I really hope the negative commentators people are not bombarding the zoo with complaints without properly researching gorilla behaviour and not applying HUMAN standards towards their behaviour. It’s very irritating just reading some of the comments.
Not sure what happened there, but Momontero gave Gentaro quite the look. It was a "Listen kid, sit down, shut up, and dont try my patience child" Boys he was mad. Genki was made at Gentaro too wow.
I love Gentaro as much as the rest, but man him and that stick scare me. I don’t want him hurt, but maybe if Momo pinned him down it might scare him enough to stop that. He’s gonna hurt one of them, Mom or baby is who I worry about the most.
@@lady4vols I have to wonder about Genkis frame of mind. She got a long well with the male gorillas in her setting before Kyoto. They said there was a problem with the females and she began mutilating herself. Id like to know more about that. I think it might teach us something about why she intercedes with Momotaro on behalf of Gentaro. Could her interference be some of the reason Momotaro doesn't bother to correct Gentaro? When he gets in trouble he goes and seeks sympathy making Momotaro the bad guy and make everyone keepers included. When he gets all the positive attention instead of focusing on him being corrected and letting his father correct him and teach him they send Gentaro mixed messages. I wonder what makes Genki feel she has to stick up for him when he is wrong. What happened in Genkis life that made her mutilate herself and could it have anything to do with her inability to let Momotaro punish Gentaro.
@@ritaamunrud4201 my understanding is she was the head female and when they put the other younger female in there and her rank changed, the other female started bullying her. That’s why they moved her, she was chewing her fingers off. She was traumatized and I can’t imagine Gentaro when he gets worked up, is easy on her stressed wise.

It certainly ties their hands.I knew it had something to do with other females but couldn't remember the specifics. That may explain why she tries to stop contentions. Maybe it triggers her ptsd when their is violence or aggression from Momotaro toward Gentaro. That would make sense out of her responses. After each time Momotaro tries to reproach Gentaro she tries to stop him and then fussed over Gentaros wounds. Wow your information just answered two questions. I hope they are able to find solutions.
Looked like brave Kintaro was trying to distract Gentaro from harassing Genki. He kept tapping Gentaro. Like "hey come play with me instead." Lol! Kintaro loves his mommy.

Here is a video with a log and Gentaro terrorizing Genki and Kentaro. Hopefully no one get hurt with him going ballistic in a place they cannot escape his hostilities. Let's try supporting the zoo and hope they can bring in enough money to make better lives for every one. I think Gentaro would miss his family a bit but being able to practice being a powerful male gorilla that might one day earn a troop of his own. That way Gentaros fan club can watch their favorite boy grow into manhood and earn the right to mate as an alpha Silverback. Those who love Kintaro can see their gorilla grow into manhood. Momotaro can continue to mate and have babies with Genki and possibly gain another female so he can mate with females and enjoy his babies until its time for them to move on. After all I think we all would like to see them reach their potential and teach us by viewing them in their majesty. How fortunate we are to be able to learn about them by watching them. Sometimes we are shocked, sometimes concerned,sometimes in awe and fascination but always in gratitude for the work they do to make it possible. I think many of us are envious of the close relationship the keepers have with them. I know personally I'd love to have a job like theirs. Work would not be work at all. A labor of love for many of us no doubt. Thank you for putting up with us as we clamor to try and understand what we see and try to be thankful to the keepers who do their best to share everything with us. Thank you and please accept my apology for allowing myself to be anything but appreciative. Thank you Kyoto Zoo for entertaining and teaching us what we can only surmise. We are lucky to have such dedicated and caring keepers when at times we must seem selfish and demanding.
When its his dad Kentaro stops or cowers but then as soon as dads short attention span disapates Kentaro is off to do something else. Kentaro is able to just let it roll off his back while Gentaro pouts and then seeks sympathy from Genki and the keepers. That interference from Genki has made him into a bit of a cross, bully and sissy. If her were moved to a group of bachelors it make cure him of that and his finger sucking. If he didn't grow out of those behaviors it may mean a low position on the hierarchy of a bachelor troop and likely would not win him status as a dominant Silverback. I'm interested in other thoughts on this subject. Im not looking to argue or get into a combative dialog. Im interested in other forensic behavior theories. Im not looking for name calling or rudeness opinions based on solid theories only please
Thanks for finding that for me. I was thinking if they leave Kentaro and Gentaro together another 4 years my bet is on Kentaro. He continues to play with Gentaro no matter if he hurts him or demands sexual attention from him. If he is still there in another 4 years I predict Kentaro is going to be a match for Genky who regularly looses his bowels while Kentaro takes it and comes back for more.
Sorry I wrote Genki instead of Gentaro. I wonder what name they will come up with for a new baby. Maybe they could submit a place for a little money people could submit names. If they could utilize some contests they could make some much needed cash flow to update their habitat and improve their lives. Who wouldn't put in some money to win a chance to go to Kyoto zoo and go behind the scenes to meet the family. Maybe we could do something to help our gorillas have a better life instead of just complaining? Who wouldn't want to get up close and personal with the entire family? What improvements could take place for both health and wellbeing. If Genki gets pregnant she need to have extra food that will help ensure a strong gestation period. Not just more food but food to make her stronger for a healthier pregnancy and be able to give the baby milk that does not have to be given to the infant though I think interacting with the gorillas by the keepers make for a more interesting interactions and observations for us. Perhaps a live feed could be used by metering it and charging or paid subscriptions to see even more content than the free posts. Later as new live access those videos could be free after a week or so. The zoo could do so much more if they had the money to do it. Im sure there are a lot of great ideas out there that can be done to generate money to benefit the gorillas. Anyone have any ideas?
Agreed. He's even tried mating with her or has mated with her. If she is in estrous and he's hormonal, how he's been mating with Kintaro for already close to two years, he will mate with Genki ( think he has in past), if she gets pregnant they will say its Momo's. Heck Momo can only get it on with Kintaro. He's use to Kintaro getting in front of him bending over and Momo doing his thing. He no longer wants female Genki, he wants only his son. He was raised with many older male gorillas and that's all he knows. When he mated with Genki she was younger, pursued him and... and then miraculously again he mated to have Kintaro. But now that he has Kintaro, he doesnt need or want poor Genki. If Shabani was there Genki would've got pregnant 3 times over. He takes care of his male business.

Maybe Genki should pick up that long stick that Gentaro keeps trying to throw at her, and when Gentaro comes running by, she should hit him hard with it. (I really don't think that would solve the problem, but it might make him want to stay away from her for at least a little while though lol). If Gentaro is looking for attention, he is getting it, because every time he misbehaves towards her, Genki is running after him.
Well for one thing these are gorillas, not humans so it isn't called domestic violence. It is called hormones. Gentaro is coming to the age of being a black back, and he is all full of hormones and he doesn't know how to act with them growing rampant. I don't know why people project their humanness on to animals. They act on instinct for the most part!!!
Well Said, The level of testosterone in all of the males of the Momotaro family is very high at the moment as Momo and Genki have been mating often lately and there is a lot of sexual behavior in all of the males here. This is nature NOT aggression. Gentaro will have a female of his own one day and he will calm down to the beautiful silver back that he will become. Males in any group always challenge others as part of the journey to adulthood.

I think Gentaro is an angry gorilla. He never seems to be satiated. I think some of his problem is that he never bonded. He was been behaving like this for years he is just getting bigger. I hope they find a place where he could be happy. He might be much happier where he can play with other gorillas his own age.

Every time that momo steps in to help genki, then she gets mad and chases him around. After a while he just gave up, now she can handle it herself. If it gets serious he will still step in.
I love seeing Momotaro running after his oldest son. Then Kintaro trying to protect his mom and him beating his chest. They are so cute together. Then Momataro turns his back on the others and looks over his shoulder to act like he is not paying attention to what is going on around him. Funny. How are they all feeling now? Always lean on God

Their enclosures are designed to make them feel as if they are living in a natural environment. It’s going to have sticks, any ape enclosure that isn’t some backwoods Chinese hellhole is going to have sticks, because it has trees. If you took out everything that can be used as a weapon they would just be sitting in the dirt, because they have no trees, no rocks. Thanks for your straight up moronic suggestion though, I’m sure they’ll get right on it.
Dad rarely gets involved it would be nice to be able to observe the interactions.. Why have cameras pointed at knotted woven fire hose that keeps us from being able to enjoy their behavior. Why bother with cameras if we can't see them? If you must keep it hang it from the ceiling
Genki goes to Gentaros aid. She is the only one who can reprimand her children. It is a curious aspect to her mothering style. She makes Momotaro look like a cuckold so why would he bother.
Why is Gentaro so angry and mean towards his mother? Could it cause her to miscarry a baby she may be carrying.? He is certainly a spiteful teenager. Maybe he needs some other friend his own size to bully. You have to give credit to little Kintaro for standing up for his mother
Momotaro has no say in his own house. If Momotaro gets involved she defends him and then he and Genki run after Momtaro screaming as he runs away. He probably feels like a human male if his wife were making him look like a weak primate. He may be more interested in breeding with her if she showed him some respect.

After watching this again I thought if Gentaro was living with a few blackbacks his behavior wouldn't be deemed abusive at all. Its easy to picture a group of young male gorillas interacting physically to become stronger and emotionally and mentally sharper and more confident. Its gone beyond Gentaro being jealous and angry. He is a maturing male that by nature leaves the family and learns what is expected of him by nature. His aggression seems misplaced because he has no proper place to behave the way he would in a place with other males going through the same thing

Yup he's trying to show dominance. It won't be long before a physical altercation between Silverback Momo and that son of his. Once they send gentaro away- see how brave he will be trying to beat on other bachelors, like he's so mean to Genki always. Hopefully he won't be bad like he is if he's sent with a female. They should put him with tayari, she's like a silverback herself, she will probably battle with him if he tries to hurt her.

It's nice to watch them individually but this gorilla troop does not seem to be a happy family. I find it hard to watch at times. You can feel the tense anxiety.
They need to move that thing in front of us and the gorillas. Uts right in the line of sight so we can't see what is going on. Tack both side up making a big hammock but remove it from the line of sight. People want to watch the gorillas and that thing never gets played on. Make a bed out of it and see how that works but we want to see what they are doing

Once again we ate unable to view the interactions. This time all 3 are reacting to Gentaro which is rare but we can't see the interaction but in bits and pieces. Surely there could be a better spot for the curtain obscuring out viewing.
This behaviour from Gentaro is called domestic violence and he is aggressive. He doesn’t belong in the group anymore and needs to have his own family away from there. Lazy Momo doesn’t do much to protect Genki. 😢 the zoo don’t care as the whole aggressive situation is entertaining to them. Not a good outcome for the gorillas.
Before you throw baseless accusations around about the zoo/keepers, you should probably do some research into gorilla behavior. The keepers at the Kyoto Zoo care a great deal for this group of great apes. They have done an incredible job of caring for them, despite the difficulties that have occurred over the past couple of years. They also have a far better grasp of gorilla behavior than any of us --- armchair gorilla experts --- outside of the situation do. You are making the mistake of applying human standards to these magnificent creatures. They are not human beings. They're animals with their own way of behaving and dealing with that behavior. If you find this behavior upsetting, perhaps, you shouldn't watch these particular videos rather than make accusations against the keepers who know them far better than you or I do. An apology to the keepers would be appropriate.

@@suannejade thank you. I worry that if people bombard the zoo with complaints, they might put an end to the animals being filmed. That would be a truly sad thing. The keepers have a far better knowledge of these beautiful creatures than the rest of us do. I imagine their love for them is superior to ours and they would do everything possible to take great care of them. People who are upset by the video need not watch. No one is forcing them to. Have a beautiful, joyful day!

Why hasn't the zoo took that large stick away, Gentaro is a bully to his mum and Kintaro who as we know is 3 yrs old, is it Normal for a 10yr old to force a 3yr old to have sex,Kintaro doesn't know any better, as for Gentaro he was spoilt by the carer's, and he had Genki's attention until Kintaro came along, Momotaro need's to wake up before something bad happen's, Shabani wouldn't sit back, his son Kyomasa and Annie are absolutely different, Kyomasa will be an amazing gorilla unlike Gentaro, get him out of there 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Gentaro needs a time out for two days. And his dad needs to protect his wife better . The dad is acting like a little punk with his eldest son. But yet and still he was there hurting his wife like a punk.
His intelligence, aggression and what his plans are for his mother ( seriously injure/kill her - God forbid) are evident by him grabbing the stick and chasing with it. He's clearly already trying to show dominance against Momo as he clearly knows Momo is looking at him. Or is he is also thinking he can use the weapon against Momo? Mmmmm, he needs to go. He may even hit Kinny with one swap ( out of jealousy) and hurt or kill him. Also... I dont see any negative comments. I only see comments of concern which many viewers choose to ignore because of favoritism towards a particular primate. Commenters have the right to express their viewpoint without having to declare their PhD, etc. Having watched gorilla videos for several years does not mean a person is schooled on primate behavior and they have to post for others to educate themselves! As far as calling the zoo, personally this is just a break for us over here and we have an overwhelming schedule and have no time to make phone calls of as any sort. However, it's everyone's perogative to call whomever they feel like calling; each commenter has their right to their opinion ( within guidelines) or to call whomever and follow up if they can and want to!
Genki has to be exhausted from all of that. Kintaro is the best little protector. I am proud of him and trying to help Mom. 💜💜

Momotaro can continue to mate and have babies with Genki and possibly gain another female so he can mate with females and enjoy his babies until its time for them to move on. After all I think we all would like to see them reach their potential and teach us by viewing them in their majesty. How fortunate we are to be able to learn about them by watching them. Sometimes we are shocked, sometimes concerned,sometimes in awe and fascination but always in gratitude for the work they do to make it possible. I think many of us are envious of the close relationship the keepers have with them. I know personally I'd love to have a job like theirs. Work would not be work at all. A labor of love for many of us no doubt. Thank you for putting up with us as we clamor to try and understand what we see and try to be thankful to the keepers who do their best to share everything with us. Thank you and please accept my apology for allowing myself to be anything but appreciative. Thank you Kyoto Zoo for entertaining and teaching us what we can only surmise. We are lucky to have such dedicated and caring keepers when at times we must seem selfish and demanding.
When its his dad Kentaro stops or cowers but then as soon as dads short attention span disapates Kentaro is off to do something else. Kentaro is able to just let it roll off his back while Gentaro pouts and then seeks sympathy from Genki and the keepers. That interference from Genki has made him into a bit of a cross, bully and sissy. If her were moved to a group of bachelors it make cure him of that and his finger sucking. If he didn't grow out of those behaviors it may mean a low position on the hierarchy of a bachelor troop and likely would not win him status as a dominant Silverback.
I'm interested in other thoughts on this subject. Im not looking to argue or get into a combative dialog. Im interested in other forensic behavior theories. Im not looking for name calling or rudeness opinions based on solid theories only please
Thanks for finding that for me. I was thinking if they leave Kentaro and Gentaro together another 4 years my bet is on Kentaro. He continues to play with Gentaro no matter if he hurts him or demands sexual attention from him. If he is still there in another 4 years I predict Kentaro is going to be a match for Genky who regularly looses his bowels while Kentaro takes it and comes back for more.
Sorry I wrote Genki instead of Gentaro. I wonder what name they will come up with for a new baby. Maybe they could submit a place for a little money people could submit names. If they could utilize some contests they could make some much needed cash flow to update their habitat and improve their lives. Who wouldn't put in some money to win a chance to go to Kyoto zoo and go behind the scenes to meet the family. Maybe we could do something to help our gorillas have a better life instead of just complaining? Who wouldn't want to get up close and personal with the entire family? What improvements could take place for both health and wellbeing. If Genki gets pregnant she need to have extra food that will help ensure a strong gestation period. Not just more food but food to make her stronger for a healthier pregnancy and be able to give the baby milk that does not have to be given to the infant though I think interacting with the gorillas by the keepers make for a more interesting interactions and observations for us.
Perhaps a live feed could be used by metering it and charging or paid subscriptions to see even more content than the free posts. Later as new live access those videos could be free after a week or so.
The zoo could do so much more if they had the money to do it. Im sure there are a lot of great ideas out there that can be done to generate money to benefit the gorillas. Anyone have any ideas?

Agreed. He's even tried mating with her or has mated with her. If she is in estrous and he's hormonal, how he's been mating with Kintaro for already close to two years, he will mate with Genki ( think he has in past), if she gets pregnant they will say its Momo's. Heck Momo can only get it on with Kintaro. He's use to Kintaro getting in front of him bending over and Momo doing his thing. He no longer wants female Genki, he wants only his son. He was raised with many older male gorillas and that's all he knows. When he mated with Genki she was younger, pursued him and... and then miraculously again he mated to have Kintaro. But now that he has Kintaro, he doesnt need or want poor Genki. If Shabani was there Genki would've got pregnant 3 times over. He takes care of his male business.

Maybe Genki should pick up that long stick that Gentaro keeps trying to throw at her, and when Gentaro comes running by, she should hit him hard with it. (I really don't think that would solve the problem, but it might make him want to stay away from her for at least a little while though lol). If Gentaro is looking for attention, he is getting it, because every time he misbehaves towards her, Genki is running after him.

Well for one thing these are gorillas, not humans so it isn't called domestic violence. It is called hormones. Gentaro is coming to the age of being a black back, and he is all full of hormones and he doesn't know how to act with them growing rampant. I don't know why people project their humanness on to animals. They act on instinct for the most part!!!

The level of testosterone in all of the males of the Momotaro family is very high at the moment as Momo and Genki have been mating often lately and there is a lot of sexual behavior in all of the males here. This is nature NOT aggression. Gentaro will have a female of his own one day and he will calm down to the beautiful silver back that he will become. Males in any group always challenge others as part of the journey to adulthood.

I think Gentaro is an angry gorilla. He never seems to be satiated. I think some of his problem is that he never bonded. He was been behaving like this for years he is just getting bigger. I hope they find a place where he could be happy. He might be much happier where he can play with other gorillas his own age.

Every time that momo steps in to help genki, then she gets mad and chases him around. After a while he just gave up, now she can handle it herself. If it gets serious he will still step in.

Their enclosures are designed to make them feel as if they are living in a natural environment. It’s going to have sticks, any ape enclosure that isn’t some backwoods Chinese hellhole is going to have sticks, because it has trees. If you took out everything that can be used as a weapon they would just be sitting in the dirt, because they have no trees, no rocks. Genki goes to Gentaros aid. She is the only one who can reprimand her children. It is a curious aspect to her mothering style. She makes Momotaro look like a cuckold so why would he bother.

Momotaro has no say in his own house. If Momotaro gets involved she defends him and then he and Genki run after Momtaro screaming as he runs away. He probably feels like a human male if his wife were making him look like a weak primate. He may be more interested in breeding with her if she showed him some respect.
The keepers really should remove those types of weapons from the grounds.

After watching this again I thought if Gentaro was living with a few blackbacks his behavior wouldn't be deemed abusive at all. Its easy to picture a group of young male gorillas interacting physically to become stronger and emotionally and mentally sharper and more confident. Its gone beyond Gentaro being jealous and angry. He is a maturing male that by nature leaves the family and learns what is expected of him by nature. His aggression seems misplaced because he has no proper place to behave the way he would in a place with other males going through the same thing

Once again we ate unable to view the interactions. This time all 3 are reacting to Gentaro which is rare but we can't see the interaction but in bits and pieces. Surely there could be a better spot for the curtain obscuring out viewing.
This behaviour from Gentaro is called domestic violence and he is aggressive. He doesn’t belong in the group anymore and needs to have his own family away from there. Lazy Momo doesn’t do much to protect Genki. 😢 the zoo don’t care as the whole aggressive situation is entertaining to them. Not a good outcome for the gorillas.
Before you throw baseless accusations around about the zoo/keepers, you should probably do some research into gorilla behavior. The keepers at the Kyoto Zoo care a great deal for this group of great apes. They have done an incredible job of caring for them, despite the difficulties that have occurred over the past couple of years. They also have a far better grasp of gorilla behavior than any of us --- armchair gorilla experts --- outside of the situation do. You are making the mistake of applying human standards to these magnificent creatures. They are not human beings. They're animals with their own way of behaving and dealing with that behavior. If you find this behavior upsetting, perhaps, you shouldn't watch these particular videos rather than make accusations against the keepers who know them far better than you or I do. An apology to the keepers would be appropriate.

The keepers have a far better knowledge of these beautiful creatures than the rest of us do. I imagine their love for them is superior to ours and they would do everything possible to take great care of them. People who are upset by the video need not watch. No one is forcing them to. Commenters have the right to express their viewpoint without having to declare their PhD, etc. Having watched gorilla videos for several years does not mean a person is schooled on primate behavior and they have to post for others to educate themselves!
As far as calling the zoo, personally this is just a break for us over here and we have an overwhelming schedule and have no time to make phone calls of as any sort. However, it's everyone's perogative to call whomever they feel like calling; each commenter has their right to their opinion ( within guidelines) or to call whomever and follow up if they can and want to!
