    So for anyone confused as to what a topless dress was, I looked it up online. There was a fashion movement back then in the “swinging 60s” to wear dresses that left your breasts completely exposed. No bra or anything. That’s what they’re talking about.

    These clips of 60s Australia are so fascinating. We view this time as one steeped in repression and conservatism (I mean the the older people, not the swinging sixties youth) yet the general public are really quite open minded, easy going and thoughtful.

    Born 73. In 66 dad was 23 or 24 and in the army. Mum was 17-18 and in her native Peru and would emigrate here instead of the U.S as originally planned, in July 1970, same month as dad's birthday.
    I just love seeing how things were in the 60s as they had a very different feel to the 70s. Things modernised so much from the late 60s to the point where the late 70s was unrecognisable.

      Daytime dresses typically had higher necklines and covered shoulders, so I think topless in the context of the day meant strapless or lower necklines, ie visible cleavage.

Mostly she stayed home until the baby was drinking regular formula etc. Or they can cover themselves with a small blanket in public. No reason to not be discrete about it.

    Been watching a few of these of late... Funny how back then they ask whoever they bump into first.... These days they pick hand pick a selection who will give the most controversial or narrative compliant response possible. Should be more of this now.

    Very big difference in the cultural expression. Every single person is polite no swearing or cursing, no sexual words. Totally different world from today. I think everyone is well dressed with good hair and makeup.

    The busom is a rather malleable thing you know.., stretches either way.. the way they talk so confidently and nonchalantly 😄 I’m 35 and my parents are in there 70s now but I still remember my grandparents and how amazing my nan was god bless her soul. I wish more 30 year olds could form relationships with the elderly they can teach us a lot

    In all fairness, I think the one guy was talking about bosoms, the actual sculptures, which are a fairly normal form of European art.

      Bosom doesn't mean sculpture. Are you thinking of bust? That does indeed have a double meaning, now that you mention it.
      The guy also used the word malleable, which is a pretty bizarre description either way, but fits more with a breast than with a sculpture
