Good to see you again. I have been studying for 8 years, sometimes with a teacher, sometimes self-study. It has been worth the time, effort, and money for me. I now have Chinese friends at the senior citizen center. We do Bible study twice a week and singing once a week. The live Chinese is very helpful even though I don't understand a lot of what is said. I get so much support from my friends because they know I try hard and enjoy the Chinese culture.

Chris, thanks for putting this video together. I think the background is cool too !! I have been self-studying for nearly 3 years (aw!!, didn't realise so long) and haven't got far 😭but it is soo so worth learning and even my Nephew enjoys and started to learn. Hopefully he will be accepted in Cambridge next year and might consider taking it up. The only thing I would suggest to anyone wanting to learn. DO IT but get a teacher, that's if you can't put in hours and hours all day.

I came across your channel in late 2014 when I had just started learning. I remember your method of transcribing BBC Chinese podcasts.
I took classes in college and then self studied. I had a hard time sticking with a self directed path. I later discovered I work better in a classroom setting for systematized learning. I’m not too far along now, about HSK 4ish but there are people that make much better progress in that same time frame. I love it though. Has changed my life for the better.
Nintendo games are lots of fun in Chinese.

I watch your livestreams on Wechat Channels to sell your courses. Any way to hear your fluency and flow is a treat.

Great to see you back on RUclips. I follow you on 小红书. Very interested in your point on learning Chinese for business. I feel that learning Chinese to HSK 4/5 is probably enough and I use it primarily for small talk/ building relationships. You can always find a professional translator to assist. I think a language that may grow in importance is Vietnamese. However, there are many Vietnamese who are learning English. Maybe the sad truth is that English is all anyone really needs.

Thanks for following me! There's always a time when the conversation gets to more detailed discussions and you either need to know Chinese or have an interpreter or the other person needs to have good English

You're back! Disappeared for a few years. I was hoping to see content about bringing up a kid bilingual.
