    If you're planning on building boxes in OR to send to WA, Bend is a great option to take a zero or double zero. Whole Foods, Safeway, WinCo, Trader Joes, Grocery Outlet, and various small health food stores. You can probably do all of your WA boxes from there with no worries at all. (I am guessing you already know that lol, but just for anyone seeing this)

    A huge thank you for all that information. Living with celiac, dreaming of a thru hike and not knowing where to begin my "food planning", that video is a game changer for me. (sorry for my english, I am french canadian)

    Great video and thank you so much for sharing the spreadsheet and your references. Appreciated 🙂 I did smile though at your comment in Electrolyte section about “don’t try new foods/electrolytes on the trail”, because whilst I totally agree with this as I’m a runner, I’ll be coming from the UK so ALL the foods you showed are new to me & will be different (from past experience visiting the US)😂 But I’m looking forward to it next year ❤🎉🇺🇸

    As a future PCT hiker currently planning my resupply, this video, and spreadsheet have been so helpful- thank you! Now that you've made it through, I'd love to hear your review of this strategy and what you'd do again vs what you'd change!

    To complete back to back 30ish miles and film like you have done is awesome. Your whioe PCT series is amazing. Your long Tehachapi to Kennedy Meadows section was inspiring. Thank you Arielle, you rock!

    Another fantastic resource on RUclips for doing a diet-specific resupply is Mary's Outdoor Adventures (Mary Mansfield) - she is vegan and did the whole PCT keeping vegan, and made a really REALLY comprehensive video documenting the town options and where she chose to resupply with boxes, and why.

    Wow ! What a fantastic job you have done. You will be the first to complete the CDT without damaging your health permanently. I have been following your hike,and you are half way done. There is definitely a difference in your energy levels and mental attitude to other thru hikers at the same number of miles. Now I understand why. Thanks.

    A tip that I collected along the way for items in their original package is to poke a tiny hole (needle), let the air out, and then tape over the hole. Helps pack down smaller. Just don't do it with items that will crush, like chips. Thanks, Arielle, for nerding out with us. I love planning and prepping for adventures!

    Arielle, your spreadsheet is amazing; love the detail! It it SUPER valuable! You totally rock! I did a section hike a few weeks ago, WA section J, with a couple of my kids. It, too, was amazing! We met lots of nobo and sobo thru hikers and were totally inspired. At minimum I want to do more sections of the PCT and I'm sure I'll use your incredible spreadsheet! Thanks!

      Thank you so much! And that’s great to know. I’m so grateful for how much easier it’s gotten over the years to find stuff out and about that’s gluten free. Especially baked goods haha I’ll always have a weakness for a good brownie 🤤

  • @katieoutdoors

    Did the towns where you planned to buy food meet your expectations/needs? Are there any more where you could have bought food than the ones you initially planned? Didn't see you address this specifically in your Q&As so thought I would ask! I have celiac and am planning a pct thru myself
    Also, do you regret the number of boxes you sent? Did you like or dislike eating the same food the whole trail?

  • @Coolmonkeyvr142
    @Coolmonkeyvr142 2 года назад +1

    Love this!!! Few questions…
    1. Where did you purchase the bulk dried food ingredients?
    2. I actually found you through a doTERRA video, will you post what your oils kit looks like that you are bringing?
    3. Why did you decide not to bring the sweet potatoes out of curiousity?
    Thanks!

    • @ArielleShipe
      @ArielleShipe  2 года назад +1

      1. North bay trading co for the freeze dried stuff 2. Yes! Next weeks video will go over everything that I’m bringing so you will see in that one and then I’ll share throughout the trail how i use everything. Love my oils!! 3. I got real with myself about what I crave when I’m doing big days. I love eating healthy but i needed something that packs more of a caloric punch and sounds yummy when it’s super hot out. It can be hard to think of how different you feel eating from home than out on the trail 🤪

    Would you be comfortable sharing your approximate budget for all the food/supps in this video that you're putting in boxes? The Athletic Greens alone is a pretty penny lol

    • @ArielleShipe
      @ArielleShipe  2 года назад

      I’m not sure exactly but probably about $600 a month (ish) for food overall (including my budget for food in town). Living in Colorado it’s pretty comparable to what I spend at home but definitely could be done more frugally than me haha
