- Mars through my 6" Orion XT6 plus dobsonian telescope!
Average seeing conditions. I'm convinced better footage will come.

That is impressive and goes to show you that a classic newtonian is tough to beat.
An elegant invention the Dob
For beeter image u should have use registax 6 also. Great image
Wow! Awesome work ! Of all the videos of Mars on RUclips this is one of thee best! It takes knowing the camera as well as knowing the telescope! Great job, keep it up!
thank you kindly, I am a little disappointed I didn't get to spend more time with the setup while Mars was at his closest and the weather warmer
I’m watching mars right now 😊🇬🇧👍
say hi to her for me, cloudy skies tonight
6" f/8 newtonians are excellent for planet&Moon viewing. I have one too and it's an amazing scope. It's a real "bang for the buck".
couldn't agree more. also, depending on your viewing condition/location you can most definitely reach a few galaxies
@@stellarprogression8505 hello!!! I just bought a 6'' dob f/8 telescope. With the 10 mm eyepiece i cant see many details in planets like Mars, Venus, Saturn. What could i buy? A 2x or 3x barlow ? or something else?
@@pqnosal1georgas749 2X barlow for sure if you dont have one already. You do have to remember the skies look different all year round so make sure youve tested your kit under the best conditions possible. For the planets, Venus is constantly shrouded so you cant expect to seemuch detail there, even with a very large scope. Mars at opposition was incredibly detailed but I would assume detail is subpar since its only getting further away until the next opposition. My advice would be to pick up a barlow if you dont have one and try to bring the scope out regularly through the year.
Nice catch!
Wonderful work continued on that
much appreciated! I plan on getting more footage when Mars reaches opposition Oct 13!
Super COOL
Dann insane good seeing
amazing views with this especially if its a dobsonian wow!
Awesome footage i got an 8 inch scope like a month after the opposition and didnt see any surface detail im gonna now have to wait like 2 years for the next slightly worse opposition so jealous that you could see it.
It was an unexplainable feeling, at least to me, and especially so because it was my first time with a proper scope/seeing any planet with my own eye, had to make sure I captured footage and put it somewhere I can always access. I’m sorry you barely missed it. Don’t let this hobby be like the rest, keep pulling the scope out every now and then and you’ll eventually see something you’ll never forget. And try to take advantage of good seeing like good weather and location cause that can drastically improve how much you can see
looks amazing omg
im also planning to get a 6" Dob can you please tell the things that I must learn after getting it like (collimation and other sort of things) to get a good view
ty ;p
Excellent capture!
What eye pieces were you using?
Can I see deep space objects with this? And which brand dob do you use?
What barlow did you use? On my 6 inch dobsonian mars looks very small
Nice shot. What was the music you used for this video by the way?
I forget the name of the song and also the artist but it was from RUclips's copyright free list for sure, I could try to retrieve that info for you!
What was your setup on the 6 in dobson telescope?
Canon Rebel T7i with a t-ring adapter attached to 2x barlow lens!
what lens did you use. Did you use a barlow. Great shots.
Yes, regular 2x barlow from Orion!
Hi, I ordered the xt6 classic dobsonian. Do you get a better view of it looking through the eyepiece in person? or is it the same view as it shows in the video
better in person 100%
make sure you learn how to properly collimate the telescope (should come with a basic collimator eyepiece) and the darker/cleaner the sky the more you will see (check light pollution maps online for areas near you unaffected by light pollution)
@@stellarprogression8505 thanks !! btw how long did it take for you to get it delivered ? I ordered it almost 2 weeks ago and still in the back order :C
@@joaomatinho7019 i had ordered mine before the pandemic so that could be causing delays.. im currently waiting for a carrying case myself also on back order :/
@@stellarprogression8505 Hi again mate. I already used the telescope and I only been able to see the moon (so nicely). However when I point Mars all I see is a little shiny red dot. Just like when viewing it with the naked eye. I used the 25mm with the 2x Barlow and I cannot even the shape of the planet. What am I doing wrong?. Unfortunately I have not been able to spot any other viewable objects due to where I am located.
Nice capture, do i need a 4 or 5 mm eyepiece to see detail with my 10 inch dobsonian? Because i can't see any details with the 10mm plossl i have
very sorry to be so late with my reply. generally, higher magnification is better for closer viewing but results in slightly poorer image quality. If I'm correct, moving up to a 4/5x would only make matters worse, but it could also be collimation or seeing conditions that are degrading your image quality, rather than just your eyepiece. I remember one night not being able to see anything through my 10mm plossl and thinking how useless it was and then on another night, I compared it to another eyepiece I was able to try and could for some reason 100% more detail (most definitely due to better seeing). 10mm is a fairly high magnification and SHOULD do well with something like the Moon or Sun (with solar protection). From my experience, my 10mm does collect the most dust, but I try to use it on the Moon on clear/still nights for up close looks at the craters and mountains, I use 25mm plossl the most for open clusters and 17mm when I want to get up close but maintain detail.
all depends what you're trying to look at as well
@@stellarprogression8505 ofc, lets say seeing conditions are very good and you are far from city and air pollution, now is a 4mm eyepiece the perfect choice for planets or should i go for the 5mm?
@@savtheastroguy if those are your options, I would go for the 5mm myself
I could be wrong but if you couple the 5mm with a barlow, it will result in A LOT of magnification (say somewhere around 450x) and you will most definitely get a blurry, unpleasing visual
Hi, I was undecided lately from buying a dobson 150/1200 classic or a Gso, which is better
Dobson if you want to look at objects for your own personal satisfaction, gso potentially if you want to do some astro photography because you could put it on an equatorial mount
@@stellarprogression8505 Can I see deep sky object with a sw dob 6" ?
Ok then why can't I even come close to this with my 8" Cassegrain?
cassegrains are primarily used for high magnification viewing/processing and this is not that, also, optics can vary between manufacturers, weather varies across the planet (obviously) and so my skies could simply be clearer than yours, there are too many factors
Hubble space telescope quality ☺. I captured Mars as well, although not as crisp as this xD. An earthquake happened when I was also recording it, since I'm in Cali
That's gotta be the most ironic!? I hope you and the ones close to you are okay!
@@stellarprogression8505 it was a measly 4.5M earthquake 😂. Happened on Sept 19 in socal. Mars is bright right now.
Hey there, can you see any galaxies or nebulae with the scope?
100%! When I first took it out I thought I would never find Andromeda, now I never miss it! In my backyard (rural area) it’s better for the planets and the Moon, but at my viewing site, I can consistently find both Bode’s and Cigar galaxies (my favourites as they both lie in the field of view and reveal the famous swirls you see in pictures) , Whirlpool galaxy, Pinwheel, Triangulum, and definitely more. This is the same for brighter nebula! I put my money on believing you could see a few of these with an even smaller scope but if anyone has the money, respect the power of these scopes and go for the biggest scope (dobsonian for personal viewing, not photography) one can afford and move.
@@stellarprogression8505 Wow! I can't wait to buy one and see the M83 galaxy!
Hello rovers
azeoprop I’ll reply again in 5 months when perseverance lands!
It's fake because, I have 6" Dobsonion but Mars looks like a tiny red dot. If u have any solution for me, then please reply
This was captured during the Mars Opposition. The planets location do matters when doing a planetary astronomy
