@@kiirakira6 - I HATE that Kim Kardashian wore a dress that had only ever been worn one time, by one woman…which is one of Bob Mackie’s first custom creations & was brought to life by Jean Louis’ hands, and which she was literally sewn into the night she wore it. I hate that prior to Pete Davison, both John F. Kennedy, and Robert F. Kennedy, were the last 2 men to have rested their hands on the sheer material covering its lower back, while a woman was wearing it. I hate that the only known photo of Marilyn Monroe with JFK & RFK was taken that night, wearing that dress….I hate that it was her last public appearance before her death. And I *REALLY* hate that so many people don’t understand why that’s such a huge deal, because we’ve pushed society to the brink of ambivalence where history is concerned if it means having the flashiest, most expensive, rarest spotlight in the world for 4 minutes and 27 seconds. That dress was sacred & should have remained that way. *HOWEVER,* the dress doesn’t belong to the Smithsonian, it belongs to Ripley’s Believe it or Not, and they paid $4.8 million for the privilege of being able to lend it to a Kardashian if they want to. It pisses me off, but I mean…here we are. That being said (mainly to drive home the degree to which I dislike Kim Kardashian, and I hate that she thought she deserved to wear the dress) neither dress was ruined by Kim. The dress was like that when Ripley’s bought it. Marilyn only wore it the one time, but she wore it all night long & she’d been literally sewn into it, so when she had to use the restroom, she had to wrestle it up…when she sat down in cars, or on chairs, (and there was a sit down dinner that night) she then had to stand up again in a skin tight dress. She was filming a movie at the time in LA, so she flew to NY to attend the DNC event, was sewn into the dress, driven to Madison Square Garden, (late, also…she was very late, lol) and immediately went on stage. She flew back to LA following the gala, wearing the dress because she couldn’t get out of it. She even slept in it before she was able to get someone to her house to help her get out of it the following day. It was created from marquisette fabric, which is very fragile & tears easily even when you’re being super cautious, & there were 2500 - 6000 crystals hand stitched into the fabric by way of metal settings. The sharp points on those settings can easily snag and/or tear fabric. The dress was in the exact condition when Ripley’s bought it, as it was when Marilyn was finally able to shed it. There was damage. The damage is specifically outlined, including a hand drawn diagram pointing out the placement of each imperfection, in the documentation included with the dress when it was auctioned off to Ripley’s. Ripley’s has released several in depth statements disputing rumors that Kim damaged the dress, and have included evidence to back it up. If you look closely at the “before and after” photos floating around, it’s obvious that they were taken under very different lighting conditions. The “before” photo was taken of the dress on a custom mannequin designed for it, & under lighting designed to hide imperfections (like how strip clubs use black lights everywhere so that you can’t see the C-section scars, cellulite, and bruises on the dancers - even when they’re on your lap.) The “after” photo was taken on a different mannequin, to keep It from being folded in a box as much as possible, and it was being inventoried & inspected by Ripley’s insurance adjuster to make sure there was no additional damage exclusively as a result of Kim wearing it, which might change the value of the policy. It was purposely under harsh lighting for the inspection. Under those lights it’s very easy to see the existing damage, which doesn’t seem present in the first photo, under the lighting designed to hide it. Both Ripley’s & the insurance adjuster are on official record confirming that. As far as I’m concerned, the dress was ruined when Kim squeezed herself into it. Perhaps not physically, but ruined nonetheless. Any tiny part of Marilyn that may have lingered inside that dress all these years was replaced by Kardashian in those 4 minutes 27 seconds. I wouldn’t care who wore that dress, I’d still be pissed about it. But somehow it pisses me off just a little more that it was a Kardashian, because i have no idea why they’re famous.
@@DrAnderson1 … sacred? The dress is sacred? Marilyn Monroe was basically the Kim Kardashian of her time. She was having an affair with the last man “to lay hands on the fabric while a woman was wearing it.” You’re acting like it’s the Virgin Mary and someone sexually assaulted her. There’s nothing sacred about JFK’s mistress.
Now you know damn well that Marilyn Monroe would never do that, nor would she be angry about someone wearing her dress AFTER HER DEATH. She may be upset if it was meant to diss her, but not in this setting. This was to pay homage to her. She would be disgusted by all of the internet warriors acting as if she is some vengeful person. Marilyn was a kind, generous, and overall big-hearted woman. She would not have hated this at all. She was not as materialistic as the people are today.
So she didn’t want anyone ruining Marilyn’s dress, but it was OK for her to ruin Marilyn’s dress by them having to take it out and retouch it to fit her body instead of Marilyn’s original body? OK. Not only that, but hunny, none of that stuff in that room of Marilyn Monroe‘s do you deserve anyway. And if she were alive today, I doubt she would want any of her shit in your house. Some people say the same about people who worship a higher power. Some people go on faith, while others go based on striving for what’s tangible. To each there own.
I don't get idolising the Kardashians who are talentless . But Marilyn is a film & cultural icon. She had real talent. Lee Strasberg who she took lessons with at his world famous Actors Studio, put her up there wth James Dean & Marlon Brando. Sadly, she was pigeonholed as a dumb blonde by the Studios at the time.
@@seriouslyrandom9976 yes tf she did her putting her body in it ruined it even for one second now it’s been wore by her and the worth of that dress Is nothing now!!!! She was fully naked underneath but now it has all Kim’s dirty ass dna 🧬
She didn't have any family after her death unfortunately. Those whom were closest to her were older and died shortly after. Unfortunately, most of her things went ti the studios and they auctioned it. Edit: Marilyn was an orphan, as her mother was mentally ill and gave her up at 2 yo. She married her foster families neighbor at 16, so she wouldn't be thrown back into the system, since they no longer wanted her. She was then considered an adult/emancipated. I believe her father was unknown at the time, and even later I believe he was never confirmed. I believe she had a brother, but I don't think she had contact with him since they were both given up by their mother.
So in the comments, I see many that state she didn't ruin Marilyn's dress. Even if she didn't physically ruin the dress. She still damaged the value, because that dress was expressly made for Marilyn, her memory should have been preserved. Now when younger generations see the dress, they will associate the dress with Kim, and not who the dress was actually intended for. Just my opinion.
You are very right but besides that: She did damage the dress! The low back area of the dress is streched. The fabric around the zip area has been destroyed, around 10 rinestones missing, some hanging on thin thread. And the shoulder straps have been streched too
she did ruin the dress! I don't care how much weight she lost just to fit in. During the process of everyone helping her get in to the dress her friend literally had to push kim's ass up so the lower dress could slide up and be zipped up. I know its her vision to wear this dress but she literally had made a replica of the dress with it being stretchable. Not only that she had another Marilyn dress that she wore after the event and she said that her body could fit Marilyn's dress.. she's delusional.
Crazy how Marylin’s own designer said that she told him she did not want anybody else wearing her belongings if she ever passed. But there’s people in the comments “it’s just a dress” no it’s the principle. And it kinda ruined everything now if you want to go see the dress at the museum knowing kim wore it last and not Marylin anymore. Smh on kim and the people who allowed this. As far as things go, if you have money, power, and status you can do anything you want. Sickening isn't it?? I have never understood the fascination people have with this family. I do adore Marilyn Monroe who had actual talent. But, nothing in society is sacrosanct anymore. Some poster from another country was furious with me for posting my view that this wasn't such a great idea. I laughed and wished her happiness, love, and peace. I am entitled to my opinion and she is too--- though I wish her no ill will, but she didnt reciprocate my positive response to her. Instead I was told to shut and that brain hurt or some such thought. I don't hate this person, I feel sorry for her. People are so out of touch and can't take someone disagreeing with their icons. Did she think that was an appropriate thing to say or how to behave when you disagree with someon? Sad is all I could think. I wish no person ill will. It's more my surprise and dismay that this is what people do or how they react to anyone with an oppinion that doesnt agree with theirs. Has the human race sunk so low? We've reached a point where everyone is so damn afraid of offending another person that we don't communicare anymore. And it's asinine and disrespectful to me that the rich and entitled are fine with taking others' art or work for a sound byte to sell their product or grow their brand. Like when Pink Floyd was contacted to sell the rights to FB for one of their iconic songs. The band was so disgusted that FB wanted to offer them an insane amount of money, to own their song to sell people on FB. The recording artist told FB to shove it. His art and music is not for sale. Kim is in position to do a lot of good and I have heard she has done some. That's great. If I were in her position I would use all my influence to help young women get their civil rights back (Roe) and do everything to stop Humam trafficking. This whole business with a dress is just about her brand. Five minutes from now it will be another celebrity. It was Paris Hilton years ago. The faces change, but message is same. A few folks have all the power and money to make a real difference, but it becomes about a brand. It would be great to see them donate all of their money to real world problems. Then I'd be thrilled. But, the cycle doesn't change. And intention matters. I wish all the folks out there love and peace. We have a very short life and spend it making world a better place. Creature comforts are nice, but at the end of the day they are just things. It's the love and empathy we share with others that changes things.

The “before” photo was taken of the dress on a custom mannequin designed for it, & under lighting designed to hide imperfections (like how strip clubs use black lights everywhere so that you can’t see the C-section scars, cellulite, and bruises on the dancers - even when they’re on your lap.) The “after” photo was taken on a different mannequin, to keep
It from being folded in a box as much as possible, and it was being inventoried & inspected by Ripley’s insurance adjuster to make sure there was no additional damage exclusively as a result of Kim wearing it, which might change the value of the policy.
She was having an affair with the last man “to lay hands on the fabric while a woman was wearing it.”
You’re acting like it’s the Virgin Mary and someone sexually assaulted her.

This should all be in a museum or with her family / close friends 😢
Even her close one sold her things in auction
I dont think Marilyn had a family
Nah they sold it if kim wants to burn the dress it’s her choice
@@fursegi Yikes. That well made dress.
Uugh! That’s sad.
💯
Agreed. 💯
Kim you’ll never be her 😂

This should have never been allowed. There has to be limits somewhere.
Money talks I guess
Never
As far as things go, if you have money, power, and status you can do anything you want.
Meanwhile Kim ripped the original dress why couldn’t she wear a replica and then take a photo next to original she has the money to make custom gowns .
she didn’t rip the dress, it literally 60 years old dress,
@@lo3ing it was in perfect condition in a glass case for 60 years Marilyn Monroe wore once it was sculpted to her body sewn and fitted to her body skin tight. Kim Kardashian wearing the “Happy Birthday” dress has been hotly contested, but the fact remains that she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala.
“From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in,” noted Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing, Amanda Joiner, who was continuously with the dress the day of the Gala and during transport from Orlando to New York.

@@blueseptember2174 totally! I don't get why everyone's so pressed about it 🤦🏼♀️
@@blueseptember2174 This particular dress is special because it was made specifically and only for Marilyn. It was iconic when she wore it and it became a priceless piece of memorabilia after she died. The dress was being kept in good condition so generations of people who are interested in the life of Marilyn Monroe could continue to admire and appreciate it where it was displayed. But because Kim’s own vanity and lack of basic consideration, she thought it would be a good idea to fit her much curvier body into a dress that was so much to Marilyn’s own body that she was sewn into it. Obviously it didn’t fit her and she stretched it and permanently damaged it. All so she could wear the dress for mere minutes at the Met Gala then switched into a replica. You can view images of the dress afterwards. That is extremely rude and entitled, especially since she permanently damaged a beautiful piece of memorabilia just so she could wear it for a few minutes. It’s just sad and she could have chosen to not wear the real dress out of respect, but she chose not to.
@@sailorsatan5562 I bought these gorgeous boots(only worn once then stored) at a yard sale the other day. They fit perfect. After moving around in them for 5 minutes the 'leather" began to crack and after one day the sole came off.
These boots basically got wasted in storage and deteriorated like all clothing does. Wear the dress because things are temporary. She treated the dress with respect and it got used so that's a win.
@@blueseptember2174 I think you missed my point. No one cares about some old boots you found and wore because you are not an icon nor were your boots historic memorabilia. My whole point is this dress became more than just a dress because of the person who it was made for and the performance she gave while wearing it. It was meant to be preserved and no longer worn. Simple.
