One Of The Worst Truck Stops Of All! They Choose To Be This Way!

- TA in Whitestown Indiana may just be the worst. The restaurant is closed. The Popeyes has a very rude staff. Many drinks in the store are not available. Yet another new Independent truckstop I visit also in Indiana has no issues. And you can eat inside!

Retired now but learned quickly in career how to avoid frustrations like TA example. Good refrigerator, microwave and stocking up from a grocery store whenever I had the opportunity. Fuel stops were for fuel and showers...nothing more. Hundreds of dollars per month went into my bank instead of theirs. Ate much better too.
And their showers aren't anything to stop for now. They really just went downhill
I feel you Dennis my brother convinced me to do the same I told him how much I spend on food at the truckstops and I thought he was gonna smack me sideways..lol..he's a retired chef..he says lorn buy a cooler and get some ice me an you are going food shopping you spend way too much..so I did he tells me what's a good deal on meats and where to get them and store them properly and I'm already saving money.im gonna stock up on juice and water when I get a chance...quick trip is a good place to get fresh food at reasonable prices. These trucks stops will rip you off....ESPECIALLY IN DAMN CALIFORNIA

Are they ever going to change the speed limit for trucks to 65?
I retired from driving after 35 years of OTR . Truck stops have been going downhill for years and a lot of it is due to the fact that everybody wants everything now and they are in a big hurry. They need to bring back the sit down restaurants and kick the fast food out of the truck stops.
110 % WOULDNT HURT IF THEY USED A BROOM AND MOP NOW AND AGAIN.
We dont have paper logs any more. I dont have time to sit around.
@@RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1
And with all due respect, that, in a nutshell is the problem. All these McTruckstops decided somewhere along the way, that they were gonna be "travel plazas" and lost sight of the truckers who made them. Then DOT came along and, just as you say, made it nearly impossible to make time to sit down for a proper meal, like any civilized human being ought to be able to do, and got us eating out of paper bags, snarfing down whatever slobber crap they're selling, fast as they can slap it together. Pretty soon, the restaurants closed and you find yourself standing behind a family of 8 trying to order their slobber crap, while you worry if you'll have enough time to woof yours down and hit the super slab and make it to your appt before running out of time...
Forced to retire 'cause of health after 40 yrs. I miss the driving and the camaraderie but not the shitshow things have devolved to. Good luck out there and stay safe!
@@RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1 I'm retired, but still move carnival rides back and forth between New York and Florida, NO E.L.D. in any of the trucks. I use paper logs. No problems as yet.
Back in late 70s Ever time I got a chance to eat at a truck stop I would park right in the front, looking threw the window, not even getting out of my car you could tell instantly if it was worth getting a good breakfast compare to the Army mess halls, Always enjoyed talking to the truckers, who always had something to say about politicians, cost of fule, weather, all of those guys were characters... some were really Krispy characters. Never forget Vale Colorado, they had a mon & pop restaurant up on the hill, you could always pull in there when you were on leave, and get a cup of coffee, and pie,at 01:00 in the morning, a sign was on the counter that said coffee is 35 cent a cup.. pie is 75 cents a piece,,,Went to bed, Help your self, keep the counter clean!
I believe her name was Thema and Hank. What a great time for memories.
As a 43 year of over the road driver TA at one time was the Cadillac of truck stops. Now they are the toilet bowl of truck stops. Absolutely no customer service.
Ta total assholes
Gotta agree with you about the T/A's. I don't stop at them unless I absolutely have to.
Used to be so happy to stop at TA, and Country Pride restaurant. Now this is the worst of all truck stops. Don't even get fuel at TA any longer.
T/A was good until they bought the 76 truck stops. They went downhill after that.
@@tlspiker5341 🤣 they used to be good now a days if you can find one that's open you only have a very small selection of food to chose from....salad bar days are gone😪 they claim they can't get anyone to work for them...or it's to go only.
I miss the old truckstops where you could sit in a diner (always open 24 hours) and have some waitress pouring your coffee and calling you “Honey” and “Sugar!” Truckers talked to each other too! Nowadays you are all alone except you have your “device” in hand!
I hear you driver. Back in the day most truck stops had 24 hrs sit down restaurants. Sometimes it is hard to get any food if you drive late. It is inconvenient for the truck stops to have food for drivers anymore. Trucking is 24seven us drivers have to operate at all hours of the day. You would think the truck stops would. I miss the mom and pop truck stops ,they definitely had the best food.
Isn't that the world now? All alone device in hand ....
Ray, you're making me sad, you really are.
Ray, we pine for the 'old days' because in many ways, it was better back then. People just cared about each other more, and things moved a skosh slower.
Instant gratification and instant satisfaction have infected our society.

Now there is an old school driver, who knows how to do it! I had 47 years before retirement! 47, accident free and a hell of a lot of miles! 1966-2013!
it's not the driving that's tiring, it's the other drivers that is tiring
Driving the truck was easy. It's all the crap you have to deal with out there that's tiring & stressful.
I remember the good old days. When truck stops had full service and trucks came first. They would fuel your truck wash windows check your tires and oil. If you wanted they would even park your truck if you wanted to go in and eat at a real restaurant or take a shower. Fuel was 27.9 with a 6 cent discount that the driver could keep and we didn't show on company ticket. Most times that would pay for their meal. If a truck and a car pulled in at the same time the car would have to wait. We respected the drivers and they us. God I am old.
Same memories for me, plus the crazy promotions such as free glassware. And don't forget the S&H Green Stamps and Gold Bond stamps.
Wish I had drove back then.
@@TreeLBollingTreeMan I had so many green stamps at one time went into a store and bought 1 of everything and still had stamps left.

I've worked from 2004 to 2011 and it was great! I'm back out 2021 of November and the Truck Stops are some of the worse I have ever witnessed! Some are ran down, the Pilots and TA's are not giving points for every purchase, TA,s don't have full Johnny no more in many states, I still haven't been able to get a TA card on site, they're socalled kiosk locks me out of getting a frequent customer card, it's a total grab for every dime of the truck driver in these truck stops. So truck stops are no longer I help the truck drivers but they are predators to truck drivers!
Yeah I also started driving in 2004 to 2019 taking a little break now fixing to get back out there in the next month or so and a bunch of truck stops have went way down hill
I started putting shop points on friend's card that would fuel there.IDGAF about the convoluted driver payback of the Petro/TA
Our truck driving guys and gals may not be perfect but they should and must be treated far better than the way they are.
Many drivers are rude and surly and yet they can!t figure out why they are treated the way they are!
Some of us know who the real Heroes are... and that they don't wear capes. Just sayin....
@@genehart8088 many drivers are rude and surly because of the bs that we have to deal with on a day to day basis, not to mention the fact that a lot of us stay out on the road for weeks and months at a time, not because we want to, but because we have to in most cases. Then to make matters worse, shutdown at a truckstop at the end of a long day, and can’t get a bite to eat because the frickin restaurant is closed at 5pm due to “staff shortage”, or the showers are out of service because “plumbing issues” which seem to be happening more frequent lately. That’s only just a little of the crap the we experience. That should explain the rudeness. I, try my best to be patient, and understanding when I come across these issues, but my patience is wearing very thin.
Yes! Truck drivers are the back bone of this country. If they walk off the job, none of us eat!!! Many thanks to all of you for the hard work you do & sacrifices you make to get the goods we need to us quickly. God bless all of you! ❤️🙏🏻
Agree 💯
I stay away from TA now for the most part, I go to Pilot or Loves. They are cleaner and the staff is friendlier.
Agreed
Sheetz and Thornton aren’t bad either. Newer and cleaner at the ones I go to. Nobody seems to be mentioning that clean restrooms can make a big difference in a truckers day.
U r Definitely Right Driver
Fuck pilot, they don't have enough parking for those of us who run late in to the night. If you parked by 1600 you are sol with pilot unless you wanna buy a reserved spot
The TA motto... Give us all of your money and shut up because we don't car how you feel. They treat us like cash cattle. And don't get me started on having to get a tire repair in one of their shops where you will sit for 3+ hours every time. Or this damn pay to park BS. That is one thing I like about love's, no paid parking.
Man, am I ever glad I'm not on the road anymore.
TA was already beginning their downward spiral in the late 80s when I ventured out onto the road. They quickly became a better than nothing choice of last resort.
Stay safe out there.
I have never been a truck driver, but I like your vlogs. I do however remember my dad stopping at truck stops when we traveled because they had the cleanest bathrooms, didn’t try to rob you on snacks and stuff, and occasionally we would sit down for a decent meal. Not anymore. Like you said, they are in it for the money, and usually the truckers are lined up to pay for fuel, and sit around waiting for a shower. Sad really because you guys move the goods and services. Could not get along without you! I always respect you guys.
Ironical isn't it, "Due to distribution issues we are temporarily short of some items." Perhaps because so many truck drivers are leaving the industry because standards of service at places like this are so cr*ppy 🤔
There’s no shortage of truckers, companies don’t want to pay a decent wage, so no one applies for openings and the companies say there’s a shortage, a lot of companies want you give to them 2 hours or more free time when waiting at a shipper or receiver, but they charge the broker but you never see it and they wonder why they can’t get drivers nowadays you can make just as much flipping burgers at a Mickey D’s
@@robertesposito9871
You aren’t accurate about what you speak. Driver wages in my part of trucking have almost doubled in the past 6 months. My company has many drivers making 6 figures. The top earners will make 140k. X endorsement and HazMat are required tho.
Your opinions have nothing to do with facts.

Got stuck at this TA about 20 years ago due to a ice storm. Wasn't to bad back then compared to some of them. Though did spend most of my time in the bunk, TV, Fridge, Microwave.
During our "Road Trip" from Augusta, GA to Las Vegas, NV and back (wedding and then scenic trip back), we stopped at a few T/A stops, and pretty much found them all to be like this one. We converted over to Love's, and had a great stop, every time. Drove 2510 miles that trip, and am now sold on Love's.
there is a trucker shortage, why? owner operators pay 3 time as much for their trucks, three times more for fuel, many truck stops could care less about your needs. to combat the shortage the government is going to let teenagers drive interstate. I made the same income in 1970 as you guys are today. years ago drivers fought for deregulation and they got it, the business went down hill from there. Steve with your old cab over Pete stand a better of making it, no monthly payment, your down time for repairs is low as you do most of the work. good luck and hope for a profitable year, pull toy here
You lying now
I agree with everything going up 3times but teenagers are not allowed to drive semi trucks on the interstate. And I make lots of money as a company driver been doing it for 20 yrs. It's just the cost of living has gone up 45 percent. Now the driver and truck shortage.... No there isn't one
@@nahnah6765 you need to start paying attention. The teenagers are about to be out here with us. Actually there are some teenagers already out trucking. As of right now they can do intrastate only but that’s about to change.
@Michael's Production's that’s one of the main issues with trucking. 75% of the drivers don’t really have a clue what’s going on in the industry.

Sometimes fuel card will choose the truckstop...whether you like it or not.
I don't! Once and a while I go into one to see if the prices and or service has gotten better and it has not so I walk back out without spending anything. I would rather just park there and walk a half a mile to a non truck stop restaurant and not get ripped off.

We have it easy as only driving a SUV.
Keep up the good work. I drove truck from Denver to the whole east coast
Steve you should watch some of trucking with Schmidt he's out of western Iowa the only time he stops at a truck stop is to get fuel, when he stops to eat he pulls into a shopping center where there's regular restaurants other than that he'll get a snack and a drink at fuel stop. The irony that pisses me off is you see and hear all these folks talk about us truckers eating healthy on the road but they only leave us with that fattening fast-food crap served to us by kids who bring their attitudes to work with them. With that being said, Steve, that B-model sounds beautiful!!!
I hear what you are saying about leaving us drivers with the fattaring food at these restaurant at TA or other places. And kind of pisses you off for as people's talking about us eating healthy. All that maybe true what you said. But at the end of the day YOU STILL HAVE A CHOICE to buy food in fast food restaurants or buy food to put in your truck , things you like as well To eat healthy. THAT'S A YOU RESPONSIBLE CHOICE YOU MAKE YOURSELF. No kids that work at those restaurant or the food that sells at those fast foods or TA Is their fauth for your own CHOICE how you eat. Staying healthy how you eat is strictly YOUR OWN CHOICE. I wish people would just stop blaming other people or places and take responsibility of YOURSELF.
Your vidjas truly make me miss pulling a RGN 30 Ton! Stay safe out there brotha!
Yep. Thorntons At mm 16 i live at mm 29 we stop in there quite often. When it first opened was cheapest fuel around but it caught up with the other's. Sometimes still cheeper than its neighbors.
Ive only been driving for 6 months but i try to avoid TA, loves is where i usually try to park for the nite cause they have bigger and usually cleaner parking. Pilot flying j never have enough parking and are always a hassle getting out and gassing up.
U do great job of showing what a driver does everyday. Thanks! Also I don't know if I told you thanks for ur service to the country 🇺🇸 I told u to tell ur dad thanks for his service to.🇺🇸👍😍🤗
Back in the 80"s that TA was a 76 and it was pretty good
My favorite 76 was New Orleans. Darn the luck if I didn't break down there every Fat Tuesday, and darn the luck they had a free shuttle to Bourbon Street. I had no luck that week!!!
Like allways another great video .You keep moving the cameras around for some fantastic views .Thank you Steve ,keep them coming .😀👍
You hope that some of these same places that have bad service will eventually change but sometimes that is just a continuous cycle that stays bad. You said it, they chose too be that way. Its easy for them. They still make money because its a necessity and they don't try and make things better for the customer. I would pack stuff to eat that doesn't need refrigerating for situations like this rather than eat that sh!t.
If I were you, I would have a couple of drinks to forget about what happened to you at the TA truck stop.
Because nothing will make his day better than having to deal with police. Isn't there a zero tolerance with alcohol in the cab and zero tolerance for while driving?
Love your channel Steve, you have a cool nice truck, you show these new trucks up, you have a cosie cabin. Keep up the good work Steve.
I'm impressed with your camera angles & yeah some truck stops are just down right sad 😔
Best wishes and Blessings to your parents. Hope their transition is smooth.keep the great shots coming.yeah TA and cops suck.
It’s funny we in Canada are not experiencing any shortages, food, coins etc.
Hang In There FSC, great content and keep the videos coming. If hard working folks quit the world will suffer but the worker will too. Our country is giving up at an alarming rate which is evident in your frustration. Do the best you can, nobody can take that away from you
Nice video it's really cool to see a cab over there's only a flew still out there running
Man I love your cab over and your narration of trucking you make it so exciting
Stay safe and keep it rolling my bro.
America needs us now more than ever.
I deal with rude people everyday the world 🌎 is full of people like that love watching the videos keep up the great work 👍🏾
I’m not a trucker but my dad used to be, very relaxing listening to the sounds of the truck, even just watching you shift or turning my head and looking at the sleeper ( easy to look on go pro). I only wish I could feel the vibrations of the truck. Many weeks were spent on the road with my dad. (Long haul trucker) loving your content, don’t think I’m watching in your upload order but I always give the like! 👍 keep it up bro❤️
I remember truck stops from the 1950s as I hitch hiked across the country. No freeways. Nothing resembling now. Many truckers picked me up. Thank you.
I love your camera set up, all the different angles.
Glad us Subs could make ya day better😎 keep on truckin, we will keep on Shovin
(Posted by Rick Pickell) Years ago, I got botchelism from their drinking water served in the restaurant. Was dog sick for three days.
Yep, I think I'll go over to the loves with little parking spots and long wait lines on the fuel island. That will make me happy 😊
It is unusual these days to see a trucker slammin' gears. The new trucks these days all are automatics. Maybe I am too old but I think the auto transmissions take the romance out of trucking.
Oh it does ill take a 10 over a automatic anyday
Hey Steve the Gatorade shortage been going on in Florida for about 2 months but the last month its been even worse I drink G 2 red and there none around keep on trucking safe
Blessings from Amsterdam , The Netherlands , very nice your Videos , Thank you
Be Happy always , enjoy , Smile .
I'm sssso sick of people using "COVID" as an excuse for absolutely everything -- you're right, they absolutely CHOOSE to be this way!
You should see the abysmal conditions of the TA in Aurora Oregon 4 out of 7 fuel islands have been roped off for years even before covid. The bathrooms and showers are now closed completely so there is no place to use a toilet or wash your hands before they closed them they had sewage backing up into the toilets and sinks. The restaurant has been closed for 2 years because of covid and the Popeyes inside opens and closes randomly and is not open on weekends
I remember that place well. Pre Covid. Popeyes gave me a 16 piece once. 15 wings, 1 theigh. That one went back.
@@fsctrucking I would have been angry beyond belief. Probably would have stormed back in there threw it at them and demanded my money back. That is one situation where going "full Karen" would have been appropriate. But 26 years in this industry have turned me into a bit of a grumpy old man. Now the BS is not worth the pay and I am looking to get out of it. Only thing is I don't want to work in some place where they want me to be smothered by a damn mask all day. Really that is the only thing keeping me out here.
Glad you enjoy it! Wish I could, the good water is under the bridge for me. Good luck!
gday steve. great vid m8. i was in the trucking industry over here for a number of years. i drove an mh mack 550 horse v8 logging truck for about a year till the company went broke. not from my driving. the boss was a heavy gambler. than god we dont have pop eyes over here.
Love your video's.nice sound your rig.
Nope, nope, nope. Get a fridge, and a microwave for your truck. Truck stops are for fueling, showers, and maybe if you ever need something for ER reasons. But, not for food. Many truck stops are horrible. You can catch something just by looking at it. Stay safe.
Just came thru there this week. My Man ain't lying.
I love you camera setup the best I've seen really nice
Like the trailer cam ! I started on a freight liner cabover .
You drive a Cabover?!? That's so cool! I'm always in glee when I see one on the road. Your cabin looks so cozy!
It has all I need. A bag for my clothes and a comfy bed. If I'm not in it I'm working.
I remember seeing Cab Overs like yours. Keen Trucking in Carlise, Pa. had them. They also hauled big and oversized loads. There yard was always full of Backhoes. Loaders, and etc. Brand new heavy machines. They were always good looking trucks.
I feel your pain on the Gatorade there is only one kind and it's red
Pretty cool video,i would love to ride in one of this 18 wheels trucks..!
I love the ol cabover, I have a 86 freightliner on the farm 400 Cummins 9spd. It's been a really good ol truck for me.
FB friend of mine, Ron Park drives for Wiley Sanders out of AL. Drives all over from AL; L.A., Pacific NW, NYC, & points in between. Like you, he’s a great America; loves this country. He has all kinds of trouble finding places to eat & Ive tried going to bat for him to Micky D’s. Was a trainer but is a driver/recruiter now.
That’s where I started my truck driving career. I started with Mayflower out of Carmel Indiana. They kept us in a motel in Lebanon Indiana, just north of Whitestown. I’m from Florida and that TA is one of the first truck stops I ever went to. Bought my first atlas there. This was 1992. Matter of fact I bought a 1989 Peterbilt 362 just like the one you’re driving from Mayflower.
I was listening to you go through the gears, and my guess is 3406 cat and Eaton/Fuller 13spd trans. Nice truck, enjoyed the sound of it.
This video made me subscribe. You couldn't be more right!
It's disgraceful how every single truckstop restaurant's are closed but all the fast food outlets are still trading.
I've been using the golden coral , food is well cooked and they still offer the whole buffet thing. Most of them you can park nearby. I hate fast food outlets.
My uncle was a driver and I would be along for the ride. well long story short, I cant begin to tell you some of the experiences we had at these stops. Service was horrible in a lot of places. A lot of them acted like they didn't give two cents about keeping their stop in good condition.
This is great video!
I was for sure it was gonna be the TA in Gary, Indiana. Close ! Lol
There’s a loves just one exit up. And it’s usually filled. But these are two of the
three truckstops that are on the north side of Indianapolis that come in on 65.
Then up a few more exit is the flying J and it’s not much better.
