Dune: Part 2 Ending Explained - How the Sequel Sets Up Dune Messiah

- Dune is one of those epic sci-fi novels that’s just too big to capture in one movie properly. With Dune: Part 2 hitting theaters, we’ve finally gotten the complete story of Paul Atreides and his rise to power as the Lisan al Gaib. Or have we? House Atreides may have gotten its revenge by the end of the movie, but it’s clear there’s a lot more story to tell where Paul and his family are concerned.
With that in mind, let’s break down the ending to Dune: Part 2 and where it leaves characters like Timothée Chalamet’s Paul, Zendaya’s Chani, and Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan. Where does the story go from here, and why does it appear that these movies are diverging from the books? Here’s everything you need to know about the possible future of the franchise.
Dune: Part 2 also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux. The film is currently playing in theaters.

Why is it surprising theres no post credit scene? This aint marvel cuh
😂 marvel dropped so many superhero movies dey got us in a credit scene chokehold
typical IGN logic, nowadays everyone on Tiktok can call themselves a 'movie critic'
This isn't a gang, blood
Not that Marvel did a bad job in their movies but i’m not speaking about the shitty ones.
Sorry cuh
Dune 2 does not have a post-credits scene because it doesn’t need one.
Because its not a comicbook movie
Post-credit scenes indicate a low quality product
Bcz it's not a movie for kids

"Duncan Idaho will return"
Dune is the "impossible sci-fi book" to translate to film. Villeneuve did about as well as anyone could.
He’s the same genius responsible for the Sicario films. The best in the game right now.
@@madridforever933only the first one.
Sticking to the actual source material would have added only like 5 minutes. This was just something to appease todays politics. Funny though, Dune has it's own political montra that shows the reasons for not allowing such a thing to occur. It's very dissapointing on how far they strayed from the book. Reminds me of the Witcher. Dune Messiah is now going to be all kinds of screwed up and not match at all.
He did a great job with the filming. Then he ruined it by re-writing the end.
@@17planets89The ending is literally identical to the book, except it's made more obvious for the dumb nerds to see that Paul isn't a hero.

The Navegators' guild didnt even make it to the conversation floor to let the houses know why and how Paul is the new emperor. The Navegators were/are as important to the story as the emperor.
Glad you mentioned that. It’s pretty clear they carry the most influence but they’re not even brought in one time in this second film.

They NEED to make Dune Messiah. You cant end Dune where the Dune book ends. You end Dune at Dune Messiah.

Why does movie need Post Credit scene when Paul Dreams are already the future that we gonna see 😅
Anyone else love the movie, but think the way they chopped edited didn’t do the movie justice?
all Paul needed to do was tell the empire he is now the ruler of Arrakis and they are an independent nation.
The empire can still continue to get spice but now they will have to do business with the people of Fremen.
This way he can just stay with Chani. He can use the incoming wealth to make life better for the Fremen.

It would make sense in-universe. Spice extends life and youth. In the books, the emperor is pushing 70 but looks 30.
Was their love affair meant to last, or was it Duned from the start?
That ending with Chani breaks the continuation and shows she didn't trust Paul. In my opinion it should have kept it like in the books, Paul marrying the princess, but not interacting with her more than to rule the imperium. But ofc, Zendaya had to make a hissy fit and be childish instead of accepting paul's diplomatic marriage like his mother did with Leto.
Both Paul and Leto knew that a marriage has no importance other than a political importance.
Thank goodness you didn't work on the movie

Why are you acting like Zendaya chose to do that. That’s the way Denis chose to portray chani

Can anyone explain at what point in movie does Paul change his mind from early movie not wanting to lead and why he changes his mind? Really don't think that's clear in the movie.
Its a bit of a Spoiler in later books but its a bit miltifaceted in the Movie,
In the Books, Paul saw basically the End of Mankind with his visions and he now sees that basically the only way he can Prevent that is by following a specific set of Events called "the Golden Path" and in true Dune Fashion its not gonna be Pretty as he needs to make Morally qustionable decisions to do so,
The Movie expands on this by showing that Paul also really Doesn't have a real Choice, it was either Die with his Adopted People (not commanding all of the Fremen and be ineffective and eventually be defeated) or become a Dark Messiah that will kill Billions (saving his people but also Destroy his Morality completely at least in the Movie, Apparently Book Paul is much more pragmatic about it).
WHY No rain at the end like the original movie ? why no guild steersmen ? wheres harah ? why lasgun used even when shields all around ?
Not everything is shielded, so Lasguns still have a place.
That last line, "Holy war began "
After reading these comments I’m glad I’ve held off on reading the books. These movies are amazing
What.. why? The book "Dune" is fantastic and is better than any of its cinematic adaptations (of which there are 3).
03:40, Are you so used to Marvel's baiting using after credit scenes, that you can't enjoy a movie as it is? Wait until part 3 to find out. Simple
The can do Paul's baby sister hiring animators to replicate The Flash baby animations 😂
Using post credit scenes to set up a sequel is lazy. It can be done with just ending though you have to craft it smartly.
My favorite adaption will always be the SciFi channel "Dune: 2000" version with the Moebius clothes choices and the showing of Paul's son that dies. :3 Just thinking about it being a production that was on a shoestring budget but had 3 movies that tried to follow the books well.
A video of listing all the book storylines that have been left out, might be interesting. Oh the golden path.
Mentat thufir was supposed to be at the end , it is cut
If the movie ends with Paul having control of Dune wouldn't that mean that he has control of spice and therefore has control of the universe?
Yes
This would hold true if the other Houses accepted him as the new king of Harkonnens. But as we saw in the end that is not the case

Aleia is supposed to be the one who kills the baron. And the Emperor kneels and kisses the ring just because Paul wins? It's because of the spacing guild. Just saw dune 2...it was interesting...need to watch it again. Last Paul seems a divided messiah
He's afraid of control and what could happen. Mainly cause of his visions. He's afraid of what he might become.

@thomasoflaherty3520 it was a great movie. It's a saying.."you can't be everything to everybody, in stay true to yourself" Paul seems to be everything to his, mother, father, prophecy, in so forth. But he lost out on the love of his life, who is chani. But best movie of the year! So far
He was always a reluctant messiah in Herbert's books. In Children of Dune, he returns only to destroy his own legacy.
Maybe Chani meets the ghost of Liet, her father.

Im expecting a lelouch ending for this movie series.(I didnt read the books) just a gut feeling. Paul takes over everything pretending 2 be bad and zendaya character takes him out(He changes his fate) while his wife have his baby. Haha
a post credit scene would cheapen the movie. Analogy: most post credit scenes (most) are toys, and you only expect a little toy out of a cereal box. Not buried in the plate of a meal from a high end restaurant. This is not to say one is objectively better or worse. They are just different types of movies. Some post credit scene is a plus, some not suitable at all.
