Meanwhile, you've got guys like me. Despite an 86 ASVAB score enlists as an Airborne Infantryman. Gets selected for a specialized reconnaissance unit, gets security clearances, in 5 years spend a total of 26 months in Afghanistan, decided to call it good and got out. A few years later I decide I want to rejoin and go SF, as a lot of my buddies that were in have gone that route. They're doing good things and I want to be a part of it. Talk with a recruiter, fill out paperwork. After over a year of back and forth, medical evaluations, psych testing, TS clearance paperwork, foreign language proficiency testing, the recruiter calls me and tells me that because I (as a WA state resident) had smoked pot 4 years prior to this application (after it was legalized in WA), I'm disqualified. To put this into perspective. To apply to be a Special Agent in the FBI you can't have smoked pot in the previous 3 years or done any other drug in the last 10. From that metric, it's easier for me to join the FBI than to rejoin the Army. So yeah. You've got one guy here who is smart, has physically done the job before, has the experience, has seen combat, AND WANTS TO REJOIN, and is denied because he got high in 2014.

Dead Pizza joining the military means you will die, get depression and PTSD, or become disabled. But if you survive that they do just leave you there on your own. But the pay, and benefits you get are worth it to some.
Young recruit families getting food stamps. I remember being on a base where a local furniture store cheated the hell out of young military families, but the base commander always made them pay up since he was getting payoffs from the furniture store. Everyone knew it but nothing ever came of it.

@Baron Von Grijffenbourg The WaPo just showed Afghanistan is a farce and a cheat, but that dropped like a rock into a well and we'll be there another seventeen years.
My uncle was in the navy and he told me at a very young age that he wouldn't advise anyone to join the military. Veterans don’t need more praise, the need a VA that will actually help them with rehabilitation back to civilian life, mental health treatment, better treatment for physical injuries, etc.
No, it’s that people have no pride in their country. People don’t join the military because we fight in other countries, we join the military because it puts us in a position to protect ours, if necessary. Boot camp will change or some new program will be put in place for those poolees, but at the end of the day, those obese individuals, to be truly effective at warfighting, will have to be to in incredible shape. The military will make that happen, it's only a matter of time. Unless the Marine Corps and the Army change war fighting philosophies from fire and maneuver/attrition warfare, to fat fuck canon fodder and send in the in shape warfighters afterwards once the enemy has exhausted all their munitions kills hundreds of thousands of fat fucks.
If the military would restructure pay grades so that bonuses and extra pay can be rewarded based on your position in the military, you might get more qualified applicants wanting to join. In the US Military, an E-4 specops soldier, engineer, or cyber security specialist are all paid the same as the E-4 gate guard grunt, despite having vastly more knowledge and critical skills needed to complete the military mission successfully. Sure, the benefits are great but $30k salary is $30k salary. Why do you think so many skilled service members leave after their first contract? Sure, people are out of shape and don't qualify. But people who WANT to join the military will lose weight and get fit to do it. The problem is, people no longer want to do it.
They also don’t want to do it because the military is not a defense force, but an imperialist militia controlled by and loyal to private military contractors and corporate politicians who receive immense donations from them. It’s yet another dark money racket that benefits the few at the expense of the many.

I'm seriously tired of people saying that job choice is due to "what's cool." I specifically remember back like 15 years ago all the parents, advisors, and experts telling kids from the earliest days of primary school to go to college - it's the only measure of success, don't do trades, but be a working professional. I know millennials followed that advice and it was bunk after 2008. Now everyone, even many of the same people advising college, are blaming those college grads for making that choice when they were listening to what was supposedly the informed opinion and stating that the trades were obviously the way to go. They were just kids, whose brains were not fully developed, listening to what was bombarded to them throughout school. I just wish people had a better grasp of why kids choose what they did.
Jimmy Pereira thats the fkn truth that he doesnt want to admit too ... a military career is simply a huge setback in terms of post-military career. Another reason, which I don't see none of them bring up in this video, is the huge mistrust in the military. There are a lot of fit, intelligent people out there, who wouldn't even think of joining the military. You can thank people like George Bush for that.
I would never join for one reason. My dad was a marine. Honorable discharged in 05, he was in Afghanistan and Iraq when the wars began. And he tells me all the time, no matter what I do, to NEVER join the military, that it will ruin my life forever. That’s why I don’t join. On the other hand, if we see another world war, then I’ll seriously reconsider, but right now I don’t think it’s in the cards.
If that's true, then why did the military, meet recruitment numbers, almost every year under, Bush. Bush, carried the military vote, in his second election. I believe he had, close to 75 percent of the military vote. Recruitment didn't drop, until Obama, took office.
War Monger that doesn’t necessarily indicate that it’s the result of the presidency. During bush, our country was invaded and attacked for the first time since Pearl Harbor. Every American in the country wanted revenge. Then after a while it came out the war on terror was based on a lie, that Saudi had WMDs when they didn’t at all and our government knew that at the time. People lost all their trust overnight. Why would you wanna join the military knowing that the wars we are fighting right now aren’t working and aren’t being fought for what they tell us they are. And that truth about the bush administration lying about wmds was revealed to the public during the Obama administration.
@@icankickflipok you might want to investigate and check your facts. WMD were found in Iraq. Small enough to fit a couple bunkers. That's why a bunch of Marines, sued the US government for exposure and non discloser of what was in the bunkers. As of 2005, the entire US knew, we were mislead on the invasion of Iraq. That was well before, Obama, took office. 2006 to 2010, the US military filled their recruitment numbers. Yes, that had everything to do, with the President. 2006, was the peak of the war and bloodiest, yet, more people joined. US Millay enlistment and retention went down, in 2011 to 2015 because of, Obama. It was a direct reflection of how Obama, treated and hated the military. We can see the same under Clinton, in the late 90s. The security of Saudi oil, is extremely important to American. The American dollar, is backed by Saudi oil. Any threat to Saudi Arabia or their oil, is a threat to the American and world economy. War, is simply an extension of policy and politics. We created a military, to protect our borders and to protect US personnel and interests abroad. You may not like it but protecting the US economy, is a just war. Unless your ok with our economy collapsing.

This has been an ongoing problem with military recruiting for decades. To join any branch of the military, you must be mentally, morally, and physically qualified, and the majority of the 17 - 29 year old population falls short in one or more of the three categories. I was a Marine Recruiter in a southern town from 1994 to 1997 and genuinely struggled to recruit the assigned number each month. One issue was the fallacy that, “you can always join the military if you can’t do anything else.” The fact of the matter is that many of the population couldn’t pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery ( ASVAB) test. Several college/jr. college grads failed the pre-ASVAB screening tests. One of the 11 high schools I was assigned to had an AP English teacher ask to take the ASVAB when it was given at the school. She failed it. Another issue was the trend of a sedentary lifestyle. The overwhelming majority of the HS students couldn’t pass the Initial Strength Test, even if they were athletes. Yet another challenge was that “Dr. Mom” would convince their kids that they had asthma and needed an inhaler or that they had ADD/ADHD/OhDeeDooDahDay and needed Ritalin. Dr. Mom would then take little Johnny to enough doctors until they found one who agreed and would prescribe whatever Dr. Mom said. Both medications are disqualifying. Finally, police records and juvenile offenses presented a roadblock to a surprising number of the age-qualified target audience. The old adage of the judge giving the convicted individual the choice of jail or the military has been gone for years - if it was ever actually true. The bottom line is that the military does not want criminals. In three years I recruited 78 young men and women. The common thread is that they were good, hard-working kids who wanted to better themselves and were not afraid of a challenge. I always told them that I would never recruit anyone if I wouldn’t serve with them in combat. This came to fruition; I later served in Iraq with several of them.
@@MattParra15 - No, the ASVAB is designed to measure/predict overall mental acuity and understanding of different occupational fields. Each branch of the military utilizes the ASVAB to determine whether the applicant can potentially pass their schools by requiring certain scores.

If you are a weedsmoker in the military, you can come to the crazy conclusion, that the wars we are fighting, might not be what we are told they are. And regular alcohol consumers tend not to think at all, are easy to control and follow orders without questioning anything.
@@richpanini5295 I can see where you're coming from, but the context of substances is still subjective for everyone. It can easily be said that marijuana can sometimes inhibit certain anxieties and aid in combat by fighting safer and smarter vs scared and dangerous, while alcohol would impair judgement in a way that could make combat harder. As a recovering poly addict, you learn in the programs that everyone uses for their own uses, if that makes any sense.
Not really their decision. Unless recreational marijuana use becomes legal federally, they're barred from service. Just stop smoking pot for a month and you'll be qualified.
He's not wrong in that too many kids wanna go to college, and that army spec ops isnt loud enough to garnish any attention. But he's completely wrong about the motivation to join. No one wants to join and fight die for some CEOs and rich bankers. You really think any of the big money in this country cares about the special operations community?... please... *eyeroll*
That's a pretty narrow minded view point. Don't get me wrong a lot of the military deployed in combat is mostly cannon foughter to be used as a political ram against aggressive adversaries such as Iran or North Korea. But like 75% of the military aren't even combat jobs. It's logistics truck drivers, dentist, secretary's, fireman, etc. So when you say "fight and die" you must realize not many really do that in the military unless they like volunteer for a combat job. Hell most of the military right now is just deploying medical equipment to different parts of the country to "fight" against COVID-19
Stealth WarWolf but we’re not talking about non-combat roles. We’re talking about the army special operations community specifically. They’re experiencing issues from the reasons I listed. Kids nowadays are just disillusioned. 20 useless years in Afghanistan and countless spec ops warriors lost will do that to a generation. Not mention who tf would want to fight and sacrifice so much for the undeserving people, government, and nation we have right now? Hard sell man, hard sell. Not to mention every time there’s a movie released it’s about these guys getting blown up or ripped apart ie Black Hawk Down, lone survivor, men of valor, American sniper, etc. Try to convince these young men to go fight and die in conflicts no ones heard or cares about instead of going to college and chasing some puss. Yeah good luck buddy. And the same goes for non-combat roles. I live in a navy area (PSNS) and everyone who served has nothing positive to say. They despised every second of it.
@@DaManBearPig Well the system is currently rigged considering how expensive college is and how most students drop out due to cost or just quit. 80% of the enlisted are just in the military to get free college and thus why all the non-combat jobs. Also they hate it because of all the stupid rules, and shitty leadership.
DaManBearPig tell that to Jessica buchanan. that’s why the special operations community do what they do, to protect the lives of their respective countries people.
When I was on my way out of the Navy they had just instituted a new base-wide policy that Monster energy drinks were no longer permitted to be sold at any stores on base because it was causing all sorts of health problems.
The QC At peak production the US received less than 0.9% of our total oil from Iraq and 0.00% from Afghanistan. The average number for Iraq hovered around 0.7% while getting more than 80% of our total oil from Canada and the state of North Dakota. After leaving the Iraq war $6,400,000,000,000 in debt, our percentage of oil from Iraq slightly decreased which means that the theory that we invaded for oil makes no sense whatsoever. The reason gas prices fell after the war was because we made an agreement with the Saudi Arabian Department of Defense to pay for their defense budget and they would give us discounted oil in exchange. We invaded Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein’s tyrannical regime and liberate the Iraqi people, plain and simple.
Koen No they don’t. There is more oil in North Dakota, Canada, and Alaska than in Iraq. We would never go to war for something as trivial as oil, and even if we hypothetically did, we wouldn’t waste our time on Iraq when we have so much more here.
Actually, we want to liberate Venezuela (the OIL that is - the biggest reserves on the planet. Shurre, we're soooo concerned about the Venezuelan people that we sanction them so they starve. Oddly, people are starving even more in Africa but we don't give rat's ass since they don't have OIL.

I’ve done recruiting. He’s correct, it honestly is negligible compared to the number of physical/mental hindrances of those interested. The general attitude toward the war doesn’t have much bearing on 17 year olds in East Texas or Central Pennsylvania where the military has mostly been pulling for years. Most folks only ‘kinda’ join for patriotic reasons.
The truth is that while most high school students would be fine with that aspect of the war, the ones they want, fitter, smarter and healthier, do not. They want the best of the best, but the best of the best don't want in. Not to mention that they are losing a lot of people due to mental health related issues. The military is going to have to reevaluate its policies on ADHD, anxiety and depression, because the reality is that more people aren't suffering from those things, its more people are being properly treated. I know a lot of guys who would join but would have to wait until they are 24-25 because of the 3 year rule for some of these drugs. By the time that comes around, they will have careers and not be willing to join up anymore.
dog guy I don’t know, I think people are just becoming smarter and most don’t want to throw away their life for a garbage salary. This country is ridiculous on what it pays certain jobs. Such as teachers, police, military. These people need to be making way more than they are currently. Then maybe more people will want to do it.
We never had a special company for overweight people but they were put on a strict diet. Crazy though seeing how the overweight people in my company were shredded by the time we graduated. Seeing their family reactions was awesome. Sucks thought that after so many years of being out of the military, so many are back to being obese.

I mean, he’s probably right that childhood obesity is lowering the rates of eligibility for the military, but as someone who graduated in 2018, I can confirm that in none of my classes were half of the kids obese. It was also in the Midwest, where you’d imagine a large portion of the population is obese.
I’m in Wichita ks and I’d say maybe 5 % of my male age group (20 ish) is obese. Less are morbidly obese. I can’t comment on the average fitness in terms of cardio and strength but it seems normal. Most obese people I know are 25/30 and up.

I mean. As long as you have money you can make it in just about any college. In the military you are evaluated on your IQ, physical fitness, and psychological faculties. Hearing, Eyes, everything has to be up to their standards. College is much easier to pass. Marines turned me down 8 years ago. Had an 80 on my ASVAB, never studied for it. I could have nearly any MOS, but my vision was not up to par. But I just graduated from trade school this year. Go figure.
I'm an American immigrant. 2 years ago I used to be very depressed and anxious and also had sucidal tendencies. I was going through a lot, my parents got divorced because my mom was sleeping with someone else, and after their divorce I used to see her with her boyfriends. She never used to spend time with me. These events had really bad effects on me. I quit my high school football team, and became obese. I stopped studying and became very invested in video games. Now I'm trying to recover from what I have become, once RUclips recommended me a lecture of Jordan Peterson about single parenthood and its effects on the child. I realised I had a lot of these problems and that motivated me to make myself better. All I'm saying is the American society is fucked up. Even the teachers are left wing supporters and also woke. Another reason, which I don't see none of them bring up in this video, is the huge mistrust in the military. There are a lot of fit, intelligent people out there, who wouldn't even think of joining the military. You can thank people like George Bush for that.
Always Improving exactly! & the rest of thr government that let Bush do whatever he wanted

“We need more people because we’re about to go oil hunting in Iran.”
The QC We don’t need their oil, we never did, and we never will. Iran is no different.
Coleyobooster WFJC companys do
Koen No they don’t.

Because people are becoming pussies we are teaching kids to tattle on you bully and have a "talk" with them instead of punching them in the face, our schools and parents coddle us, face it, my generation and millenials are fucking pussies
@@Sth3no ? The only war the US is involved in is one started by the enemies ?
@@deadcunt9597 this is pointless
@@Sth3no ? No, it's not. The war we are in now ( the war on terror) started because of 9/11. Since then we have decimated terror in the middle east and saved at least thousands of lives in the middle east, western Europe and the US. And if you disagree with that fact, 9/11 killed and injured 9.000 people on its own. The people the military is getting rid of are the kinds of people who would kill you for being anything but what they are. But most of them are dead anyway. (The ones who started this)
As a veteran who's been to college I assure you getting in the army was much easier.
I got into college in like an hour.
A good one btw.

Well kids are 15 in some, where as military is at least 17. So nah nah nah
Veterans are under appreciated in this country, all they get is a “thanks for your service” and really nothing else
The actual combat veterans deserve way more than just a thank you. The other MOSs on the other hand, don't deserve to be thanked, anymore than any other person in the workforce. It's literally just a job they aren't heroes. But no we just put them all under the same umbrella.
@Jesse Gutierrez uhh that's ALL they join for. It isn't for the great pay lol. Do you see janitors wearing their work uniform just to go to mcdonalds? Even the ones who didn't even see combat expect to be treated like they're heroes.
That's what you get for fighting for oil and crap like that
what they deserve
They don’t need more praise, the need a VA that will actually help them with rehabilitation back to civilian life, mental health treatment, better treatment for physical injuries, etc.
