As some stated, do not forget to mention and enjoy the focusing lens under the open sportsfinder window. this is no small added feature but one that only Rollei cameras have and gives you the possibility to “frame and focus” very quickly when using the sportsfinder for super fast shooting at moving events. Look at the construction and you will see how and why it can be very accurate. I have loved and used this model for about 65 years !
After using a few different TLRs there is a clear build quality difference between the Rollei and the rest. The sports finder is a clear difference in my opinion. The little addition of the focus window makes such a big difference. I haven't used mine for anywhere near as long as you, but I can understand why you would want to use one for 65 years. Thanks for the comment
This one is my all time favorite camera as well. You definitely should find yourself a strap for it. It makes carrying it around not only much more comfortable, you can also stabilize the camera with it quite well for longer exposures.
Thank you Chris, For this explanation.. Just bought one… must handle the linked shutter and aperture … at the 2.8 I can adjust independently.. Let’s see. Hallo to Japan I wished to go there! George Weber- Unger Bavaria
Not sure if you realized this but when using the sports finder, you can still focus! If you look through that small lens under the square hole, you can actually see a small part of the ground glass reflected in a mirror on the back of that flap with the Rollei logo on it! Nice photos!
Yea Matt, I noticed that! But, I think the mirror on the inside of the hood is a little off. When I have the sports finder open, I cant really see the middle of the frame. It's not exactly lined up correctly. Haven"t figured out if it's something I'm doing or something else. Hope I can figure it out cause I think the sports finder is cool! Thanks!
Loved your intro ! you're not alone my friend ! haha real men dont need furniture. Just money for Rollei's ! Appreciate you making this video on my favourite camera.
The Rolleiflex, Rolleicord and YashicaMat 124(G) are really plenty of camera. You get a great lens and the large 6x6 film negative. They are also easy to hold.
Loved the video man! Beautiful shots, that Japan light looks so nice in B&W. Really like the compositions you created, especially the shot of the man making noodles. Really appreciate your commentary describing your thought process and the surrounding scenery, something which I think has been lacking from other film photography “walk around” videos. Congrats on the cam, looks beautiful!
Thanks for the constructive words Julian. The noodle guy was my favorite also. The sharpness of the lens really stands out to me on that one too. The face that I can see the hands and numbers on the clock got me. I was literally on the opposite side of an alley to the shop when I took it. Thanks again
Learn something everyday! Never knew what a sportsfinder was, I gotta shoot a TLR sometime. Love that noodle shop shot btw. I thought the bike was actually interesting as it lead to the face in a very abrupt way.
Yo appreciate it bro! Yea sportsfinders are dope. You can change your perspective without adding the eye level finder. And you can even focus on the Rolleiflex with the camera up to your eye
I mean I didnt want to get demonetized lol You"re totally right. When its a different animal, but when its done right it looks great. But when its not on point it looks real bad real quick!
Thank you for the video. I am impressed that your framing and verticals/horizontals are so straight. Do you have any suggestions for keeping things straight and not wonky, despite the reversed viewfinder? Cheers from Canada.
Practice, practice, practice. First time I picked up a TLR a few years back all of my photos were really off. After using the RZ for so long, moving to something like this was easy. Also, a grid ground glass helps, and the real secret is the straightening tool in Lightroom if all else fails lol
Where did the "selfie" idea come from originally? I remember 30 years ago seeing some famous photographer do one but can't place it now. I do remember doing one of myself with my first Rolleiflex.
I mean people were making "selfie" pictures before cameras. People have always been interested in seeing themselves probably as long as we have seen our reflections. "Self-portrait" sounds way more put together and artistic though haha I still need to get a self portrait with the Rollei though!
@@ZoneFocused Yeah, "self portrait" sounds more fitting to film. I am probably thinking of one of the many Vivian Maier images with her Rolleiflex. She seems to pop up most often with self images with that camera.
First, let me just say this….I will be, hopefully, 95 next month and became sort of obsessed with photography at an early age right after the war. You see to take a “selfie” as we call it, you have to hold your camera at arm’s length. well….you also needed a wide angle and not everyone had one handy ! A good friend of mine takes a selfie with me every time we have coffee.she uses her phone like everybody and the first focal length that comes up is a wide angle one. It distorts us but nobody cares anymore, the photo is crooked but that’s OK too !! It’s fun and makes people happy even me !! Without a WA lens on most cameras you also could not focus properly, just check the length of your arm ! You must also aim the best you can, all this became slightly easier lately, don’t forget that the focal length of a lens in a phone is extremely small giving you a very big depth of field. Try this with a Rolleiflex for instance and you will see why doing a decent selfie was pretty well out of question. But you could always place the camera on a steady surface, use the the self timer and take a real nice photo with your love one….Try it!
Let me pick your brain about using the built in light meter.. Do you just follow what needle tells you or have you also adjusted to suit your needs- If that makes sense.. I am new to the TLR family so i'm curious. Dope vid bruv!
Yea in some situations I know it will be wrong because of how the light is. If the subject is back lit then 99% of the time the meter will not read for the subject. If you can meter close to what you are shooting then back up and take the picture that would work too. But generally yes it works pretty well
Im a rollei shooter 1950 3.5a, and i love when my main passion (ramen)enters a camera vid. Hella rad. 2 passions in 1 vid. Cheers.
@@ramenrob3696 A man of good taste 🤌🏽
My kit has always been supported by my Rolleiflex. I love it!

The fact you can expose correctly outside and inside the restaurant was amazing. Loved that photo and congrats again for the camera!
Just happened to have good light to be able to swing it. If it was mid-day it would have been a no go!
This one is my all time favorite camera as well. You definitely should find yourself a strap for it. It makes carrying it around not only much more comfortable, you can also stabilize the camera with it quite well for longer exposures.
Thanks I actually got a strap for it not too long after this video
Great shot of the dogs - two pups: one in focus and one out -- nice contrast
Much appreciated
8:42 🔥
The quality of the lenses are amazing !
Thank you for the review and content very pleasant to watch.

I just got my rolleiflex 3.5 and this pictures just look fire 🔥
Congrats on the Rollei! Have fun with it!
Excellent pictures!!! 👏👏👏
Very good video. I love my '54 3.5 MX-EVS Schneider.
Thanks! Rollei really did a great job with their cameras
The pictures were so sharp, 👍
Its crazy. Cant seem to get my scans that good anymore. Idk what happened, but yea the sharpness was wild
That bike makes the photo for me lol.

Good luck! Have fun with your 2.8, it's a fun camera to use 👍🏽

In my per opinion, your best roll of film yet, amazing results
Much love Jakob! Definitely one of the most fun rolls of medium format I've ever shot!
with the sports finder, there is a small viewfinder under the top one that lets you see some of the ground glass for focusing
Yep its a really nice touch to have
Bless you, my dude! I respect the color commentary, more process videos please!
Noted, thanks man!

Haha facts!
The Rolleiflex, Rolleicord and YashicaMat 124(G) are really plenty of camera. You get a great lens and the large 6x6 film negative. They are also easy to hold.
And they are in a great size and weight package. They are really compact for the size negative they produce.
awesome content bro!
Glad you're enjoying your new camera
Thanks man, Its really fun to use
You can’t beat that 6x6 tri-x look.
Facts!
Great Video. Pleased you got your dream camera. I'd like that camera too. Good job.
It’s coming to you! Keep putting that intention out there!
@@ZoneFocused Thanks Sir
Nice shots and congrats on the grail camera. Really liked the ramen shop pic.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I truly enjoyed this!!!! These photos are so dope🔥🔥🔥

Great shots! Loving this style of video too
Thanks Drew!
Sick shots!
Appreciate it!
Congratulations on finally getting your Dream Camera!
Much love William!
Great shots! I just got my first tlr recently; a Flexaret 7. Such a fun way to take photos.
I'm going to have to look this up! Never heard of a Flexaret. Thanks!
When you said "super asian style", I felt that deeply.
lmao!

makes me feel like taking out my rollei!
Dust it off and give it some love!
"It's not all crotch in the shot, is it?" 😂 Awesome photos, there is a very specific yet hard to describe beauty to square images

Good video.
I have a Yashica mat 124g and I love it!! The meter doesn't work but the camera is nice!!
The Yashicamat is still a really nice camera!

Love that grain. Where did you buy the camera and for how much? I want to buy one too.
eBay, and I got it from Austria. Id say just look there and find something that looks good. Ask a lot of questions. Make sure the accept returns too!
That town looks like Kurashiki in Okayama.
5:38 is my favorite from your first roll :) Hope to see how it renders color film in future videos
Working on that! Thanks!
from one hyper aware intro sayer to another, that intro was too funny man xD
Getting the intro right is like getting off the blocks right in a sprint. If that part is wrong, the whole rest of the race/video is off! lol
Nicebideo!
Thank you! ありがとう🙏🏽🙏🏽
Doing the Shingie intro by mistake smh
Also that area is really nice, low key wanna go to okayama now
