Mine is M222222222222222222 iPad Prooooooooooooooooooooook 2tbbbbbbbbbbbbbb rammmmmmmmmm give meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The iPad Air 2 came out 8 years ago it got 8 years of updates from iOS 8 to iPadOS 15 that’s crazy
I know right
I still use the iPad Air 2
Should I upgrade it as a student (I have enough budget)
Is it still working?
@@erika7002 perfectly
And also getting constant updates
I upgraded from my ipad air 1 to the ipad air 4. The air 1 was just slow and didn’t get any new updates. So I upgraded to the 2020 air and not the 2022 model cuz it is too expensive. The 2020 still performs like it’s new and in combination with apple pencil 2. Awesome workflow for writing notes and drawing things. And I have the full apple eco system with the 2019 macbook air, iphone 13 pro and apple watch S4. So everything works ald updates seamlessly. Even the universal control with the mac and ipad. Awesome feature!
great review man, i like this straight-to-the-point, simpler format VS tech reviewers that flood us with specs. I bought an iPad Pro 12.9 last month but I'm thinking about going back to the smaller size because, as you said, cheaper iPads essentially can do the same and the 12.9 while gorgeous is massive (I'm not sure I'll enjoy carrying it around campus)
I reaaally appreciate you comparing the sizes of each iPad against each other and compared to piece of paper. That’s what I’ve been missing in all iPad reviews/ comparisons so far. Thank you 🎉
Thank you! I really appreciate you getting straight to the point. Ive just discovered your videos and they are super clear for someone like me who rarely updates their tech.
I would say air is the better option. The M1 chip is useful in zoom calls...it helps displaying multiple screen
How many?
Gen 9th also can do multiple screen
@@abibcbas4328 i think he meant stage manager
I got my iPad mini 5 in 2019 and I’m rocking this thing until it’s not supported any longer. Mainly because of the size. Love the mini. I’m happy about the mini redesign it just wasn’t enough for me to shell out hundreds of dollars for a minor upgrade. I’m hoping OLED comes to the iPad mini in the next facelift of the model.
Fair enough - hold on to it as long as it still works for you!
try to use it 1-1.5 years more then get a ipad pro m1 or ipad 10 or maybe newer ipads
I just got my first iPad, 2 weeks ago. I got the iPad 9th Generation. Mainly use for watching movies and Adobe apps. This is such a great review!
Awesome, hope you enjoy it and thank you for the comment!
That augmented camera whatnot would be amazing for going into interior design ngl
Using the M1 IPad Air for school, but also still rocking my older 2019 Mini Gen 5 - they last forever, but you notice the slower they get in contrast to the M1 chip set of the new devices.
Short answer: iPad Air (M1) 256Gb for most people. The pro is not necessarily needed unless you’re editing videos or doing art (160 Hz for faster screen time response).
Source: I have an iPad Pro 2021 (M1)
Well, the Air is not an option for 70% of students, because taking notes on a 60HZ display is pretty crappy for this price. The M1 is also not reall needed. So the better an cheaper option would be a Pro, even 2018 would be fine.
@@compactreview what kind of student are you talking about?
@@compactreview taking notes is awesome on the m1 air lol u def dont need a pro for note taking

Still using my 2018 11in iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. Pretty cool that I've been using it for over four years now, it's gotten me through a lot of assignments!
Such a solid device, even 4 years later! I assume performance is still really good?
@@HarrisCraycraft it really is! I hadn't noticed how nice 120hz screen actually is until I got my 13 Pro. I use my iPad for so many things now, I couldn't go without it. That being said, I do think I will upgrade to the rumored October M2 updated Pro version. Gotta have that new new sometimes! lol
Hi sor i wanna ask how many gb i mean is 64 gb enough for assignments notes? I want to but i pad air 5
Everytime you say that's okay, I feel sad for myself.
Review aside, I loved how you quoted Theodore Roosevelt...
I upgraded a few months ago from the ipad pro 2017 to the newer ipad pro and i couldnt be happier! I debated getting the ipad mini instead but as a student the bigger screen size and the baseline storage of the ipad pro made it the better choice for me. With how much I use the ipad for school as well as playing genshin, I gotta say it was fully worth the upgrade and I dont regret it at all :) I've been debating getting the magic keyboard but so far am fine using a bluetooth one i already had from logitech
Do you think it's worth it to get ipad pro 2017 in 2022?
@@kdramatrain4479 I’d probably get at least the 2018
@@fakesignin7223 yeah, I just got the 2018 and it is working great really
I have a Gen 7 iPad and its ok. I still use it. I got it brand new. My favorite iPad though is my Gen 6 iPad mini. I love it so so so much. My iPad was great for school but now that I am out of school having a 5G iPad mini is awesome for work and everything back up to my iPad and my MacBook Pro which is so nice. I am a social worker so I do alot of work on the go and various casework so the mini fits my lifestyle.
Do you plan on updating video when new iPad 10th gen and new iPad Pro come out ? Love the video
I think the best device is an iPad Air 4 with the new design Apple Pencil 2 and Magic Keyboard support and is a really good bargain on the used or refurbished market
Short answer: the base iPad. If you need something stronger, get the m1 air 256 or pro 128gb.
Best Ipad comparative review I've heard. Thanks!
That was a really good in-depth breakdown. Kudos man!! Really saved me a lot of money.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for the comment
still using my ipad 2018 9.7in ipad, its a bit slow and will glitch some times but i use it every single day without major problems!
iPads do have fantastically long lives. My current one (iPad pro 9.7) is from 2017 and is just now dying on me due to storage space (its only 32gb). I'm definitely planning on the mini as a reader but need to think about what kind of iPad to get to replace this one.
I have the iPad air 4 with 256 gigs. I also got the air 5 64 gigs from school. I find myself using the 4 more because it had all my stuff on it already.
Awesome video i must admit. Well put together, super down to earth.
i was a student many many years ago, but for me the main question is: what do you study? a journalist does not have the same needs as a chemist or an engineer
I'm not the guy from the video, but i can tell you something... That's the apple magic, it's chameleonic gadgets, you can give it the use you prefer, i'm a chemist and photographer, my ipad 9th gen (256 gb) runs perfectly my design apps, my drawing apps, my chemistry books and apps like notion and such, where i do my notes. I do recommend it
@@annam3030 happy 4u. when u got something that works, keep it and enjoy it. never touch a running system. i think that for a journalist or a school-teacher an ipad-pro would be an overkill (but if he wants it and has the budget, why not get it) and that an architect or a designer would need something more than my ipad mini
im using the ipad air 3 from 2020 till today. amazing ipad, with laminated display, headphone jack.. love it.
Awesome, I really liked the old Airs
I’m still using my iPad Air 3 as well and it’s still ticking but I do want to get the new iPad Air 5 but may wait to see about the iPad Air 6
How abt the battery? Is it still the same or do u notice it getting emptier quicker the more the years go buy?
@@qlikeabunnyyt9219 do you have ipad air 5?.there are many criticizing its battery ?.is it true that it runs out fast ?
Thank you, for this excellent review of Apple's current iPad line-up. Normally for most people, I agree it is best to check Apple's refurbished web site for an older model to save money. However, for new models it is hard to beat the pricing on Apple's Educational web site because, most products are sold at about a 10 percent discount. When asked, which is the best iPad model to buy, I just say that, it depends on your design perferance ... like the newer design pick-up an iPad Air. Yet, if like myself you prefer the older classic design with a home button, lighting connector, and headphone jack then, pick-up the basic iPad version. Also, as a student would only suggest the wifi only versions (because on campus wifi should be everywhere). But, as a professional, I always buy the basic iPad model with max RAM and the cell data option (smile...smile).
I appreciate the comment/perspective. Thanks for watching!
If you want to buy iPads this time it’s best if you check the refurbished section on Apple cause the price has reduced very well
Hi, Harris: Have you ever tried to move pictures from Pinterest to Goodnotes or Notability? I tried, it just doesn't work. There are so many videos on RUclips about this. It seems one can simply drag and drop. But it doesn't work for me. Why is this?
What would you recommend for a student who prioritizes battery life, graphics (for genshin impact and general viewing experience), notetaking, compatible with microsoft 360, editing, general comfortability, laptop replacement, longetivity (I plan to use this till it becomes an heirloom).
I have a lot of options, mostly second hand. iPad Pro 10.5 vs iPad Air 3rd Gen vs iPad (9th Gen). The iPad Pro 10.5 is wildly cheaper than both of these, while the other two is midranged but still fit within the budget. What do you recommend?
Thank you for the very good overview.
I think I will go for the basic Ipad, and then buy a stylus and keyboard from other brands. I only use it for webbrowsing and other light usage.
The only thing I am still thinking about is that it does not have an M1 cpu, but an older A13 cpu. Does that mean it will stop getting software updates sooner than the M1?
I don't know how big the difference is between the A13 and M1 architecturally. If they can both run the same software versions, then there is probably no problem. But if Apple needs to create 2 versions of each piece of software to make it run on both cpus ( like with the old Intel Mac and the new M1 Mac ) then the A13 may lose software support earlier.
Subbed due to alike thinking. I agree that it’s best to save money if or when possible. Such a great way to start the video. Thanks!
i’m a lit student who’s tired of how heavy my laptop is, so i’m looking for an ipad for note taking and essay writing. i’m leaning towards the 9th gen since i don’t need a lot of power to open google docs or look at pdfs
So have you brought something?
such a good video, straigth to the point
I’m upgrading from budget iPad 8th generation to the iPad Air 4.
Im getting the paper-like screen protector for my iPad Pro
So, I'm considering buying an ipad for long term usage. For the next 6-7 years, if not more. My current laptop has being used since 2013 I want to primarily use it for college, art, and writing. There are other things I want to do like content creation and writing programing texts. So, would an ipad pro 11 inches worth it. I'm talking about the 2021 version. Thanks for reading😀
Welcome back Harris! :)
i had ipad 8 and its good it does have same purpose as ipad pro pr even the ipad air 4 can do with this ipad
i wanna get an ipad, but my question is, is it comfortable to use anki on an ipad? or should i get a laptop?
I got a 2020 iPad Air in 2023.
It had everything the 2022 air has, is was 30€ more than the mini and it supports the pencil 2 that the new iPad 10 doesn’t. + I dont care for the m1 processor because I wanted something for media consumption and more taking, I have a pc a laptop and a work laptop for that.
Im thinking of getting ipad air 5th gen bc it has everything you need for a much cheaper price and 120hz refresh doesnt matter to me and i think the air is the sweet spot if you are a student like me
The 9 is 250 on sale right now at Target. So you can get a 20$ stylus pencil and 30$ keyboard case for 300$. I think that’s still a better deal than the Air 5 in some ways.
Thank you sir, this was an awesome video. Thanks for sharing your real life experiences that actually apply to many of us broke students.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What is the best size for reading PDFs and note-taking? 11 inch or 12.6?
hey! the 10th gen ipad might be coming out soon so you think i should wait for it to come out or just get the 9th gen now?
I’d wait for the 10th gen if you can, should only be 6-8 weeks away
I use the IPad 7th generation and I love it still!!!
Your video is quite comfortable ❤️
Curious to know if the software supports gets outdated quickly for the iPads? I used to own one that's like a decade old, and i think it's one of the first few iPads that were released. Even though the battery and hardwares are still working fine. But the software really killed everything.
Chrome and 99% of the apps are no longer supported. Not sure what iOS is on but it has ended it's support as far as I'm concerned.
Ik nobody should really expect to use a device for over a decade but if the hardware still works why limit the software.
Apple tends to support its products for a really long time. You can buy even the cheapest iPad and be confident it will get 4 years of OS updates. Versions with better RAM and processors will be supported for far longer than that. BUT unlike in Android land where you can be on a five year old version of Android and still have nearly all apps compatible, if your iPad is out of OS updates for a year or so, tons of apps will not work.
Decided to go for the 11 inch cause of battery
Please don't get paperlike screen protector. It will damage your pencil tips and it will make your screen color quality worst. 😭😭
Just get a normal tempered screen protector
in Portugal a new 256 ipad air is the same price as ipad pro m1 512 and the ipad pro m2 128, i dont think its worth getting the air
I can't decide between getting the 12.9 iPad Pro and the iPad Air. I had a large iPad Pro before and I loved the size, but I don't really use the Pro features. I thought of just getting the air, because I do most of my work on my Macbook and only use my iPad for notes. But then again, I can't imagine choosing a smaller screen. But the price... as a student, it's a long time of saving before I can afford a new one. So looking on the price the Air would be a better fit.
Actually most people say the Air is more practical for taking notes. I have been using it for a year now and I'm super happy with it. Although I have a Macbook Air I wanna get the iPad Pro just for its size and brightness. Its better for working outside. I'm curious what the new models will bring this year. I'll decide when they come out. For now I couldn't justify buying a Pro just for the screen size.
@@paprika2280 That's true, I love the size of the 12.9, because working with books or split screen is better, but to be honest, most of the time, I grab my MacBook Air instead for most tasks, because it's easier. So only for notes, some Netflix and some typing I don't need to spend more than a thousand, so the Air would be enough. But I guess I'll wait, I want more improvements coming to iPad first, even though mine is a little bit broken.
If u want a 12.9 inch just get a 2020 ipad pro :) its fantastic, you won't see sny difference in perfomance and you will get updates for at least 5 more years. :)
@@MT-ry8gv Yeah I know but I really want the stage manager feature for some reason :D

I hesitate between the iPad Air M1 and the pro M2. Actually I know it’s not a need cause I already have the MacBook Air m1 for study. But I wanna take handwritten notes without using paper.
Since you already have a m1 macbook why spending as much just to write ? It’s totally useless ! You already have all the pro software that apple is limiting on ios in macos , buy a refurbished 2018 or 2020 ipad for half the price and 95% of the experience

Hi can I buy iPad from you?
Is it a good idea to buy a refurbished iPad Air 4 in January 2024?
The IPAD AIR 4 is still good. I use it even today.
The question is should I buy an iPad not witch iPad!
Question 1: Should I buy an iPad as a student?
Answer: Yes, definitely.
Question 2: Which one should I buy?
Answer: Watch the video.
All these rich RUclipsrs mostly recommend new or refurbished. Us poor people know the best is to buy used, ipad 7th like new for $130? Awesome deal. IPad Air 4 like new conditions? $270. The Logitech combo touch retail $150? Got it for $40 on eBay like new in box. Yes it’s a bit of a gamble to buy used but it’s the best route if you don’t have much money. Just learn to look for bad signs like water or charging port damage, test speakers, etc. Most important always check that is not iCloud lock. Many times you need Wi-Fi to set up iPad in order to know if it has iCloud which is annoying, thank you apple. Used -$50, scratches -$50, Cracked screen -$100.

Best ipad fir me is surface pro
I like the surface devices, but since I own a Macbook Air the iPad is a no brainer. Together with central control it's a pretty neat way to use both devices at the same time, although I never tried it. Only used sidecar which already is sick. I'm gonna make use of it when I start studying in February.
you sound like zone of tech
Istg why does everyone hype the pro
The air is the same chip and everything jsut no Face ID and worse camera and let’s be real
You don’t use the iPad camera do you
The air can use Magic Keyboard, apple pen gen two
So it’s the exact same as the pro setup jsut worse camera and no Face ID
So why send 750 on a base model pro when for the same price you can get the air full storage?
I’m just saying with the research why would you pay that extra money for a camera and Face ID
