I can imagine it being pretty cool thanks to the always stellar art direction with Frozenbyte, but that's the thing when you base large parts of your concept on what turns out to be a fad. 3D TVs weren't around that much back then in the first place and these days they are completely obsolete. So barely any people have or will ever experience that.

I hope If they make a Trine 4 they go back to the original 2D style. The first two games were amazing so I don’t know why they thought making these changes would be a good idea. It's no secret that this game is buggy and unfinished. They run out of money. Also I used contoller, my right analog stick was not working during the whole game. No, contoller wasn't the problem, I tried more than one. The game is just broken.
It's not only the fact that the game got shorter and easier the problem. The game becomes like this because of an abuse of the same type of riddle wich generally involve using the weight system and pushing shit. The problem comes from the root of the gameplay, the base is that you can complete the game alone and if you are with allies, they should go through too. That's why, for making that thing easier to take place, every riddle becomes the same because overall the mages can just cheese his way out by pushing everything with boxes and the thief can grapin. Here the knight becomes completly useless, because all his tools to go through are a charge and a stomp wich can be reproduce in some sort by the wizard with his box. The story is terrible aswell, it's in the right mood of the series and gives hint about the lore of Trine, but it's unfinished and the game end on a cliffhanger that Trine 4 don't even bother following. + after the academy the quality drastically decreases. The book level that appear really nice at first in esthetics becomes just a way to hide the unfinished state of the game with drawings. It has loading zones has transition to stage to another where the other levels were fluid and if you touch them you can't go back wich forced you to restart the entire level if you want to get the Trineangle you missed. The sidequest/missions are embarrassing some even last only 20 seconds without effort, not to mention THE HORRIBLE LEVEL the cake is a lie where each of the 3 characters SAID THE GOD DAMN LINE ! GG YOU MADE THE MOST FORCED PORTAL REFERENCES EVER. Nothing in that level was good, nothing. The level before the final (and only) boss was garbage, no clever way to hide the trineangle, some platform randomly placed for no reason and except the deer nothing worth it. The final boss god dammit what the hell is that, yeah a plant dragon appears out of nowhere and you're on a platform in the middle of nowhere fighting him by waiting he throws god damn bombs at you. How the hell did they get out of the platform btw ? And the final point what i think is the main problem, The 3d poses alot of problem, because it's not that well handle even tho they tried to make the game with that idea in head which was a mistake. Because what was genius in Trine 1 and 2 was the way the riddle never really appear like there was riddle placing here to make you do a riddle. They were variety bound to place you were, making plants grows, messing up plumbery, the first appearance of the Trine 2 dragons who were an illusion you have to dismiss but the way it appears made him look like a boss and that was the riddle, that was brilliant. In Trine 3 everything appears TOO ARTIFICIAL, there's also sound bugs or maybe lack of soundtrack so sometimes you have 1 music playing for 2 hours no matter the situation. All of this ruined the immersion, and even if the graphics, the esthetic and the level are gorgeously beautiful, they just appear as a way to cover what a mess is this game. They tried and failed miserably, to the point it almost killed the licence, to make this game good, but it just look good rather than being it.
@@Xikuryas I guess I'm a bit late, but I want to say that I can't agree more! Especially on that lame Portal reference. They also eradicated leveling which made it even worse. The whole game is just a straightforward run.

I can’t speak for keyboard and mouse but this game is awful with a controller as well. I don’t know what they were thinking with this one but Trine 3 should’ve been scrapped.
I recommend you try to replay it, I've also had a similar opinion to you until I retried it and it was really fun, imo better than 4 (and in gameplay more fun then 1, but too short)

I played this for a few minutes and hated it just fck this game because one the controls two no skill tree and three 3D plain it self
