This 😂 Last night my husband and I had dinner at Longhorn. We had the white cheddar stuffed mushrooms as our appetizer. I had taken the croutons off of my salad and set them on the empty mushroom plate. He started eating the croutons, and I picked one up, ran it through the cheese sauce from the mushrooms and gave it to him to try that way. 😂 Any excuse to pick up some more ooey gooey goodness. 💯 😂

Southern food ways are actually really interesting! While there are some foods that can be considered 'pan southern' there is still a lot of variation to those dishes regionally. Being in New Orleans will have a lot of Cajun influence in that gravy than you would find in gravy from Kentucky or North Carolina. Then there will be foods that are completely southern but only found in a specific part of the south or a specific state. There are whole books written about how food in the south developed.

There are more than you think. Just off the top of my head, some of the more obvious ones include sloppy joe; PB&J; soft drinks (the entire category, but especially root beer and cola); cactus jelly; corn bread; succotash; corn on the cob; popcorn; kettle corn; caramel corn; candy corn; graham crackers; buckeyes; green been casserole; Cool Whip-based (Jell-O and/or fruit) salads; waldorf salad; fortune cookies; condensed cream of tomato soup (unless you consider any soup automatically derivative just because other types of soup existed before); and that stuff with several dozen different names that's made from mini-marshmallows, Cool Whip, crushed pineapple, and pistachio pudding mix.

Thank you for doing these videos. Sometimes I think US cuisine is underrated on the world stage and you are helping change that perception a video at a time. Much obliged, fellows, for showing the world how very, very good our food can be. As the other commentators have pointed out, we took the best from all over the world and ran with it. Add to that glorious international panoply an historical perspective (for example, our biscuits date back to early European settlers- think your navy's hardtack as the starting point- to which we added a bit of rise, fat and other flavors that improved over time) and an understanding of what ethnic groups settled where and a wonderfully complex picture emerges. You could travel the US for many years and still not taste everything there is to offer, but you are both young enough to give it a real go. Thank you for showing that we do not just eat crisps, boxed dinners and swill garishly-colored sugary drinks. Of course, we like those things too🙂but the reality of what we eat lies far beyond these. And the generous South holds a truly unique and special place in US cuisine.

I love these guys so much. I watch Jolly and KE videos after listening to Mr. Ballen tell stories, because they are mostly (but not always) dark, scary and frequently sad. Or watching or news stories (I'm in the US, and there are a LOT of not-good things happening here). So I come to Jolly to lighten my mood and end my viewing day on a positive note. And they never fail to cheer me up. Heck, I think just watching without sounds could make me smile. Their expressions are priceless.

Josh & Ollie, you guys are awesome. As a southern (from Arkansas) 72-year young gay male, I love the fact you guys love our southern cooking. Many things you have eaten used to be called poor folks' food. (That means the same as "comfort food"!) We never considered them delicacies, just down home eatin'. LOL, I do love your comments on our food. We Americans ALL take pride in our vast variety of foodstuffs. That said, I have friends here in Missouri who were born & raised in the UK. The dishes he has made for me are also very awesome. Mates, trust me when I say, we (Yanks & Brits) are cousins. Keep up the great work you do. It is much appreciated.

Gravy is about one of the easiest things to make too. Another thing we (southern americans) put gravy on is white toast. We call it S.O.S. and it came from when people didn't have time to make biscuit dough and then bake them. The gravy is simply sausage or bacon grease, with a little white four mixed in, then add cow's milk, keep stirring and then let it simmer. the longer you stir the thicker it becomes. Then simply serve. It's amazing on anything really.

For the best shrimp and grits you need to go to one of the fish houses that hang out over the water off the coast, or on a river in the middle of nowhere.
Where they bring the catch right up on the dock beside it.
It looks like its been cobbled together from a few other shacks and been added onto over the years with no regard to matching the material of the original structure.
It's worth traveling a few hours just to eat there.

You're doing it right and wrong at the same time. NOLA is one of the world's greatest food cities, and it's extremely hard to find something bad to eat. So it's kind of pointless to review anything. It's all good. That's the downside (if there is one). The upside is that you're in one of the world's greatest culinary destinations. Enjoy!

Here's why Southern biscuits are so made for soaking up gravy; we have sausage gravy, red eye gravy, tomato gravy, chocolate gravy, beef gravy, turkey gravy, chicken gravy, sawmill gravy (white gravy that is pretty much sausage gravy without the sausage, basically), we have lots of gravies, and you need a great bread to soak them all up! And you still need to come to Cleveland County, NC to try real pulled pork and also, LIVERMUSH!!!
