what a talent. what's the best way to develop a loose style of painting? Thank you for your kind words. I am preparing a log video demonstration Soon available.
this is really great...thanks for sharing...good to see someone else figure these problems out...and you have given me good ideas....procedurally and workflow wise...thanks
I was not sure about the likeness of the face. I took a photograph and checked in my computer if I was doing right. Once paint is dry you cannot do much anymore.
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I love any assistance you can offer me
@Soren Landon I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Show! Acho muito artística esta técnica n com traços grossos, sem muita definição! Estou treinando este tipo de trabalho e até que estou evoluindo. Parabéns, você é muito bom!
AWESOME! i would like to know if i can use the same technique with acrylics and if it will have the same effect :( my paint dries too fast and i get a lot of sharp edges :( but hey, this art inspires me not to give up :D
wow, i am truely amazed. i want to paint portraits for a school project, but i have to use real poster paper. which paint is better for that? acrylics or oil?
I am starting with oils .. it is really different fron acrilic ... but som time more like the watercolors for me. I never tried portraits... i will start... now i have to master the medium. see you . thans for your tips here and there.
Hi Ben ... Believed or not i did not see that one before ????? I love love it ... And you did make me laught when you wrote that you did not ask them to smile .it is a « Happy famely » i like what you are : Great man ! I do wish that i will have a fameli to ./ Vous êtes une homme spécial et un grand Artiste ...Bravo
It is a strange phenomena that a framed photograph on display that contains people smiling seems natural but a painting of the same is, by personal experience, very hard to live with after a while...... maybe because of size I don't know....
ArcturusGold it is challenging to paint a smiling subject. Maybe because a painter usually won’t have a live sitter smiling due to the time required to do the painting.. it’s also interesting that when photography started you rarely saw smiling sitters, maybe because painted portraits didn’t have smiling subjects traditionally, now a smile is the norm for photos. Times change
Thank you Carol. I don´t remember because it has been a long time ago, but usually the real painting of every face I do in one day. But preparation, sketches, photography, underpainting etc etc, it took over a month I think.
hi Ben..i was wondering..first of starting the portrait you made a sort of a coat of a grey kind of colour on to the surface of the canvas maybe for preparing it,what was that?thanks
+federico heidkamp Yes I prepare always the canvas with at least three layers of gesso. To that gesso I add a little bit of ivory black and yellow ocher (acrylics) to obtain a sort of off white.
Woah!!! Are you gessoing over oil? Ive heard you cant do that, or it wont stick. Ive wanted to gesso over my initial drawing many times, but was afraid it would ruin the painting
Your technique is of a Master, but the composition looks like a picture taken by a camera made in japan and not for a divine eye. I had a hard time finding a focal point or general theme. Maybe each family person could have handle an artifact accord to their personalities? or maybe wearing rare costumes (Like Rembrandt paintings)
This painting is so awesome...! So difficult to paint someone smiling and you did it masterly! The Happy Family is stunning! Congrats Ben Lustenhower
Thank you so much 😀
