recall the city of L.A. way back in the 1980s having PR campaigns warning us citizen dummies how those metal sparklers aren't so innocent, especially for kids.
