Bojan, what's your opinion on rulers in general? I prefer the metal kind, but I understand the issues and why some prefer wooden ones. I think plastic ones are rubbish though.

That is the essence of democracy. the people΄s (demo) rule (cracy). If the people themselves are in charge, whom are they going to rule? If you rule only yourself essencially you are not ruling over anybody. In fact, that is how the church operates. Think of it. Each bishopate rules itself, supervised by its bishop, him supervised by the metropolitan, him supervised by the archbishop or patriarch. The supervisor has no authority over the bishopate, instead the bishopate rules itself, and the supervisor intervenes only to keep thingS in check, these interventions properly regulated and provisioned by a set of strict rules (like a constitution). How does the church rule itself? By the councils. The bishops, that is the officials of the laity and the clergy come together and decide together, by the rule of unanimity. Their decisions are then presented to the people, who accept or reject. What makes the function of the church different from a typical democracy is the concept of God΄s oversee, that makes sure that His body will not faulter. A bishopate may falter, a metropolis may falter, a patriarchate may faulter, a part of the people may faulter, but not the people themselves.

Two of the worlds greatest military machines, that is Japan's and Germany's at the start of World War II, were crushed into total surrender by a technologically and military inferior group of countries. I believe this was no accident but the result of good leaders and their people realizing their weakness and then asking God in humility for His help to endure while themselves striving to overcome their shortcomings. I also agree that God's Holy Church thrives when it does not become entangled with the state. Jesus, our Lord and Savior, shunned all worldly power and has had more influence on human history than all the kings, dictators, presidents, chairmen, chiefs, presidents and prime ministers that ever existed put together. As soon as people of God get entangled with the politics of this world they get dragged down to the depths of man's depraved lust for pleasure, power, and material riches. A life time of great wealth, influence, and power is worth nothing compared to giving up an eternity of being in God's Kingdom and we all, myself included, too often forget that fact.

We should stand against racism, bigotry, poverty, hate-mongering, violence, the mechanisms of death, distruction of the environment (and more).
Politics change, and politicians come and go, but a smart bishop said once: No matter how hard we try, The Church will survive in spite of what we do.

Stavroforos if it’s soft plastic, then I would agree, but hard plastic is fine and usually much cheaper.
Reminds me of how the Jews wanted a king and it didn't make anything better and it just got worse over time.

You're right Bojan, power is compromising. You should look into Anarchism. No rulers, no ruled.
