I know! Like, some parts were mean, but looking back on it now it is pretty bloody awful ffs 😮 Luxeria has a series of re-watches old TV shows from early 00s like this, the Swan, Trinny & Susana and it's an eye-opener ngl 😅
I would literally use this show as **inspiration for my ED last year and before then. It's really not good for people who struggle with any sort of disorder with food.
also as someone who has struggled with my weight & the food i eat, to me this show feels very toxic. to get someone who barely struggles to eat the right amount of food each day, to then give them the complete opposite is so wrong, they're just throwing them in the deep end and near enough forcing them to do this. i still struggle to this day and watching this i just felt uncomfortable. idk the show just feels weird.
This time in TV is truly a sight to behold. So many dumb and outlandish concepts all packed into a 20-30 minute run time with a dash of new person(s) each episode.
Yes, I was on that series with my mum (we did the first double swap) and my reaction meant American people thought I hated their country. In reality. I did feel really bad for the people behind the screen because Christian Jessen literally spent about 5 hours over the course of the week and final weigh in. He didn’t produce any of the nutrition plans etc. he was just a popular on screen doctor at the time
Watching this show helped my ED, because it showed me exactly what y diet looked like from the outside. It was easy for me to look at the feeding tubes on the TV and tell them in my head that they weren't eating enough, something I realised I couldn't do for myself. A lot of people with EDs did not have this response, so I completely understand your point about how it could be harmful.
early version of the show got in trouble for the food waste of the tube and (I think) also got in trouble of showing accurate annarexic diet values, later epsiodes toned up the anna food take to 500 cal less than normal
I've literally eaten like both of those girls at different points in my life. I was big for most of my life and then lost a lot of weight. And it took a massive toll. I murdered my gallbladder because of it and had to have it removed. Recently though I've become vegetarian and am trying to eat healthy portions. It sucks having issues surrounding food because you have to eat to keep living. But yeah, this show is definitely wild! 😂 And you can make anything funny Cam. ❤ Thanks for always making me laugh! 🥰
@@CamKirkham All okay now! Over 8 years in recovery. Thank you! It’s actually a good shock to the system to see these shows again as it shows how far I’ve come!
i remember secretly watching this as a 9 yr old and my mam overhearing and asking why i was watching a diet show 💀😭 i was so panicked and said it was an ad idk why i was so ashamed to watch it…. but it also made 9 yr old me not want to eat “bad foods” in front of people
Lmao, that's wild to me, considering my mum would ask me if I wanted to watch it with her from when I was about age 6. The answer was yes, I enjoyed it. I'm lucky it didn't give me any issues (though that, plus other factors, are probably why I now mentally struggle with the fact I'm overweight 🙃)
@@ryan-anarchist-2535 the older generations are so crazy my mam used to take me to slimming world with her ? Like what did they think the positive outcome of kids learning about foods that are labelled as “sins” would be
I've had a 12 year long struggle with disordered eating and anorexia. When I'm in my bad periods, I will actively watch these shows and I don't know why
I think these shows had the idea of ‘tough love’ to help. I believe they don’t exist now because so much more research and information is available! The tough love doesn’t always help, these shows were meant to help but just think it’s too extreme and wouldn’t help someone with an eating disorder or something. But I do think the shock tactic of seeing the meals can help the overweight contestant but not sure if it would help the slimmer one? Love your videos Cam! ❤
Good god i forgot this was a TV show put on in england, a classic era of britsh telly where no punches were pulled and if you looked different to everyone else you had a show made for you to star on 🤣
I hate to admit that when I was really deep into my ED I used to watch this almost all day every day and even now I watch it every so often when I start to relapse
Coffee is the key! I gained 40kgs from meds. Got it. Everyone helped me when I was anorexic. When I literally became obese, there was no help. Had to ask for an insulin test. Everything changed from psychiatric meds. Lost about 12 kg from starting insulin medication to counteract the other meds.
I loved this show as both aren’t healthy and damaging there health by over eating or under eating but I mean they don’t half get angry when they can’t get there foods but that’s what food addiction does it takes over there life
If u were my grandson I would be so chuffed...what an astute Young lad . You actually teach the elders what's going on...online...the comedy is priceless ❤
Compulsive overeating disorder is a valid eating disorder as well. I have bulimia and am 240lb fatphobia and body shaming as a whole is vile and the comments from all parties here suck. I starve myself instead of purging now but this kind of stuff makes me feel like I don’t deserve to eat
I remember watching this show when BED was just beginning to be recognized as an ED. I was always so sad for the mothers that would be on the show talking about how they either never ate because they were so busy, or they ate so much because of the stress they felt. But overall watching the show was not good at all for my mental health or body image.
Did anyone else have to watch this at school as part of health ed? We would get forced into watching it then the teacher would point out people in the class of who would be the supersize and who would be the superskinny, school was not great
See I think this series actually helps people with eating disorders, as it opens the contestants eyes (the SuperSkinny realises that they’re starving the supersize, and the supersize realises that their food is too much for most people to handle), the series also gives the contestants the opportunity to discover their routes for their eating disorder, as well as showing them how their ways is killing them. Then the show ends with a customised diet plan and the weight reveal. The show does have some controversies, but it has to be drastic to wake the contestants up as well as any viewers going through the same thing. Honestly I think the show should come back and air everywhere with eating disorders being at a height after the pandemic it’s time people start being healthy again
It literally caused people to have ED’s so your take isn’t the best, many people saw the methods of how the super skinny people were staying underweight and did those methods themselves. It was an awful show that just humiliated people and helped ED’s. Mimicking people’s diets isn’t going to help, many contestants on the show ended up relapsing. They barely got any help after and were just seen as jokes and there to be body shamed, it’s an extremely toxic show. Bringing it back would cause more people to be unhealthy. 🤦🏽♀️
I watched this show in a year 9 pe lesson, they went to a plastic surgery hospital. It went a bit like this.. Host: “we are here at the *insert name of hospital*, i heard you just got liposuction and breast implants, can we see?” This random girl: “yeah!” *proceeds to lift her shirt/hospital gown* - Me and my friends: “OH MY GOD WE JUST GOT FLASHED-!!”
i used to religiously watch this as a kid and young teenager to fuel my unhealthy habits and give myself goalposts fun fact they made a kids/teens version of this show in which they got literal children to basically be humiliated on tv
as someone who's struggled with an ED, me and everyone else I knew with one, would watch this so we would put ourselves off?? like watch people eat disgusting amounts so we wouldn't.
I think having the contestants in their underwear was to show how bad the diets are for them both so when they see the food the other person has on the reg they have another shock to change it to a healthy diet
