I’m not even much of a fantasy reader but with all of the problems this author has faced, I’m for damn sure going to buy her book

I preordered the audiobook on Audible and they said it was delayed until the end of this month. Yesterday I realized I didn't get a notification about it, so I went on Audible to see. Yep! They pushed it back AGAIN!

Oh wow! Didn't know this was happening! 😮 that is ridiculous. I thought the book was already out!

A lot of people thought it was already it. They aren't doing enough to communicate the date changes.

Her publisher is truly not doing a good job I really feel bad for the author because this must be so stressful

This is honestly really sad. The games some publishers play is why i will probably always stay indie.

This is really unfair, its bad enough that Bethany Baptiste had to deal with the whole CC racist bs but now her publisher is treating her like this??? Disgusting

honestly it almost feels like they are setting this book up for failure on purpose or cause of their bias they aren't giving it the same amount of care they should be

I'm currently listening to this and honestly, it is such a unique book. The fact that there were other witchy books coming out is bull, because I'm 100% they were nothing like this one and the publisher definitely knew that.
I didn't follow up with all the pushbacks but I had seen the book was coming out in March and was so surprised when on the app I use for audiobooks the release date kept on changing.
Or maybe, I shouldn't have been surprised. I should be surprised they published it at all considering how radical and critical of the US and its racism is.

Woah! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I thought the book was out already for February 2024. These constant date changes are really messing up her writing and payment schedules. I hope her book releases sooner than later.

I just started reading The Poisons We Drink and I'm in love with so far. It's so sad Bethany and other POC authors have to go through with this shit. I hope her next book is much easier ❤

I remember watching this unfold. The way Source Books Fire handled this was so unprofessional. And it's a shame because one of the perks of trad pub is supposed to be that authors don't have to handle the marketing or the business end. But Black authors especially keep having to work overtime to cover the huge gaps left by their publisher.

    • @MsWOCReader
      @MsWOCReader  3 месяца назад +1

Black authors have always had to handle the marketing off their books and unfortunately unless the author is considered a priority author for their publisher that isn't changing. We see how they love to only pick one to promote at a time.

I was looking for any videos talking about this book and I found this one! I am so blessed to have finally read this book. Brutal, heart-wrenching, and completely engrossing, definitely one of the most fleshed-out magic systems I've seen in an modern fantasy setting.
I'm frankly disgusted hearing the way Bethany's been treated.
You see all these white debut authors get the red carpet rolled out for them with exclusive deals, covers, and press events. But pushing her release back until it's forced to compete for absolutely no reason?
It's disrespectful and ridiculous all the hoops Black authors have to go through to even get a foot in the door. And once they're there, they have to fight tooth and nail to even get CRUMBS.
Awful all around. Thank you for this video. I'm sorry it had to be made.

Thankful she was able to get the release bumped up a week but still it was ridiculous the way it kept getting pushed back. And then having to fight with her publisher and her agent dropping her because she decided to get out of her contract. Ridiculous!
