Why do I watch this don’t have any of the tools
Ever thought of the affect of pressure or CFM on impact gun performance?
Do you have a video showing the difference between 1/4" High flow, 3/8" high flow (I think only Milton is readily available) and 1/2" quick connect hydraulic fittings (I think they are usually used for Construction equipment). I'm curious because I have 1/2" hose and do not want to run a converter coupler.... But, I only can find 1/4" high flow connectors. Can barely find 3/8" and 1/2" Quick Connect NPTs..
My wife: “Why does everything you watch have air gun or engine noise?” You’d figure after over a decade of marriage she’d be used to it by now. Another great video. Kudos.
the only answer is to keep going partner. maybe in the next decade she will learn lol
Mine bought me some $350 Bose headphones… 😂😂
@@southfloridanick nice!
Best response to that- “cause you always turn me on, baby”
Lucky for me my kids make even more noise than me
Would love to see a torque limiting stick video on a few diff impacts
I own Astro's torque stick set, so I'd be partial to seeing theirs tested -- I should be able to loan my set or a few specific sticks if you wanted to do such a test
Last counted we'll be doing 10 different variations of tests
@@FliesLikeABrick We can pick those up too.
Yes please do this
Honestly, I would stay away from those. Of they aren't used properly, they don't work. Well, whats the point then. If you use an impact properly, you wouldn't have a need for torque limiters that you need to use properly
It would be quite interesting to see the difference between a wall mounted air water separator and one of those in hose air water separators from harbor freight
“Yes, these too” is my favorite part of the video!
Next time we'll just post a 10min photo reel of torque sticks :P
Nice! I don't use air tools that frequently but I did go with the Flexzilla swivels when I was buying fittings about a year ago. Glad the extra money bought me something 👍
I would love to see a video where you try to lose as much as you can. Small hose, swivel coupler, swivel extension, swivel bit.
Air tool Limbo, How low can it go?!
I have the double swivel on most of my tools as a car mechanic, it doesn't reduce the power to a point i get any issue with my tools but it surely allows me to use it everywhere in the engine bay, wheel wells and under dashboard.
I love it! ❤️
If you guys get really bored you should see how badly you can neuter a really good air impact, by using swivel connectors, a 1/4" hose, long extensions, etc... Love your channel, keep it up!
3:10 i am a professional heavy equipment mechanic. i have that one from harbor freight on my 3/8 impact WHAT A LIFE SAVER!!!!
my gun fits into the tightest spots! and .... ive had it on their for like 4-5 years! i cant believe how long it has lasted
i just bought a couple more, just incase they discontinue them!
On the double swivel I take them apart and drill out the passage. Seems to help with airflow
I know this video is a year old, but I’ve been running the flexzilla ball swivel whip hoses for about 8-10 years. Long term, they are all still working good and no leaks, some have even been on multiple tools as the tools wear out. They make some great products.
Sounds like Eric O would be fine without it except for the most stubborn of bolts/nuts. And then I'm sure Panther Pee would be employed before removing the swivel would happen. Love the content guys!
...Or the torch.
Kroil! The oil for creeps.
I think you can get the benefits of a swivel without the losses by using a short (12") whip hose on the tool and a regular straight fitting (I use high-flow style "V") on the end of the whip. That is my preferred solution for all my high consumption air tools (hammer & impacts). Everything else (blowoff, die grinder, etc.) gets the usual fitting directly on the tool. I actually started doing this not because of losses in the swivel, but rather because I've seen the usual fittings & couplers eventually shaken to death (cracked) in the workshop. The idea was the hose would dampen most of the vibrations that the fitting would have experienced. The avoidance of losses in the swivel shown in this video is a nice bonus.
Woooow man, he knows exactly what I got in my garage for air tool, he's psychic!.
Thanks for another great vid.
Thank you @torqueTestChannel! I had two of those swivel elbow adapters between my compressor and hose reel. after watching, I replaced those swivel adapters with brass elbows. Huge improvement in air volume and pressure! If you blow into those adapters versus elbow, you can feel the back pressure difference! Both HF and Kobalt/Lowe's swivels have same flow restriction.
Thank you for this video! I like my double swivels, but I can see that I may need to ditch them occasionally.
These videos are incredible. I’ve learned more in 2 days than I can fathom. Thank you for taking the bull by the horns!
Keep in mind this is with the swivels held at their max angle which is also max interference. With them straight through up and down we're currently seeing between 0-5% loss. With the double swivel, it doesnt matter, always not having as much fun as the others. Here's the only swivel we can recommend so far: amzn.to/2SXfM4q
Superb video and presentation. Outstanding testing. Thank you so much for producing such high quality videos. This particular one answered some questions I’d had for years but never tested in any way. Your tests are more thorough and informative. Well done on reading those part numbers.... gosh!
I’ve got all flexzilla high flow fittings. I’m glad the results look like I made the right choice
ha, funny, double swivel fittings on ALL my air tools. I like em, thinking now though I might reserve a new 1/2" impact with no swivel for hard bolts....
@@brentowen9480 I only have the one swivel, the rest are the normal high flows.
I'd think for most of the 30 degree swivels, you'd be better off with an 18" whip and correct sized coupler.
I actually just got a 50 foot hose reel mounted in my garage and I do use swivels... I mostly have cordless brushless tools but there is a place for air from time-to-time... air hammer, pumping up tires , leak down tester...and other Automotive tools that need an air source...
3:15.. got mine on Ebay.. they're good for cheap...
Last week, I literally tried out the HF swivel and felt like it was robbing some percentage of the power, and then took it off and put it in a box for when I need it. Thank you.
There is no way, I was literally just going to ask if you could make a video on this! I bought a dynabrade style one and it seems okay so far.
Astro recently came out with a High Flow 3 way swivel 3SB40 and it'd be really interesting to see how much better they flow vs the standard ones. They're on all my compact impacts, ratchets, die grinders and air hammer. Can't beat the maneuverability.
I only use the dual swivel on my air ratchet. However I might grab a flexzilla for my impact and air hammer. Thanks for doing this
Super stokes to see the results of different air hose fittings and styles. Will be running all new pneumatics in my new shop.
Great info confiming my suspicions.
Fantastic video, as always. 🙏
I use the double swivels on my air drills and grinders. They save your butt in tight spaces
Flexzilla seems really nice
I have a small impact to get into tight spaces and have a second heavy hitter impact for when it's really stuck. Works great just clicking the air hose over. Swapping air fittings would be a total pain.
Was hoping you would have tested the astro 360 high flow air swivel. They claim to be the first of this type.
"Angle of the dangle"...definitely an AvE subscriber.
Thanks for the video
I only use doubles on tools like die grinders or roloc whizzers. Too much loss and they bind on themselves often to make the o-rings wear & leak. The extra swiveling can get you jammed in tight spaces too.
Yep
I use the Stedin Orbital; would have loved to see how that compares.
Brilliant! Thanks!
Well done.
I use those double swivels.. just not on a impact. I use mine on cut off wheel/die grinder tools for access and air hose not binding up.
I would appreciate seeing a video on the effects of compressor-to-air hose reel fittings and how much pressure/energy is lost on the elbow bends on the reels.
Putting a 3/8" double swivel on that 1894 would be the better way to go. Then just bush down the swivel inlet or use a 1/4" high flow x 3/8" npt plug.
2:40 you need to shine light up from the bottom.
This is a great channel keep up the good work guys. Hi Mike
Hi Gabe
@@michaelbatuski5359 Hey my dudes!
I have a Atlas Copco Multi flex 3/8 part# 8202 1350 28, that you can test if you want to. It swivels 0'-90', similar to some ⛽ hose swivels. It is in my opinion the best swivel money can buy because the inside diameter maintains 3/8 inch throughout.
Send us an email! Torquetestchannel@gmail.com
I do use the 360 degree swivel on a lot of my air tools, but it's interesting to see how much power you can lose. I guess you could make for it with higher line pressure. At least now I know if i'm in trouble and can't get a nut off I could try to remove the adapter !
Was wondering how these would effect air flow.
Prevost ESI 071201SW is best imo
I exclusively use the Prevost high flow stuff now plus I like the neat qd button
I have the double swivel thanks to Eric on my old Sears Pro (which I think is a clone of the old IR) and it sure does make using it a lot less of a hassle. I hate the kinked hose. Might have to try a Flexzilla if they go on lightening.
I've noticed that my 2235 spins at really low pressure but my small IR stubby doesn't. I find that after I use up the beans from my tank spinning at somewhat low PSI is a time saver.
I use doubles on everything. It's robbing my tools. Great content guys
I will always use a double swivel. That being said i always have an extra 1/2" hose made up without a swivel on it so that i can switch over to it if i need the extra sauce!
I use the double swivel on my HVLP devilbis style spray gun, and really appreciate the flexibility.
For sure, in a situation with a spray gun where its flow is already dialed in how you like it - there's nothing to be gained by extra flow.
I wonder if in-line air filters would affect as well? Normally I think of those being used with paint spraying, but who knows if someone left it on a line somewhere?
I use a oversize double swivel with smaller high flow fittings.
I run the merlin swivel on all my air tools connected to a 1/2" whip. Shop compressor is a pye-barker 175psi with dryer 1" hard line to 3/4" reels. Merlin 1/2" fittings on the 3/4" reels for the the 3/4" guns and -12 msha line on the 1" gun whips. My cordless stays in the box.
The area beside the gauge where you write the torque values is gonna become a mirror from all the rubbing off of the numbers for the new numbers.
Did you make one comparing different style couples and plugs? M vs G etc (G style with 1/4" to tools with 1/2" hose vs 3/8" hose) stuff like that
Would be interested to see the results
Have you looked at the ones made by Sterlin. Designed a couple years back & made in the USA. Also doesnt have a he blowback upon release
Would be interesting to see the double swivel (I think you showed a Matco pic). If a single 90 can pull that much torque from "Thor", just image double 90s within close proximity.
This is a double 90 though.
I don’t use swivels, not because of torque loss, but they always seem to wear out quick and leak. I find air hose leaks like water torture. lol
I'm guessing we are going to be seeing flexzilla swivels at SMA now.
Highly unlikely unless Flexzilla start sponsoring Eric. Those ball swivels are next to useless.
New sponsor.
After seeing Eric use the double swivels, I bought a Kobalt one and put it on the end of my air hose. It’s super nice not having to fight the hose angle when using tools. However I noticed Eric puts one on each tool, whereas I put just one fitting on the hose itself with the quick connect after the swivel. Other than buying one vs many swivels, I’m not sure if there’s any other difference.
About an inch of clearance. Which is one of the reasons for using them.
You missed my favorite swivel, the Variacor 360. Curious if it performs any differently from the regular 360 swivel
Does anybody know if the female Milton V style plugs will accept the Flexzilla male plugs? They look slightly different in photographs.
There is a rumor going around Eric traded Thor for two earthquakes and a shiny nickel. Yeah his wife stepped out for lunch and the salesman knew it would be an easy take. Now Mrs o closes down the shop when she goes to lunch and forbids Eric from talking to anymore salesman!!!
I have double swivel and im gonna switch now
I didn't see the video, but I assume you guys have tested different connector styles such as the Lincoln style Air connector. If you haven't, would love to see it
Can't say I was surprised by these results. However, I do not get ANY mileage out of the Flexzilla ends. At most they last me about 3 months before coming apart at the ball and socket.
Would be interested if the restriction can be partly meditated or a higher final torque by bursting the impact?
Definitely found bolts seemed to cracked loose easier when blipping air guns when they have smaller air fittings.
The torque limiting stick test will be interesting. I'm under the impression that you can't use a lower powered wrench like 500ft lbs or less (rated) as they won't be able to twist the sticks enough and will over tighten the fastener. I believe you need a higher powered wrench to use them accurately.
It would be great if you can test that theory in some capacity!
How could the impact not be able to twist the torquestick but overtighten a fastener ? (If not on weird harmonics)
My understanding, and I very well could be wrong, is that the way torque sticks work is that they twist at a given torque value. They twist so "far" that they overcome the travel of the hammer in the impact gun. Thus they start to absorb the impact and stop turning at the specified torque.
If the low powered impact wrench is unable to make them torque stick twist enough, then I'm assuming the torque stick will just act like an extension, and over tighten the fastener.
Think about this, putting a torque stick on a breaker bar. Definitely can over tighten in that scenario.
@@carlrabe4384 IMHO when the impact is unable to twist the stick it is also unable to overtighten the bolt.
If the impact puts out the blows so fast the stick cant recover in time there might a chance to overtighten a little before the stick snaps off.
Perfect, 2 different opinions on how they operate. All the more reason to get to the bottom of this!
Plz test with low, mid, and high range impacts so we can finally know,
I wonder if Flexzilla flared the opening on the inside ball if it would improve results. It would probably require an additional machining op though.
BRB, gonna take off the double swivel off my gun! (No wonder it seems so weak!)
What about automatic oilers? I have one of those screwd into the gun as well!
It would also be interesting to see the effect of air tool oil itself, what kinds of momentary torque gains can be had.
You may have tested this in the past, but I would’ve been interested to see what the numbers would’ve been if the hose would’ve been just directly connected to the gun with no fitting just clamped on to a 3/8” thread in.
Can you test milwaukees 1 inch impacts comparison with each other?
Just goes to show what a little restriction will do. Voltage drop comes to mind.
Looks like it would be best to have the swivel on a quick connect and not permanently installed.
For fittings, can you please do HF's new high flow fittings? Ive upgraded all my air tools to those and it really does seem to give everything more beans
It’s going to be the roughly the same as Flexzilla’s fittings, as well as the Husky high flows. Same design between the 3, so the major difference is probably how well they’re made and how long they last.
Thank you for amazing test. Could you please explain if connector of same style (eg industrial) can vary in sizes (eg 1/4, 1/2) or is it that only it's thread can vary in size and type (eg: 1/4 NBT/BSP) ?
Oh damn. I run a muffler and a double swivel on my IR2235QTiMax....
Could you maybe do a test of modifications you could do to an air connector. My buddy would take he standard air fitting and run the next size up drill bit down it to maximize air flow, would then do the same on the npt side going into the tool and would then countersink the end to allow air to get in easier. He broke a lot of connectors doing this, but was it worth it
I remember he mentioned a costume made fitting that was about 30 bucks each but I can’t find it anymore
These are really interesting tests! Do you have any plans to test any of the impact-rated "offset extensions"? E.g. Snap-on FRW10 - There are a few manufacturers making them.
It would be interesting to see what the 90 degree swivel would do with the V style instead of the M style. I'm not defending it I'm just curious what the difference would be. I do run these swivels because it allows me to get into such tight places on my shorter impacts but I use the V style. As for my standard size guns I just rum straight off the gun with the V style on one of them, the other one I run a short whip straight into the gun for better air flow.
On a side note if you test out the female couplers it would be interesting to see how the Prevost PRVESI071201S do.
With the exception of a couple of my impacts (Nitrocat) mine are the older models I pick up on Fleebay, like Mac and IR and just rebuild them. Heck you can get very nice impacts dirt cheap where everyone wants the latest and greatest, they are cheap to rebuild and they do everything I need them to do, I run a 1/2" hose then use a reducer to drop to 3/8" hose the last 5', this way I don't use a connector until right at the tool.
Commenting for the you know what.
I'm picking up a harbor freight air rivet gun and was trying to figure out what kind of swivel to use . Do you think the 1/4 swivel would make that big of a difference 🤔
Not, because it's not high volume per trigger pull
I love air tools
I'd like to see the difference in applied torque between air and electric impacts (high torque and mod torque) my thought is the slow impacts of the high torque will have reduced torque compared to the rapid impacts of air
Will try Chicago Pneumatic’s “AirFlex”
Swivel?
How do other styles compare say nito style fitting in a swivel and even direct hose to impact gun
thanks for sharing . i use 3/8 hoses and if you could do a comparison using them it would be really cool . i guess ya can't please everybody . hahaha thanks again and take care , jeff
These are 3/8" hoses
@@TorqueTestChannel my bad i meant 3/8 swivel adapters . take care dude .
Hi, do you have a table for the stubby 1/2” impacts? I’m looking to make a purchase soon
I think it was a half inch aircat or nitrocat but it couldn’t take out the last 2 head bolts on a 13.5L power tech, broke the socket on the last 2 bolts.
i had no idea my double swivel was killin me to much. I had one on every tool before i switched to electric, and they were red :| LOL
Any plans for 1” air guns?
I would have loved to have seen stedlin
id like to see snapon/mac swivels tested
nice vid ... but not sure I completely understand why I should put a whip hose on a air hammer or impact wrench
Vibration leads to an early air fittings death
@@TorqueTestChannel ok but isn't the same thing when you screw the whip hose into the air hammer?
Nah, a whip hose creates minimal stand-off, or basically a large series of rigid pieces and weight. Just air hammer into whip bend. No air hammer to fitting, to female coupler, to hose barb crimp all sticking off and vibrating around
I don't think I have seen aluminum fittings just brass and I'm pretty sure steel well I guess the high flow ones I have seen are aluminum
