Real tho, I always thought it was odd that Glinda told her she could've left at anytime. In the end they never needed to go to Oz anyway💀 Glinda straight up used Dorothy to handle her dirty work😂😂😂
I just want to point out as someone who's read the book, there's actually two good witches in the original book. The 1st good witch didn't know how to send Dorothy home, so, she told her that the wizard might be able to help her (and we all know how it went with the wizard). After the wizard flies away in his big air balloon, Dorothy and the gang find out about another good witch. They go on another journey to find her and when they do, that witch is the one who tells Dorothy she could've just used her silver slippers to go back home all this time. I guess the movie only included one good witch to save on screen runtime.
@@sydneyalmanza2768ya, because their money probably went to getting a real lion skin costume for the cowardly lion and all the toxic materials they used on the other actors.
The Good Witch of the North, while Good, wasn't particularly knowledgeable about the Silver Shoes. But at least she gave Dorothy her protection in terms of the kiss on the forehead, so most enemies, short of the Wicked Witch of the West, were very unlikely to interfere with her. Glinda had nothing to do with the Shoe Transfer Problem in the original, not that we know of. :-)
No one gets Glinda. She was not the villain, she was a metaphor for a guru guiding all the characters to self realization. The characters must do the work themselves just like real life. No cheats allowed until self enquiry is made.
Do you mean the original telling of the Wizard of Oz or the Wicked novel? I've been meaning to dive into all the books related the the World of Oz, but don't really know where to start.
According to the set designers and producers, that train belonged to the Wizard of Oz so not for general use 😅 because you know we were all thinking the same thing! ❤
The real villain was the producer and the cast who quite literally abused Judy Garland in this role. Supposedly the actress for the wicked witch was the only person who was nice to her on set.
Dorothy was actually being sexually assaulted by the little people( the actors) and wasn't allowed to put on weight or eat and had to take pills given by director
The REAL villain was the director of the movie. He was a piece of work. He treated Dorthy like trash. She was on uppers and downers throughout the entire film. If ya get a chance look all that up. A sad story really.
Because in that time frame kids were supposed to be seen not heard and expected to act a very specific way. Dorothy represented all those kids who didn't act accordingly which is why her family locked her away in an asylum
@oooooxxxxxz7426 it was both they literally locked Dorothy away for being crazy afterward. Did you never read the book? I swear Judy was method acting before it became a thing
Facts! Glinda used her magic to put the shoes on Dorothy and left Dorothy to fend for herself in a land she's never been in and only saved her when she saw Dorothy and friends were incapacitated. She wanted Dorothy to kill the Witch of the East. Which (no pun intended) I don't understand considering Dorothy is a human teenager while Glinda is powerful. The Witch of the east just wanted the slippers her sister left behind. She's entitled to them. Not a stranger. IN FACT, I believe the Wizard and Glinda conspired to make this entire story happen.
I think the part everyone is missing is that all the characters were a figment of Dorothys subconscious bc Oz was a DREAM. When she woke up all the characters even the witch, were ppl she knew.
Yhh I think they talking about the actual story itself not the fact that it was a dream no one really cares that it's a dream I mean we not that crazy right I'm js the stories there selves are complicated ASF but really good regardless of the point that the movie was making the actual problem I think is that there's to many different versions if I'm not mistaken the wizard of Oz the books and the movies have very different details like most do but the details are to different the wicked is just based on wizard of Oz hell I think even the plays has different details and everyone's tryin to mix them up I wish these great authors told there story's a lil bit better from all points of view of the characters cause now it's just a big ass mess I mean come on it ends as a dream but the other to popular versions don't say shyt about Dorothy in them if they do it's not till towards the end
The villain is the movie industry. The wicked witch was covered in burns, the tin man had chemical burns, Dorothy was harassed for her weight, it never ends!
You could have mentioned instead that the tin man actually got poisoning from the silver makeup used thus making him really sick and they had to get another actor to replace him. They changed the silver makeup afterwards.
Dorothy also was graped and did drugs to stay skinny which caused drug problems the cigarettes and coffee the lion man passed out a few times due to the fact they used real lion fur and there's a few more things that I've forgotten but this movie scared me as a kid just odd feelings now we know why
Wicked was one of the first, "Bad guy actually not so bad when you think about it/good guy actually bad guy" stories that I can remember. Very novel 25 years ago. Now it's the trope: virtually every heinous villain gets rehabilitated in some way. It's like, no, actually "the sith" don't need to be rehabilitated, and Sauron doesn't need to be rehabilitated: there are just evil, power hungry people out there.
While it’s got a good structure, it was a satirical piece. It was meant to be very symbolic. Dorothy did get played and it’s designed to show the ordinary people were being played and deserved better. It was an allegory about the gold system and the silver system of money and the “Villain” is all the powerful people in the land because they were playing the people. The two strongest witches represented the Great Britain and the United States, the Great wizard of Oz was supposed to be Wall Street bankers, Emerald City was that colour because the US dollar was green at the time. And the satire was savage for its time (like calling the King a coward, pushed around by foreign powers by making the character of the coward lion; and point out the narrative around tin as a precious metal is under decline and so are the most influential US families in Europe who got rich by owning tin mines, by making the character of the tin man who really can’t be helped…). And it was called the Wizard of Oz because gold is measured by ounces which has the symbol/abbreviation of “oz”. And how that’s weighted and priced ruined normal people’s lives with crazy inflations and deflations but there was no transparency around the gold/ silver to currency exchange. And this played a big role in European powers fighting for ownership of their colonies and contributed to the world wars.
Lots of people don't know this. People reading social politics into it and overthinking what is ultimately a nonsensical narrative in the story... overlook the reality that the book's symbolism was actually about monetary policy.
They contributed to the world wars but as we know, All Wars are bankers wars! You have an interesting view on this movie, but my spirit is telling me that your knowledge albeit indept and thorough, is nothing more than a " slick " interpretation of this film. 🎸❤️
Especially the waking up and seeing the same people in her dreams that are family friends and neighbors 😂 she went out into the world and discovered the machine and the systems that govern 😮from a child’s interpretation we get the wizard of oz (the son of God?) Gumar Oz Dubar wisdom strength and beauty 🤔
Hi ,I’d love to use one of your picture to be the face of my artwork project and you will be getting credit for this and you will totally get paid for it.
😂😂😂😂😂 I need now you to adapt the "You try to act so innocent like, 'Oh, I use to live in Africa with all the little birdies, and the little monkeys!' Part 😂😂😂
What if I told you...the book The Wizard of Oz is actually about, theoretical finance. The book was written in 1900 and the U.S federal reserve bank was created shortly after in 1913. During this period in America there was a whole conversation going on as to whether we should let a group of bankers control the U.S money supply. This was the environment they were in when The Wizard of Oz was written. The story is about following the yellow brick road to the Emerald City. The yellow brick road represents the gold standard. The emerald city, represents the U.S dollar, a.k.a, fiat currency. U.S dollars use to be backed by gold but when the federal reserve took over, they eventually dropped the gold standard and devalued everyone's money. We see this in the book. Everyone takes this gold path to the emerald city; which is suppose to be this massively wealthy place. But we realize that it is all just smoke and mirrors. The wizard is nothing but a con artist. The emerald city is nothing but a fraudulent world. In the original book the emerald city is not actually green. Whenever anyone enters the city, they are required by law to put on spectacles with green tinted glass. So whenever anyone looks around, they think they're surrounded by all this green and all this wealth but it is just their perception. It's all a trick! But it's even worse than that. The glasses are locked onto people's heads so they can never take them off. Here's a quote from the book, "Because if you did not wear spectacles the brightness of the Emerald City would blind you. Even those who live in the city must wear spectacles night and day. They are all locked on, for Oz so ordered it when the City was first built." There is no wealth in Emerald City. People just think they're wealthy because they are wearing these green glasses. Another clue this movie is about finance, is the shoes. As noted, in the original book, Dorothy's ruby shoes were actually silver. Once again, we're talking about silver and gold. So at the end of the story, Dorothy finds out that she had the power to return home to Kansas at any point by just clicking her heels together three times. This represents the American people not realizing that they can solve the problems of inflation at any point by using silver and gold. The name Oz is also the same as the abbreviation for "ounces". Which is the measurement used to weigh silver and gold. In the movie Wicked, the Wicked Witch of the West sings a song saying she will never come down. She is talking about, you guessed it, inflation. When the author was writing the book for Wicked, they created the name, "Elphaba" for the wicked witch. What you may not realize is Elphaba is based on the name of the original author, L. Frank Baum. Who was also an activist.
@@billielamier4706 Yeah, RUclips sucks. Even if you could copy it, if you tried to paste it under another comment for example, it would probably delete for some odd reason.
Correct, but the story is about the gold/silver standard. Dorothy is the average American asleep at the wheel, The wicked witch is green (paper money) and each character Dorothy meets along the way are different classes of people (farmers, military, politicians full of hot air) all looking up to this hollow facade (the wizard) who everyone just believes in because that’s just the way it is..the slippers are so powerful because they are real currency, and the ‘good’ witch knows this. To set everyone right, we need to drop fiat currency. It’s a genius story.
@ yup, follow the yellow brick road to the land of oz is literally gold ounces..the flying monkeys represent lawyers who defend the switch over to fiat currency and the poppies are representing getting people back to “sleep” and back to normal life before they get to Oz and uncover the truth.
No honey, it's the hidden person behind the curtain that controls all the evil in the world, everyone searches and tries to find out who is the man at the top? Who is the evil that tells all the bad people what to do. Average people work their way through their life trying to work it all out and finally, they get to the top of that tower of evil and pull back the curtain and finally find out who it is........... and then they are disappointed and don't care anymore....they carry on with their lives as they were before they found out who it was because admitting that its satan and its been satan all along means they have to believe in God and they don't want to, sont want to give their lives to Christ and change. It's so very sad. Give ur life to Christ before it's all too late and you just don't care anymore. Xxx
That is actually false. Glinda did not purposely use the house to kill Elphaba’s sister. It was the Wizard and Madam Morrible’s idea. They both planned to set a trap to capture Elphaba by killing her sister (Nessarose wicked witch of the east). Madam Morrible has the power to do anything so she decided to use a random house with a girl inside to attack Nessarose. The reason Glinda made Dorothy to the Emerald city was to get justice for Elphaba on the Wizard because at the very end the Wizard has no real power so Glinda wanted to expose the Wizard and give him a reason to leave Oz. Plus it was not Glinda’s intention to kill Elphaba, it was the Wizard that wanted Elphaba dead because Elphaba knew that the Wizard has no real power and not what he said he is. Elphaba knows the “Wizards” truth.
Yess I totally agree. But Elphaba isn’t dead she faked it in wicked and in the end the wizard dies and madame morbile is put in jail for using her weather powers to kill nessarose
That’s actually false. Wicked is fan fiction not written by the author who wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz so it is not cannon. Nothing that you mentioned happened in the original books. Fan fiction is not cannon because it’s written by a random person and not the original author.
“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and “The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” are not even from the same writer… so no thats not what happened on the first book.
They are both villains, the wicked witch for being an evil witch and Glenda for using Dorothy!!! But if Dorothy hadn't taken the yellow brick road, Scarecrow wouldn't have realized he already had a brain - the Cowardly Lion wouldn't have realized he was already courageous - the Tinman wouldn't have realized he already had a heart! Dorothy was the tool that took care of a lot of issues 😊
The author of this story is the prejudice evil one ! He really was the tricky one to use others to do his dirty deeds. Used to be my favorite book and movie but now it isn’t
Toto was the real Villian... because had he not gone in Almira's yard Dorothy would have never ran away and ended up in Oz to begin with... the dog was the problem 😂😂
Wicked witch was trying to kill the dog. Set scarecrow on fire and haunted Dorthy in her dreams. Cmon now, yall either reaching or done watched the Wicked movie.
There is no reaching you need to read the books the movies are based on which will show all of what this conspiracy man comes up with or stitches stories together
@@JuliusTurner-hm6ff well yeah she did all those things. Poor old hulk lady wanted her sister's slippers back after seeing Dorothy had inavertingly unalived her.
@@JuliusTurner-hm6ff And no one seems at all upset that either West or East is dead, which says something. In the movie, Glinda is the witch of the North, not the South. In the movie, we don't see whoever's in charge of the South. I don't think the shoes would have worked for Dorothy before she learns several things on her journey, so there's that. And yes, in the movie, it's a dream, and Dorothy is recovering from a concussion that has Uncle Henry say that they thought for a minute "she was going to leave us."
It's because she's the wise guide. She knows dorothy has to go through the journey of meeting the others and the wizard and more to grow stronger and to grow up a bit (which if it's all a dream is the point of the story) but I like to think Oz is canonically real despite the dream being used as a 'transportation' device (aka tornado)
This is true. As a trainee therapist, it’s interesting to note she has parallels with the psychologist, Carl Rogers, who didn’t see himself the expert but rather a guide. Quite pioneering at the time. Glinda is a metaphor for trusting oneself to be guided to good.
The first and most important thing to know/remember here is that Wicked is *not* canon to The Wizard of Oz books or the 1939 film, so any attempts to take things you see take place in Wicked *[the Broadway musical or film]* and apply them to the story of The Wizard of Oz is pointless because nothing would be factual/valid. For example, the silver magic slippers belonged to Elphaba and Nessa Rose’s mother and were given to Nessa Rose by her father in Wicked *only.* The silver magic slippers in The Wizard of Oz were merely shoes that belonged to The Wicked Witch of the East and no one else, not to mention that she enslaved the majority of the Munchkins in the East and forced them to work night and day for many years with no mercy, which brings me to the most significant thing in all of this. The Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz were, in fact, wicked as fuck and not misunderstood like they *[particularly Elphaba]* are in Wicked-don’t get it twisted, lol.
It’s all up to interpretation is how I see it. Cuz the original author wasn’t alive to see Wicked (books OR broadway show) so it’s up to others to continue the story for him. My example of this idea is that even though Akira Toriyama (author of Dragonball) passed away that doesn’t mean any way Toyotaro decides to continue Dragonball’s story is not canon. Ofc there’s people who also think Dragonball Super (which Toyotaro worked on a majority of) is not canon because he didn’t work on it aswell. So whether you believe Wicked is canon or not, it’s up to the interpretation of the audience.
Wow, just seeing this 8 minutes after it was posted and I see Dragon Ball and Toyotaro mentioned. But yeah, I kind of feel the same way, but at the end of the day, the original Oz and Dragon Ball story before the authors died will always be the true canon.
@@Lucas_inTheLIGHT The difference is, Toyotaro was hand picked and trained by Toriyama as his successor. As such, Toriyama implicitly gave Toyataro the same authorial power as himself. Super is canon, Wicked is not and never will be. Nor will any future expansion of the Oz stories be canon, or any Dragon Ball material that isn't written by Toyataro or his own successor, should he ever choose one.
@Madamefyness because that's the truth? Wicked was written nearly 100 years after the original oz books by a completely different, unrelated author. Its very good fanfiction, but fanfiction nonetheless. The plot of wicked is irrelevant and nonexistent in the wizard of oz film as well as the original books. It's fun to joke and pretend about wicked being canon, but it's not. In the original, there is no bullet train to the emerald city, there's no shiz university, the scarecrow and tin man are unrelated to each other or either of the witches, glinda and the wicked witch weren't secret best friends, and the wicked witch of the west was just evil and had no name. Thats a fact, sorry.
Glinda's actions make a lot more sense when you realize there were actually two good witches in the original book. The Witch of the North met Dorothy in Munchkin Land and told her about the Wizard, but it was the Witch of the South who explained the shoes could take her home. In the movie, they were combined into one character when they really probably shouldn't have been.
In the 60's, when I first watched the movie (with mom's pancakes & sausages IN THE LIVING ROOM), I wondered why there wasn't a witch of the south. Always wanted a couple of those monkeys to carry me to grammar school. It was a long walk.
Don’t forget Glinda called Dorothy ugly! Glinda- “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” Dorothy- “Oh, I’m not a witch at all! Witches are old and ugly” Glinda-(laughing) “Only bad witches are ugly” GIRL DID YOU NOT JUST ASK IF DOROTHY WAS A GOOD WITCH OR A BAD WITCH? 😂
@@AlP-wj2fyhey 👋🏾 it does make sense someone else said the same above and has 3k likes so please don't be a downer on others opinions, as it is hers ❤.
Actually, Dorothy's age is not mentioned in the books (or at least I don't remember, please correct me if I'm wrong), but one of the books written by the second author of the series implies that Dorothy stopped aging at 11, meaning that Dorothy would have been much younger than that when she went to Oz the first time.
It seems like she even threw some subtle shade at Dorothy, too. When Glinda first meets Dorothy, she asks her if she's a good witch or a bad witch. Then, a bit later on, Glinda says that only bad witches are ugly.
Hahaha! Yes! But really its a Girl living a sad life, longing t see the world, had to use her imagination to fill in the unknowns, good and bad. So when she dreams of this wonderful place, which is also dangerous & terrifying, she realizes how there's no place like home. No need to run away. She had to learn it on her own, like we all do when we grow up. We have to experience it ourselves. She knew this and the dream was the brain figuring it all out. 😊 And that's how our brains work. We work thru scenarios to make sense & figure out things. Now! who all wants to hear all abou the great depression?
In the sequel movie the poor girl got sent to a mental hospital where they shocked her brain so much, she ended up in an even more messed up version of Oz. @@PaulCoyJR
The film is actually about the financial world at that time with federal reserve being formed causing inflation. The word OZ is an abbreviation for ounces used to measure precious metals.
Actually, if you do your research, you'll find the Wicked Witch Of The West and the wizard are actually the real villains. Also Glinda is the Good Witch Of The North in some adaptations. You're right though in the fact that she's the witch of the south in the original novel
Oh wow, never realized that. Glinda was a str8 up opportunist,,,she put Dorothy thew all that unnecessary stress of wanting to get back home knowing all along she could of gotten back home easily by clicking her heels together smh. Just to think I just seen The Wizard Of Oz a couple of days ago and I hadn't seen that movie in over 10 years. Enjoyed it too!!
She had to go through lessons in her journey and she wasn’t in the physical realm, she astral projected and she could only go home when her body was ready to awaken.
@@jimsmith9744absolutely correct Jim and thank you for pointing that out 🙂 if Glenda had sent Dorothy home right away then Dorothy wouldn't have learned anything, and the story would have been over.
I dont think people realize wicked is not canon to the Wizard of OZ. As for who the evil one is, we are just ignoring what the witch did to Dorothy's friends in the movie. As Glenda she masterminded the death of two evil witches and a false wizard left. Ya thats the action of a good guy.
Uhhh, when you're EVIL, & intentionally do evil things to innocent people, you 100% get what you deserve. Besides, Glinda had nothing to do with the Witch of the East's death anyway.
I have one, small, argument. When Dorothy asked why Glinda didn’t tell her before, Glinda said “because you wouldn’t have believed me.” I think she sent her on the journey to prove a point.
@@its_ivanmars a bit true but at the same time she is not using Dorothy for bad because Dorothy is helping her kill the bad and good witches can’t kill purposely and also she is keeping Dorothy safe and helping her meet new friends and see the true meaning and power in things
If i showed up in a random place and just wanted to go home and some random person told me to click the shoes 3 times and chant something, it's worth a shot
That broad had just floated down to her in a damn bubble and she just watched a pair of legs roll up like a slap bracelet. After that, Dorothy would’ve given it a try FOR SURE. PLUS, if MY sister had just been killed and the ONLY thing left of her was her shoes, I’d want them too. Can’t blame ole girl for that.
Exactly! Now all these companies are buying up movies an series to where they can't air on tv the way they did seasonally anymore. No more Charlie Brown Halloween, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving or Charlie Brown Christmas smh
Read the book series “Dorothy must die” it has a bunch of twisted things and Glinda actually IS a villain along with Dorothy who came back to Oz, power hungry and became a DICTATOR. She and Glinda enslaved the munchkins.
You make the best reviews as always, whenever I’m looking for a review of a vacuum, upholstery cleaner, robot vac, Keurig etc, I always come to your page! Thank you for the in depth reviews 😊
The thing about the shoes is that Glinda in the film is a composite character who combines Glinda the Good Witch of the South with the Good Witch of the North who is one who informs Dorothy of the shoes power to send her home! Basically it seems suspicious in the film version cause Glinda plays the role of the Good Witch of the North in the film in addition to being the Good Witch of the South thus it seems like she's stringing Dorothy along!
I really felt for the so called "Wicked Witch of the West". She had just lost her sister and wanted the shoes for memory's sake. The shoes were hers by family. Yes, I came to this conclusion when I watched the film. Dorothy was just a convenient interloper. I've always loved Dorothy because she's a diva. Glenda was a liar and both her and the wizard were in cohoots to get rid of the witch in order to get the shoes for power. They had the power to travel across realms to any land. Yeah, the Wicked Witch just wanted the shoes so she could escape OZ. I would've been angry too!!!
Honestly this is a good point... This is why its good to go back and look at older movies from all angels... Majority of us were kids when we first seen this movie... It makes you think, is this how "they" programmed us... making us believe who the "good guys/girls" are ... Instead of looking at the movie from all angles... This shit feel like we all broke free of their mind control... and now we looking at everything with a side eye....
Just accept the data presented by the Oz movie. The Wicked Witch spends the entire film trying to kill people, or threatening to kill people, and even threatens to kill the dog. She is EVIL. Glinda says at the end that Dorothy needed to go on the journey to enable to get the shoes to work. She gave Dorothy a short hand version of what she needed to do to spare her the details. And the ONLY witch in the story who is actually shown HELPING people is Glinda, from the kind words of guidance she gives Dorothy, to saving her life from the poisoned poppies. Glinda is GOOD.
The Wizard was the evil one . The good witch didn't tell her to go kill her sister. She said go ask the wizard it was ANOTHER witch that told Dorothy about the shoes magic to get her home
1. Glinda or Galinda was ever evil. Yes, she was mean and full of herself, but not evil. 2. Dorothy didnt kill Nessarose, the wizard and madam morrible did (she can control the weather), to get back at elphaba for rejecting him and his views. As he said people come together when you give them a really good enemy. 3. If, you pay attention to the book, movie and stage play called Wicked the whole movie story line was planned out by none other than Scarecrow himself. Because Scarecrow was actually Elphaba or the Wicked Witch of the Wests boyfriend who she turned into a scarecrow to protect him from harm, because the wizards men tried to kill him by tying and pinning him to the stand in which the scarecrow in the wizard of oz movie was found. Theres a whole song about it in Wicked the stage play. Because killing him would have also been an attack on elphaba for rejecting the wizard. Believe it or not glinda was also in love with scarecrow whos name is actually feairo by the way and they almost were an item before he fell in love with elphaba and elphaba and glinda in the play are actually best friends. If, you pay attention to the play there is a part of a song where one of the villages says that elphabas soul is so, unclean that pure water can melt her and feairo gets mad, because he knows it's not true and looks at glinda going can you believe them? People will believe anything. And she covers for him to go get her a drink so, he can calm down and that leads up to him becoming scarecrow. But also, if, you watch the movie and go to the part where they are in the apple orchard and the witch is on top of the house before that when you look at the yellow brick road you dont see scarecrow with the others, but he reappears right before she appears on the roof lol. They had a lovers meeting to go over his plan. Which was brilliant by the way and if, you watch closely when she says how about a little fire scarecrow she never actually throws fire at him, but a little ways in front of his feet. She wasnt actually trying to set him on fire, she was just going along with the plan. And after dorothy "melts" her in the stage play and everyone thinks shes dead glinda and scarecrow actually go back to her tower and elphaba comes out of the trap door in which she had kept dorothy when she "captured" her and she hugs both of them and tells glinda to keep her secret and to take care of the animals (which was who she was fighting for anyway, because in their land animals used to be able to talk, but the wizard didnt want them to so, he was banning their speak, locking the in cages and not letting them teach, because some actually were teachers and preachers etc.), because now that she was "dead" and the "wizard" was gone the people would look her to now and after a sadden glinda leaves, scarecrow and elphaba share an embrace and a kiss and elphaba says what do we do now? Insinuating that this was all his plan from the start. And he says whatever we want to do, we can runaway together where no one will bother us again. At the beginning of the new Wicked movie glinda is portrayed as slightly sad, but also like she is hiding something while the munchkins are celebrating. She made dorothy walk around in the shoes and go to the wizard knowing that he would tell her to destory the wicked witch of the west "elphaba" as a ploy to get what he wanted even tho he had no idea how to actually send dorothy home lol. So, in conclusion is she evil no, did they all use dorothy absolutely!
Too right. And what about Rapunzel, why did it never occur to the stupid girl in the tower to cut off her own hair and climb down it to get out. Goldilocks was a trespasser and thief. Jack stole the golden goose and murdered the giant. The list is endless as to who actually was the baddie, no wonder the kids are weird these days.
"this days"? All of these stories have been around for centuries. And Rapunzel was conditioned to believe that the world outside was unsafe because her "mother" mentally and physically traumatized her into believing that since birth.... She has no way of knowing or believing anything else.
My take.. everything that glitters ain’t gold.. stay yo ass close to home especially if you’re surrounded by love.. and don’t trust ppl .. they’ll send yo ass down a yellow brick road for nothing.. when all you had to do was believe in yourself..
In the movie the characters of the Good Witch of the North and Glinda the Good Witch of the South are merged, in the book the Good Witch of the North welcomed Dorothy and gave her the slipers and Glinda show her how to use it at the end, also the Wicked Witch of the East is not related to the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wicked Witches used to enslave their sudbits of the North, South, esat , West, and the Good Witches fight them over their territories to freed the inhabitants and rule over them kindly, for instance The Good Witch of the North took the domains of Momby the former Wicked Witch of the North. At the end all are witches, modeled over feminist activists known by the author, not angels, elfs or fairies, just plain selfish witches, ones better than other.
Have you never read or seen wicked? The wicked witch of the west is related to the wicked witch of the east. They are sisters. Elphaba (the wicked witch of the west) always got in trouble as a child for not protecting her sister, Nessarose (the wicked witch of the east). Elphabas parents were very rude towards her because she was green and Nessarose wasn’t. What happened is that when the house fell on Nessarose, the “wicked”witch of the west was just trying to avenge her little sister. Also, completely off topic but the Tin Man in the wizard of oz was a munchkin named Boq who was dying, so Elphaba turned him into the Tin Man to save him.
This theory really does fit the Narrative of the Movie. My question, however, is where Dorothy's three Buddies come into it at? Scarecrow DEFINITELY knew something was up(when he straight up asks why Glenda didn't say anthing beforehand and she IGNORES him, that sinched it for me), Tinman abd Lion were more concerned with her safety than anything else...
I can't see the other comments lol sometimes RUclips does this glitch anyways I love this comment so much actually she was an actual teacher imagine having her as your teacher also unrelated but also a villain The actor that plays Freddie Kruger also a teacher love both of them
That was a fantastic part & she was amazing. Margaret Hamilton was on 36yo when she played the WW of the West. I absolutely love that movie. Lots of crazy stuff behind the scenes has come out over the years, but I still love it. I have read that kids were afraid of her in real person after she played that role.
How is it true when the Wicked witch was setting scarecrow on fire, trying to kill Toto and was sicking her evil monkeys on people? Stop this nonsense.
Yea clever but, there were actually 10 screen writers who worked on bringing Oz to the big screen. The story only loosely followed LFrank Baums original story line. That's actually pretty accurate because she's considered "good" but I think her hubris drives her to do good things not just for others but for her own personal gain. The only thing that throws everyone off is how pretty and bubbly she is. We think the wicked witch is the villain because of her appearance and approach when in fact she's just hurt and Glinda provoked the hell out of her...
We are not supposed to be so well informed in the back stage chaos that exsisted. Judy, you made Magic real! I apologize for the abuse you indored, no person deserves that. My fav childhood movie.. blessings on your spiritual freedom in the after world. 😮 Deep
This is why I prefer the books. Dorothy didn't even meet Glinda until MUCH later. The good witch of the North was a Munchkin that bestowed a seal of protection via a kiss on her forehead. Wicked is nothing but movie fan fiction.
This is false lol. Frank wrote several books explaining the witches and the real reason water even kills her is because water is pure and she’s very old and wicked. She dead in Franks works and they present another evil witch Mombai who comes along, who is I think the wicked witch of the south.
I saw a special one time & it revealed that during the making of this movie there was alot of fighting discrimination & deaths of cast members. They said many of the cast members were treated unfairly & poorly. Yet they needed these very people too show the diversity in this particular magical realm. ✨️
I would like to point out that Wicked is not associated with the original books or this movie. The Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West are not related in any way other than both being wicked witches. There are also two Good witches. The Good Witch of the North (who was never named by the original author) and Glinda the Good Witch of the South. The Good Witch of the North gives Dorothy the silver slippers, but she doesn't know much about them, and she tells Dorothy to go to the Wizard who she thinks should be able to help her get back home. Glinda knows the slippers have the power to take Dorothy back home, but she has no involvement in the story until after the Wicked Witch of the West is dead.
I come to youtube for the videos and end up reading comments on comments on comments for 3 hours all while getting into arguments that last days if not weeks or until someone else decides to put their 2 cents in...
Yup. The comment section was a genius idea. It keeps people entertained long after the video is watched and is sometimes more entertaining than the video.😂
It's not surprising that no one is aware that the wizard of oz writer,Baum, was writing an allegory related to money.... The word money has a particular meaning and in this allegory it was related to all of the symbolism, for example , The yellow brick road was representative of the gold standard..... Some of his other books were also allegories related to money...
Wicked, Wizard of Oz movie, and Wizard of Oz book are practically 3 different cannons. In the Book, the wicked witches of the east and west weren't related, and none of the witches really interacted with Dorothy until she entered their land. In the movie, Gilinda was a jersey not immedetly telling dorothy about the heels thing sure, but she had no control of Dorothy killing Th witch of the east. She didn't know the Wizard was worth the walk because she hadn't even met the man. And as the person in the video even said, the shoes completely changed colors. There so many difference between the three medias, You can't really connect them and say Gilinda is the vilian or didn't tell Dorothy about the train intentionally, cause the train wasn't in the movie but it was in wicked because ot two separate cannons. They don't connect.
Lol 😂 luv this! But seriously really makes me go huh 🤔🤣 I played Glenda in a play once , maybe now I know why I chose to play her & why they picked me 😂😂 Thank you seriously luv this 💕
I was gifted the VHS by my dad at seven years old and watched like it was a ritual as a kid growing up. All those years I would question what didn't make sense and the adults brushed it off. Now today my mother represents Glinda in my own life with her facade still being her pride & joy...Wow!
It’s crazy because I never liked this movie growing up. The feelings I get/ felt when I saw this just didn’t sit right with me and then finding out years later what happened to the girl who played Dorothy it jus broke my heart and it made sense why I didn’t like it but besides that I thought everything looked creepy and felt wrong watching it like there’s so many subliminal messages
They even have a munchkin hang himself . So they say. On set. Look it up!! I checked the scene where they say it happened an I definitely see something happening all the way in the background..
Oz stands for ounces. Yellow brick road=Gold. This is a book for bankers. There’s so much symbolism in this. It’s unbelievable. This is what they’ve done to our country. It’s all related to the way they have set up society. We have been massively abused.
Good try, Glinda didn't bring Dorothy there, although she was a bit of a bubble head. The witches of the East and West was terrorizing the munchkins, that's why they were so scared and thanked Dorothy ~ only the witches died, both by accident with the witch of the West trying to kill Dorothy and her friends. Also Dorothy apologized. A good conspiracy theory. lol
I believe the theory. Glinda didn't bring Dorothy to Oz but she certainly used her. She put the shoes on Dorothy perhaps to save her from the witch of the West, but why not tell Dorothy right away the shoes were magic and could send her home? Why make her walk the yellow road alone, knowing the witch of the West wanted those shoes and would do what she could do to get them back? Why send her to the wizard, whom she knew had no real power from the jump? Glinda may not have been evil, but she was a hell of an opportunist.
It’s not a conspiracy theory, it’s revisionist literature. Wicked tells the story where Elphaba does good, but frames the original thematically as almost propaganda produced by Oz.
She wasn’t trying to kill Dorothy and her friends she wanted her shoes back by any means necessary! They were her an heirloom of her family! If Dorothy has of given her the shoes then she wouldn’t have cared what happened to Dorothy or her friends…🤷🏽♀️ just my little theory 😉
@cs8297 Elphaba also wanted the shoes back, because she knew how dangerous of a weapon they could be. Because of the spell she put on them to help her sister to walk, as she blamed herself for her sister not being able to walk. Elphaba also knew Dorothy didn't know how to use them. She didnt want Dorothy to be hurt by them.
Her and her sister both enslaved people the munchkins rejoice that the witch is dead cuz she was terrorizing them with the power of the shoes and her sister wanted them and she terroized and used the monkeys and her army. So just giving her more power to continue her reign of terror seems irresponsible.
How does it make sense exactly when "Wicked" was written in 1995 (76 years after L. Frank Baum died)? Wicked is an imagined take on the original book series. I love the musical, don't get me wrong, and I like the story written by Gregory Maguire, too, which makes this story good enough to stand on its own without the need for "endorsement" in the form of a huge, loveable fairytale written some 100 years before. Actually, I'm not too fond of this trend of "Let's take the villain of this story and make them the real heroes", by showing their "childhood" origin story, and how they suffered many hardships to get to that point in the original fairytale. It completely downplays the real intention and protagonists of the story, and it may normalize criminals and terrorists irl, or at least, warp children's judgment about morality and "justified" crimes. P.S.- The Wicked Witch of the West didn't have a name in the original story. "Elphaba" in Wicked was the Author's honorary take on L. Frank Baum's name.
I agree, this mixes two different stories. The original Wizard of Oz has no connection other than the Wicked author taking the land and characters to create this sympathetic back story for the Wicked Witch.
It’s sometimes done badly, but the point of the type of story you’re talking about isn’t to make the villain the hero, it’s to show how they became the villain we know from whatever the original story was
@@greenbeantm1096 It's not exactly true. It's mainly to sympathize with her character. When you sympathize it can cloud your judgment. This is how actual villains are manipulating others. They appeal to your sense of compassion, morality, and empathy with these narratives. It works great for quite a lot of them, I'm afraid. "A tiger can't change its spots".
When you actually read the Wicked books, it already proves the Glinda is the wicked one. Elfaba is the good one. The whole point of the story is not everyone appears how they seem to look. I have loved this story cause in my life, Ive always felt like Elfaba. Different.
@StrawThatBends I agree with him. It's not being pissed just being accurate. Wicked is not original Oz and just does the same tired troupe of villainizing the good and glorifying the evil. I'm tired of it, too, frankly.

Actually it was that and to save on hiring more actors.

That is all kinds of ironic... I feel bad for both of them.

The REAL villain was the director of the movie. He was a piece of work. He treated Dorthy like trash. She was on uppers and downers throughout the entire film. If ya get a chance look all that up. A sad story really.
You mean treated Judy ?
@ yes, horrible.
It was the entire production and multiple cast members that were treated bad too
Because in that time frame kids were supposed to be seen not heard and expected to act a very specific way.
She also shades Dorothy by asking if she’s a good witch or a bad witch saying that only bad witches are ugly 😂
Oh my gosh, I never thought of this, lol!

They are all locked on, for Oz so ordered it when the City was first built."
There is no wealth in Emerald City.
Oh my….this makes so much sense….I would love to share this perspective but it won’t copy😢

Xxx

The voice over and music in the background!!!! Hahahahaha

Hysterical.... logical, but your presentation is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
For example, the silver magic slippers belonged to Elphaba and Nessa Rose’s mother and were given to Nessa Rose by her father in Wicked *only.*
The silver magic slippers in The Wizard of Oz were merely shoes that belonged to The Wicked Witch of the East and no one else, not to mention that she enslaved the majority of the Munchkins in the East and forced them to work night and day for many years with no mercy, which brings me to the most significant thing in all of this.
The Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz were, in fact, wicked as fuck and not misunderstood like they *[particularly Elphaba]* are in Wicked-don’t get it twisted, lol.
👏🏼 so tired of people conflating the two separate stories.
Exactly 💯 %
Wicked is fanfiction btw. The original books and the wizard of oz film have nothing to do with wicked
Why can't it? You don't know what you say if factual!
Correct. The writer had this idea to create a story around the wicked witch of the west and her turn to the dark side.
But I believe it more.
@@Nathaniel-r8l doesnt make it canon
Glinda's actions make a lot more sense when you realize there were actually two good witches in the original book. The Witch of the North met Dorothy in Munchkin Land and told her about the Wizard, but it was the Witch of the South who explained the shoes could take her home. In the movie, they were combined into one character when they really probably shouldn't have been.
That’s true they actually did the on “The Wiz” with Micheal Jackson
In the 60's, when I first watched the movie (with mom's pancakes & sausages IN THE LIVING ROOM), I wondered why there wasn't a witch of the south.

She really sent a little 12 year old girl(it's implied in the book Dorothy is 12 years old)to take down her rival 😂 she got no chill
@patriciomejia1114 it's still implied she's no older than 12, 11 or 10 may have been her age tho, either way she's still a child
I am 43 years old and I have seen that a lot of our childhood movies have hidden meanings
It’s really creepy ❤
It seems like she even threw some subtle shade at Dorothy, too. When Glinda first meets Dorothy, she asks her if she's a good witch or a bad witch. Then, a bit later on, Glinda says that only bad witches are ugly.

The thing about the shoes is that Glinda in the film is a composite character who combines Glinda the Good Witch of the South with the Good Witch of the North who is one who informs Dorothy of the shoes power to send her home! Glenda was a liar and both her and the wizard were in cohoots to get rid of the witch in order to get the shoes for power. They had the power to travel across realms to any land.
The media has the same power making the oppressed bad and the oppressors good
This video is misleading the true intent of the orig story. But, it’s kind of funny too.
Excellent point! I just saw Wicked and am taking friends again after Christmas! Loved it!

Yep. We are doing Wizard of Oz as our school play this year. And we have two different good witches 😊.
Yes! Don’t know why they made these changes 🤔

The Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West are not related in any way other than both being wicked witches. There are also two Good witches.
I knew that chick was Nice-Sty...!!!!😂😂
Let's remember that it's just a dream, so there isn't a "real" villain.
She came down in a bubble bro... grow up bro 😂😂
Shit tell that to the witch demon who chases me with a plank a nail in it. If she hits me with it I die. (In my dream)
Tell that to the chick in a wheel chair who got her shoes stolen
When you actually read the Wicked books, it already proves the Glinda is the wicked one. Elfaba is the good one. The whole point of the story is not everyone appears how they seem to look. I have loved this story cause in my life, Ive always felt like Elfaba. Different.
Yeah... That's altering history BS. Essentially fanfiction for this new soft generation.
@@jordanmc9015damn who pissed in your cereal?
@StrawThatBends I agree with him. It's not being pissed just being accurate. Wicked is not original Oz and just does the same tired troupe of villainizing the good and glorifying the evil. I'm tired of it, too, frankly.
@@juanangelmontemayor7889yeah I agree the only thing that's close to that kind of rewriting that's acceptable is what they're doing with Cobra Kai
@KuntryBlumpkin528 ill have to check it out. My brother loves it, but I'm a skeptic of sequels of long dead IPs (I'm looking at you Disney Star Wars...)
I've been saying that since I first saw the movie way back in 1984. Just like darth Vader & the empire are the good guys, mumra from thunder cats... the good guy. He's the last human on earth fighting feline aliens that invaded our planet. It's all about perspective.
